ISLAMABAD — A 72-year-old American development worker who was kidnapped in Pakistan by al-Qaeda more than two years ago appealed to President Barack Obama in a video released Thursday to negotiate his release, saying he feels “totally abandoned and forgotten.”
The video of Warren Weinstein was the first since two videos released in September 2012. Weinstein, the country director in Pakistan for J.E. Austin Associates, a U.S.-based firm that advises a range of Pakistani business and government sectors, was abducted from his house in the eastern city of Lahore in August 2011.
In the video sent Thursday to reporters in Pakistan including The Associated Press, Weinstein called on the U.S. government to negotiate his release.
“Nine years ago I came to Pakistan to help my government, and I did so at a time when most Americans would not come here, and now when I need my government it seems that I have been totally abandoned and forgotten,” Weinstein said during the 13-minute video. “And so I again appeal to you to instruct your appropriate officials to negotiate my release.” source – News Max
A House Divided
Please call your Senators and Congressmen and tell them NO on attacking Syria. We have no business going in there, and it will only strengthen and empower the Al-Qaeda Syrian rebels. Call your Congressman and send a STRONG MESSAGE to President Obama that you are not standing with him.
From WashPost: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she’s not sure whether a majority of House Democrats will support the use of force in Syria.
“I don’t know,” Pelosi said in an interview with Time magazine. “I think it would be important to get a majority in the Congress. But I don’t know if it’s important how you would break it down. These issues are not really partisan.”
Despite Pelosi’s comments, it has become clear that a strong majority of House Republicans are likely to oppose the resolution, meaning it would need strong support among Democrats to pass in the GOP-controlled House.
So far, The Fix’s whip count has 22 House Democrats opposing military action and 23 leaning toward opposing it. Combined, that means about one-quarter of House Democrats are likely to vote “no,” at this point. source – WashPost
The rebels that Obama are so supportive of are totally connected to Al-Qaeda and are now killing Syrian Christians. So if we go in and attack Syria, in support of these rebels, we are helping to foster and spread persecution of Christians in Syria.
Isn’t it nice to see your American tax dollars hard at work? Please call your Senators and Congressmen and let them know how you feel.
BEIRUT — Al-Qaeda-linked rebels launched an assault Wednesday on a regime-held Christian village in the densely populated west of Syria and new clashes erupted near the capital, Damascus — part of a brutal battle of attrition each side believes it can win despite more than two years of deadlock.
As the world focused on possible U.S. military action against Syria, rebels commandeered a mountaintop hotel in the village of Maaloula and shelled the community below, said a nun, speaking by phone from a convent in the village. She spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
The attack came hours before a Senate panel voted to give President Barack Obama authority to use military force against Syria — the first time lawmakers have voted to allow military action since the October 2002 votes authorizing the invasion of Iraq.
The measure, which cleared the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on a 10-7 vote, was altered at the last minute to support “decisive changes to the present military balance of power” in Syria’s civil war, though it ruled out U.S. combat operations on the ground. It was expected to reach the full Senate floor next week.
The Syria conflict, which began with a popular uprising in March 2011, has been stalemated, and it’s not clear if U.S. military strikes over the regime’s alleged chemical weapons use would change that. Obama has said he seeks limited pinpoint action to deter future chemical attacks, not regime change.
Obama has been lobbying for international and domestic support for punishing President Bashar Assad’s regime, which the U.S. says fired rockets loaded with the nerve agent sarin on rebel-held areas near Damascus before dawn on Aug. 21, killing hundreds of civilians.
So far, however, he has won little international backing for action. Among major allies, only France has offered publicly to join the U.S. in a strike. source – Boston Herald
Israel prepared to defend their borders
“We are operating on all fronts, in the north and south, in order to protect the citizens of Israel from these attacks,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday in the aftermath of a Katyusha rocket salvo fired at northwestern Israel.
“We are using a variety of measures – of both defense and prevention – and we are operating in a responsible manner. Our policy is clear: to protect and also to prevent.
“Anyone who hurts us, and anyone who tries to hurt us, must know that we will hit him.”
At least four rockets were fired from Lebanon Thursday afternoon, with at least one confirmed as having struck in the area of Nahariya.
Several residents have been treated for shock.
IDF Radio reported that bomb shelters in the northern city of Akko (Acre) have been opened for public use, and the IDF is urging residents of the north to remain close to shelters. The IDF has denied earlier reports from Arabic media that it responded to the rockets with artillery fire.
Lebanese media has been reporting that at least 2 of the rockets were fired from the Ras al-Ain neighborhood of the city of Tyre.
The IDF spokesperson’s unit has said it believes the rockets were fired by “global jihad” terrorists – another term for Al Qaeda-linked or inspired Sunni terroristsת as opposed to the Shia Hezbollah terrorist group.
One rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system, between Akko and Nahariya, the IDF said. Three others struck in “open areas.” Earlier this month, four IDF soldiers suffered light to moderate injuries on the Israel-Lebanon border, when a bomb was set off as they passed.
That attack was later claimed by Hezbollah.

RELATED STORY: Syrian Rebels Revealed To Be Part Of Al-Qaeda
Sending both he and Michelle’s “warmest greetings” to Muslims around the globe, Barack Obama has also gifted almost an additional quarter billion dollars to the Muslims in Syria, as posted by the Borneo Post (of Malaysia) on Aug. 10, 2013 and also in a Presidential Press Office release of Aug. 7, 2013.
With the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan comes the Feast of the Fast-Breaking, correctly known in the Islamic world as Eid al-Fitr, the Obamas announced via their press secretary both their best regards to the followers of Mohammed as well as adding an additional $195,000,000 to the already $1,000,000,000 the American taxpayers have already sent to the war-torn West Asian nation.
Not A Victim Of The Sequestration…
In part, as released by the White House:
To help the many Syrians in need this Eid al-Fitr, the United States is providing an additional $195 million in food aid and other humanitarian aid, bringing our humanitarian contribution to the Syrian people to over $1 billion since the crisis began.
Not done yet, the Obamas went on to insinuate that Islam’s Eid al-Fatr is the equivalent to Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July:
For millions of Americans, Eid is part of a great tapestry of America’s many traditions, and I wish all Muslims a blessed and joyful celebration.
Obama’s Muddled Message…
It was unclear if Obama has authorized the pile of cash to go to the regime of President Bashar Hafez al-Assad or to al-Qaeda allied rebels Obama has publically supported. Despite Obama specifically citing the suffering of Syria’s Muslim civilians, no mention of the Christians who constitute 10 percent of Syria’s population.

Dreams from al-Qaeda
Is it narcissism, is it insanity, or is it just because he knows that the people who support him are so eager to believe anything he says that truth is no longer even necessary even part of the time? Whatever the case, “Bold Face Liar” Barry Soetoro continues his reign unhindered by factual assertions.
From NRO: In his first press conference in four months, President Obama assured reporters that al-Qaeda terrorists “are less likely to be able to carry out spectacular homeland attacks like 9/11.”
The president’s statement comes in the midst of concerns about the group’s resurgence, which earlier this week prompted the closure of American embassies throughout the Middle East. Non-essential personnel were evacuated earlier today from the American consulate in Lahore, Pakistan.
The president also reiterated that while “core al-Qaeda is on its heels, has been decimated,” it has “metastasized” into regional groups that threaten the United States on a smaller scale than the original terror organization. source – NRO
WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — U.S. intelligence officials are dealing with the most credible terrorist threat in years as 19 diplomatic posts in the Middle East and Africa remain closed through this upcoming Saturday.
CBS News reports that a large-scale attack may be imminent as al-Qaeda terrorists in the Arabian Peninsula already have their orders and could be in place for execution of the alleged plot. Juan Zarate, a CBS News security analyst, says this recent plot is similar to one from 2010 in which several European sites were targeted.
“People were worried about Mumbai-style attacks coming from the al-Qaeda core,” Zarate said, adding, “It never materialized but officials were worried that they actually had operatives in place. And, that’s a great concern here.”
The State Department said 19 diplomatic posts will remain closed through Saturday “out of an abundance of caution.” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the decision to keep the embassies and consulates closed is “not an indication of a new threat.”
Diplomatic facilities will remain closed through Saturday in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, among other countries.
In recent days, U.S. officials have said they have received significant and detailed intelligence suggesting a possible attack, with some clues pointing to the al-Qaeda terror network. The State Department said the potential for terrorism was particularly acute in the Middle East and North Africa, with a possible attack occurring on or coming from the Arabian Peninsula.
“The threat was specific as to how enormous it was going to be and also that certain dates were given,” Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., who chairs a House panel on counterterrorism and intelligence, told ABC on Sunday.
King said he believes al-Qaeda “is in many ways stronger than it was before 9/11 because it has mutated and it’s spread in dramatically different locations.” The terror network’s Yemen branch, known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, “is the most deadly of all the al-Qaeda affiliates,” King said.
Zarate, the former Deputy National Security Adviser to President George W. Bush, concurred with King’s assessment.
“The problem is you’ve had the rise of the al-Qaeda affiliates, groups in Yemen, North Africa, East Africa,” Zarate said. “Those groups have taken up the strategic and operational mantle for al-Qaeda and the group in Yemen has been the most dangerous because they want to hit the United States.”
Zarate also warned of the resurfacing of Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, the terror group’s top bomb maker, who was thought to have been killed in a drone strike last year.
“He’s innovative. You’ve seen in the last two plots that have come from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula that have targeted the United States the best innovation we’ve seen in terms of bomb making yet,” Zarate said. “You have techniques perhaps like surgically inserted bombs at play in this plot.”
