Last Minute Drama As Senator Jeff Flake Advances Full Senate Vote On Brett Kavanaugh But Pending FBI Investigation

Sen. Jeff Flake just said "I'm simply stating the discussion that we had between us all is that I would hope and I think we had some agreement before that the Democrats who have been -- I think -- justifiably uncomfortable moving ahead, could publicly, in an effort to bring this country together, say that we would feel better.... I'm not expecting them to vote yes... but not to complain that an FBI investigation has not occurred. This is what I'm trying to do. This country is being ripped apart here. We've got to make sure that we do due diligence."

The Democrats who serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee decided to walk out and not be present when it came time to vote at 1:30PM EST this afternoon on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court

The Brett Kavanaugh nomination and the recent fiery Senate hearings show quite clearly how divided a place that Washington has become, with a divide so deep one cannot begin to image what it might take to heal it.

Outgoing Senator Jeff Flake provided last-minute drama by asking for an FBI investigation of the claims of Christine Blasey Ford against Brett Kavanaugh. The motion did advance the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the full Senate next week, taking it out of the purview of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

FROM CNN: Sen. Jeff Flake just said he would vote to move Judge Brett Kavanaugh out of the Judiciary Committee and to the floor of the Senate as long as the main vote would be delayed by up to one week to allow for an FBI investigation.

Senator Flake had this to say regarding his decision:

I’m simply stating the discussion that we had between us all is that I would hope and I think we had some agreement before that the Democrats who have been — I think — justifiably uncomfortable moving ahead, could publicly, in an effort to bring this country together, say that we would feel better…. I’m not expecting them to vote yes… but not to complain that an FBI investigation has not occurred. This is what I’m trying to do. This country is being ripped apart here. We’ve got to make sure that we do due diligence. READ MORE
