The Elf On The Shelf Is Preparing Your Child To Live In A Future Police State, Professor Warns

The Elf on the Shelf is “a capillary form of power that normalizes the voluntary surrender of privacy, teaching young people to blindly accept panoptic surveillance and” [deep breath] “reify hegemonic power.”

For some, the Elf on the Shelf doll, with its doe-eyed gaze and cherubic face, has become a whimsical holiday tradition — one that helpfully reminds children to stay out of trouble in the lead-up to Christmas

For others — like, say, digital technology professor Laura Pinto — the Elf on the Shelf is “a capillary form of power that normalizes the voluntary surrender of privacy, teaching young people to blindly accept panoptic surveillance and” [deep breath] “reify hegemonic power.” I mean, that’s obvious, right?

The latter perspective is detailed in “Who’s the Boss,” a paper published by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, in which Pinto and co-author Selena Nemorin argue that the popular seasonal doll is preparing a generation of children to uncritically accept “increasingly intrusive (albeit whimsically packaged) modes of surveillance.”

Before you burst out laughing, know that Pinto comes across as extremely friendly and not at all paranoid on the phone. She’s also completely serious.

“The Elf on the Shelf” is both a book and a doll. The former is a soft pixie scout elf that parents are instructed to hide around the house. The accompanying book, written in rhyme, tells a Christmas-themed story that explains how Santa Claus keeps tabs on who is naughty and who is nice.”

The Elf on the Shelf®: A Christmas Tradition Broadcast Spot

The book describes elves hiding in children’s homes each day during the holidays to monitor their behavior before returning to the North Pole each night with a report for “the boss.”

Because we live in a world grappling with corporate smartphone surveillance, behavior management apps in the classroom and private communication interceptions by various governments, Pinto —  a digital technology professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology — sees the Elf on the Shelf dolls as one development among many threatening our collective definition of privacy.

If she’s right, in all likelihood she’s fighting a losing battle. The Elf on the Shelf book sold over 6 million copies and joined the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade last year, according to the Daily Mail.

“I don’t think the elf is a conspiracy and I realize we’re talking about a toy,” Pinto told The Post. “It sounds humorous, but we argue that if a kid is okay with this bureaucratic elf spying on them in their home, it normalizes the idea of surveillance and in the future restrictions on our privacy might be more easily accepted.”

Until the introduction of Elf on the Shelf, Santa’s mythological helpers had always been relegated to the toy workshop, Pinto said. After the story and toy were introduced by Chanda Bell, a onetime Atlanta reading teacher, the traditional narrative changed to include the hiding, surveillance and back-and-forth travel, Pinto said.

“As evidenced by the millions of books and dolls sold,” the Toronto Star writes, “the story has become a cultural phenomenon, with parents littering their social media feeds with photos of the elf in strange places.”

Facebook, in fact, is how Pinto said she originally became aware of the doll. Last December, she began to see her Facebook friends who have kids posting Elf on the Shelf photos.

The more she read about the doll and the rules that accompany it, the more she began to feel like the game that resonated with the purpose of the infamous panopticon, Jeremy Bentham’s 18th Century design for a model prison (a central tower in a circular structure, surrounded by cells that made it impossible for prisoners to know if they were being watched).

She writes:

Elf on the Shelf presents a unique (and prescriptive) form of play that blurs the distinction between play time and real life. Children who participate in play with The Elf on the Shelf doll have to contend with rules at all times during the day: they may not touch the doll, and they must accept that the doll watches them at all times with the purpose of reporting to Santa Claus. This is different from more conventional play with dolls, where children create play-worlds born of their imagination, moving dolls and determining interactions with other people and other dolls. Rather, the hands-off “play” demanded by the elf is limited to finding (but not touching!) The Elf on the Shelf every morning, and acquiescing to surveillance during waking hours under the elf’s watchful eye. The Elf on the Shelf controls all parameters of play, who can do and touch what, and ultimately attempts to dictate the child’s behavior outside of time used for play.

“The whole thing with panopticonism under the Jeremy Bentham structure,” Pinto said, “is that you never quite knew if you were being watched or not and that forced you into behaving in a certain way. The elf is the same way.”

Pinto said she’s not the first person to be troubled by Elf on the Shelf’s surveilling. She’s said parents routinely contact her to say they changed the rules of the game after it made their families uneasy. And many kids, she said, often intuitively feel like spying and being a tattletale is wrong.

“A mom e-mailed me and told me that the first day they read the elf book and put the elf out, her daughter woke up crying because she was being watched by the elf,” Pinto recounted. “They changed the game so it wouldn’t scare the child.”

Emma Waverman, a blogger with Today’s Parent, told the Star that the idea of the elf watching someone all the time is “creepy.”

“It makes the motivation to behave something that’s external,” she told the paper. “If I’m not around or if the elf is not around, do they act crazy?”

Translated into academia-speak, Pinto and Nemorin make a similar point in Who’s the Boss?

“What is troubling,” they write, “is what The Elf on the Shelf represents and normalizes: anecdotal evidence reveals that children perform an identity that is not only for caretakers, but for an external authority (The Elf on the Shelf), similar to the dynamic between citizen and authority in the context of the surveillance state.” source

After Trump Was Smuggled Off Air Force One In A Catering Truck, Gulf States Now Accept That An ‘Obliterated’ Iran Controls The Strait Of Hormuz

The Catering Truck Escape Of President Trump Exposes How An Iran Declared ‘Decimated And Obliterated’ Remains Dangerous And In Control Of Hormuz Despite Months Of American Bombing

America was told that Iran had been “decimated” and “obliterated,” but the truth of the matter is that when President Trump visited Turkey last month, credible threats from Iran forced the Secret Service to extract the president and smuggle him out hidden inside a catering truck, and flown to safety on an alternate Air Force One. As you let that sink in, ask yourself, what does that tell you? It tells me that we have been lied to about the Iran War from start to finish. How do you reconcile the endless boasting and bragging from the Department of War on how America “decimated” Iran with the mental picture of Trump and Hegseth hiding in a catering truck because Iran made some threats? The photo at the top of this article shows you the actual container that Trump and Hegseth were hidden in. This is beyond shameful and unacceptable, and as American patriots, we cannot, and must not, abide this deception any longer.

“The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.” Proverbs 21:31 (KJB)

Faced with what American officials reportedly considered a credible Iranian assassination threat, Trump did exactly what the president of the United States should have done: he followed the security plan designed to keep him alive. The scandal is not that Trump got into the catering truck. The scandal is that America was repeatedly told Iran had been “decimated” and “obliterated,” while the people protecting the president privately believed Tehran still possessed the reach, intelligence and operational capability to threaten his life in a NATO country. That’s the bombshell hiding underneath the sensational headline. According to a report published by the New York Post, President Trump publicly boarded the familiar blue-and-white Air Force One following the NATO summit in Ankara on July 8. Television cameras recorded the presidential departure, reporters boarded the plane, White House personnel took their seats, and everything appeared normal. But it was all a decoy.

On the opposite side of the aircraft, Trump and several aides reportedly entered an elevated airport catering container. The container was lowered onto a truck, driven across the tarmac and raised to the door of a smaller Air Force C-32A military aircraft. Trump secretly boarded that plane while reporters and even some White House staff departed Turkey believing the president was flying with them aboard Air Force One. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth was also aboard the secret flight, reportedly boarding separately to preserve the illusion of a routine military departure.

The operation was triggered by what a United States official described as a credible Iranian threat against Trump’s life. Israel had reportedly warned Washington of a possible Iranian assassination plot. The White House did not subsequently deny that the clandestine transfer occurred, instead saying that every available security measure was being employed to protect the president. Now, no responsible person should criticize him for following the security instructions of the Secret Service and the military. Presidents do not prove courage by unnecessarily exposing themselves to assassination. But Americans have every right to ask why, to demand why the private threat assessment differed so dramatically from the public victory narrative. This is absolutely a scandal that needs to be addressed.

Iran Was Bombed Into Rubble, But It Was Not Neutralized

The United States and Israel unquestionably inflicted catastrophic physical damage upon Iran. An April 1 Department of War fact sheet claimed that American forces had struck more than 12,300 targets, flown more than 13,000 combat missions and damaged or destroyed more than 155 Iranian vessels. Command centers, IRGC headquarters, intelligence facilities, air defenses, ballistic-missile sites, weapons-production facilities, communications networks and Iranian naval assets were hammered by the most technologically advanced military force on the planet.

Iran could not match the United States in the air. It could not match the United States at sea. It could not prevent American bombers and missiles from destroying enormous portions of its conventional military infrastructure. But destroying thousands of targets is not the same thing as winning a war.

A war is won when the enemy can no longer impose his will, threaten your interests or compel you to alter your behavior. Judged by that standard, Iran was in some respects devastated, but it was not defeated. It was damaged, but it was not disarmed. It was battered, but it was never neutralized. Iran absorbed the punishment, kept its regime alive and retained the weapons that mattered most: geography, asymmetrical warfare, assassination capabilities, mines, missiles, drones, regional proxies and control over the narrow passage through which a major portion of the world’s energy supply must travel. Washington won the bombing campaign. Tehran may be winning everything that came after it.

The Strait Of Hormuz Tells The Real Story

On July 28, the White House published remarks in which President Trump flatly declared, “Iran doesn’t control the Strait. We control the Strait.” Less than two weeks later, the Wall Street Journal published a report beneath this astonishing headline:

“Gulf States Accept a New Normal in Hormuz: Iran Is in Control.”

That isn’t  a minor discrepancy, t is the difference between the victory Americans were promised and the strategic reality now confronting the Middle East. Persian Gulf energy producers are reportedly concluding that Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz could become permanent. They do not like it, and they do not necessarily recognize Tehran’s claims as legitimate. But they increasingly view accommodation with Iran as preferable to returning to a war that would bring additional Iranian missiles and drones crashing into their ports, pipelines, refineries and desalination plants.

An emerging agreement under discussion would reportedly place inbound shipping through Hormuz under Iranian oversight while Oman supervised outbound traffic. The agreement has not been finalized, and Washington remains opposed to allowing Iran to restrict international navigation. Nevertheless, Gulf governments are reportedly willing to contemplate formal Iranian oversight because the alternative may be another destructive regional war.

Think about what that means. The United States possesses aircraft carriers, submarines, stealth bombers, cruise missiles, surveillance satellites and enough firepower to demolish Iranian military installations repeatedly. Yet the Gulf states are concluding that all that American military power still cannot guarantee the uninterrupted movement of their oil and natural gas. Iran does not need to defeat the United States Navy ship for ship. It only needs to make commercial navigation dangerous enough, insurance expensive enough and Gulf infrastructure vulnerable enough that terrified governments begin negotiating for Tehran’s permission to conduct business. That is how an apparently weaker nation converts geography into strategic power.

America can control which ships reach Iran through its naval blockade. Iran can control whether ships belonging to the Gulf states move safely through the waterway. Washington possesses overwhelming firepower, but Tehran possesses the ability to create chaos at the precise point where the global economy can least afford it. We told you back in July of 2024, after Trump got his warning shot to his right ear, that God has put him in power as judgment on America. And so it is.

The Catering Truck Exposed The Truth

The catering truck operation now takes on tremendous symbolic importance. Trump and Hegseth spent months speaking as though Iran had been reduced to strategic irrelevance. But when intelligence officials warned that Iran might be targeting the president, the victory speeches stopped and the professionals went to work. Air Force One became a decoy. Reporters and White House personnel unknowingly became part of the deception. The president and his War Secretary disappeared onto another aircraft.

American intelligence and presidential security officials believed the threat was sufficiently credible to justify one of the most extraordinary presidential extraction operations in modern history. The government did not behave as though Iran had been obliterated, it behaved as though Iran remained organized, dangerous and capable of striking the president of the United States beyond its own borders. That is the reality Americans were not shown while administration officials were celebrating overwhelming victory. The public was given the number of targets destroyed. It was not given an honest assessment of the enemy’s remaining ability to retaliate. Tactical achievements were packaged and sold as strategic victory, while Iran’s most dangerous capabilities survived beneath the rubble.

Iran Lost The Battles But May Have Won The War

Iran never needed to defeat the United States conventionally, as such a victory was always impossible. But as the old saying goes, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat”. Iran’s realistic objectives were to survive, preserve the regime, impose unbearable economic costs, frighten the Gulf monarchies, keep the Strait of Hormuz under threat and force Washington toward negotiations without surrendering Tehran’s regional power. Measured against those objectives, Iran has performed far better than the American public was led to believe.

If the final settlement allows the Iranian regime to survive, gives Tehran formal authority over inbound shipping, produces sanctions relief and ends American military operations without eliminating Iran’s power to threaten its neighbors, then Iran will have achieved a genuine strategic victory despite suffering catastrophic battlefield losses. It will have lost its ships, missile batteries, command centers and military installations while gaining international recognition of the leverage it always wanted over Hormuz. That’s not Iran winning because it was militarily stronger. It is Iran winning because it endured longer, accepted greater pain and convinced its enemies that continuing the war would cost more than tolerating the new Iranian order.

In conclusion, we strongly urge you to disbelieve anything and everything told to us by the Trump administration going forward. They have proven to be patholoigical liars, incapable of truth, and only a complete defeat in the midterms will come close to stopping them. The Iran War is all but over now, America has been roundly humiliated, but worse than that, our enemies like Russia, China and North Korea now see how we can be defeated under Trump. And make no mistake, they’re coming.

THE PROPHECY NEWS PODCAST: Trump’s ‘Golden Age’ Illusion Comes Crashing Down As Iran War Slips Away Amid Growing Homeland Revolt Gaining Traction

SHARE NOW THE END BEGINS:

From The Burning Strait Of Hormuz To The Corridors Of Washington, Donald Trump Is Fighting An Emboldened Iran And An Intelligence Establishment In Revolt Against His Presidency

What we are witnessing is the accelerating breakdown of the postwar world order in real time. A nuclear-threshold Iran is holding the world’s most important oil passage hostage, an American president is running out of peaceful exits from a war he expected to dominate, and the national-security establishment is warning that the constitutional system itself is being dismantled. The global order is convulsing, the nations are preparing for what comes next, and every fresh headline is another alarm bell announcing that the old world is passing away and something darker, more centralized and far more dangerous is rushing in to replace it.

“As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:” Ezekiel 20:33 (KJB)

On this episode of the Prophecy News Podcast, the Strait of Hormuz has become the choke chain around the neck of the global economy, and Iran is pulling it tighter. President Trump believed Tehran was preparing to reopen the waterway and hand him the victory he desperately needed, but the Revolutionary Guards had other plans. They are demanding sanctions relief, the release of frozen assets, compensation for war damage, an end to the American naval blockade and the withdrawal of United States forces from the region. Iran is no longer bargaining over shipping lanes—it is attempting to dictate the terms of the Middle East from the mouth of the Persian Gulf while the world watches oil, commerce and military power hang in the balance.

At the same moment Trump is being challenged by Iran abroad, the former intelligence and national-security establishment is declaring war on him at home. Hundreds of former officials now accuse the president of dismantling America’s institutional guardrails, demanding personal loyalty and concentrating power around himself. Trump calls them the Deep State; they call him an emerging autocrat. The masks are off, the knives are out, and Washington has become a battlefield where unelected intelligence operatives, political loyalists and executive power are fighting for control of the machinery of the United States government. Today we show you America exposed, vunerable, and weaker than she’s ever been.

The Children Of The Glory Fellowship Orphanage In Kenya Sleep On Cardboard And Now Operation Africa! Wants To Give Them New Cots And Clean Blankets

Published

SHARE NOW THE END BEGINS:

Operation Africa! Has Been Given A New Mission To Provide 44 Mattresses And 44 Blankets For The 84 Children At Glory Fellowship Orphanage Sleeping On Cardboard Floors

The children at Glory Fellowship Orphanage in Kenya are sleeping shoulder-to-shoulder on pieces of cardboard spread across a bare concrete floor. There are no mattresses beneath them and no warm blankets covering them on top. That is an actual photo at the top of this article, showing you how these precious children actually go to sleep every night. What if that was your child, would you be happy with that? I say we do something about it.

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27 (KJB)

Through Operation Africa!, the Lord has already allowed us to send more than 1,100 King James Bibles to Kenya, provide them with life-saving medicine, and complete a water well and tanker program at the orphanage. Now God has placed another urgent need directly before us: 84 children need 44 mattresses and 44 blankets. This is not a request for luxury. We are talking about the most basic human necessities, like a comfortable place to lay their heads and a clean blanket to keep them warm through the night. These children should not have to spend another night sleeping on cardboard when, together, we have the power to change their situation. We can’t fix all of Africa, but Lord willing, we can fix this.

The Bible does not tell us merely to feel sorry for the fatherless; it tells us to visit them in their affliction. That means seeing the need, stepping into the need and doing something about it. Through Operation Africa!, God has brought these children into our lives and given us an opportunity to put our faith into action. Let’s get every one of these 84 children off the floor, put a clean mattress beneath them and place a warm blanket over top of them. The children will sleep two-to-a-bed. The cots are $45 each, the blankets are $30 each, and we need 44 of both. Altogether that comes to $3,300, a very reasonable price to pay to put all 84 children into the type of sleeping arrangements you would want for your precious children. All of us together should easily be able to do this, pray for this outreach, and come help us!!

If God has prospered you, please take a moment to click on the donate button to help us in this overwhelmingly urgent task of providing the children of Glory Fellowship Orphange with medicine and clean drinking water. We need your prayers, we need your generous financial support, and we need you to stand with us in the closing days of the Church Age. Thank you so very much, TO THE FIGHT!!!
