U.S. officials are confident Iran shot down a Ukrainian jetliner in the hours after the Iranian missile attack on U.S. targets earlier this week, CBS News has learned.

Today we are confirming what we already suspected to be true, that Iran shot down the Ukrainian jetliner with 176 souls on board, sending all of them to their eternal destiny in the blink of an eye. The only question it would seem is did Iran know they were shooting down a civilian plane, or did they fire on it mistakenly? Before you answer that, answer this. Those 176 souls had no idea they were flying into eternity, if you were to die tonight, like they did that night, would you go to Heaven or Hell?

As I write this, I am thinking of Anna Duffy-Schenck, Glenda Foor and Elwood Franz, all three who were dear friends and longtime NTEB readers. I am thinking of my childhood friend Dan Colfax died last summer of a sudden heart attack on his birthday. My brother Bob, both my parents, and the list goes on and on and on. Every time of think of any of them, it makes me wonder when my day will be. But I did something 29 years ago that tells me now, while I am living, where I will go when I do. I trusted Jesus Christ as my Saviour, who died, was buried and rose again on the third day, and paid the penalty for my sins. Because He lives, I will live forever with Him in Heaven. How about you? U.S. officials confident Iran shot down passenger jet

FROM CBS NEWS: The Ukrainian International Airlines plane crashed Wednesday soon after takeoff from Tehran’s airport, killing all 176 people on board.

U.S. intelligence picked up signals of a radar being turned on, sources told CBS News. U.S. satellites also detected two surface-to-air missile launches, which happened shortly before the Ukrainian jetliner exploded, CBS News was told.

Federal officials were briefed on the intelligence Thursday, CBS News transportation Kris Van Cleave reports. A source who was in the briefing said it appears missile components were found near the crash site. The plane was believed to have been mistakenly targeted.

Iranians call U.S. conclusion not true

The head of Iran’s civil aviation authority has said the U.S. conclusion is simply not true, CBS News senior foreign correspondent Elizabeth Palmer reports from Tehran. A website affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard called the U.S. intelligence a conspiracy cooked up by Iran’s enemies, Palmer reports. READ MORE

BLOODBATH: Shakeup At Department Of Homeland Security As Trump Pivots To Show Sympathetic Response On Murder Of Alex Pretti In Minneapolis

President Trump is backpedaling furiously to stop the bleeding over at the Department of Homeland Security after recent Minneapolis street killings

The Trump administration is scrambling in the aftermath of the Minneapolis killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, shot by Border Patrol agents during what’s being described as part of Operation Metro Surge. As more video and witness reporting comes out, it has undercut key elements of the early federal narrative, and now the White House is trying to tamp down the fire with personnel moves and softer rhetoric. Trump is in the hot seat, rightly so, and he knows it.

“Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.” Isaiah 1:10 (KJB)

So we get the headlines: Border czar Tom Homan dispatched, Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino reassigned, and even reports of DHS restricting Bovino’s social media access—all the usual “optics management” that Washington does when a story won’t die. But here’s the problem: you can’t PR your way out of a moral collapse. The Trump administration is filled with cosplay poseurs like Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, Dan Bongino (who has failed out), and Kristi Noem who should be removed as quickly as possible. These are drastically unqualified people who are building incompetent departments stocked with poorly-trained people. Properly-trained officers would never have shot and killed those two people.

As I have said many times over the years, I think both ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter are domestic terror organizations, and if that makes you mad, too bad. But as an American who stands on the rule of law, shooting protesters dead in the streets is a bad look, a really bad look, and that has to stop. God forbid we ever normalize that type of behavior as a means of conflict resolution, for if we do, we are done as a nation. Third world countries execute their protestors in the streets, not us.

So Trump realizing that with multiple corpses on his hands, he needs to turn this thing around as quickly as possible. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino was demoted and is leaving Minnesota. Tom Homan is taking over, reporting directly to Trump. Kristi Noem spent two hours in the Oval Office; her job status is unclear. Trump called Governor Tim Walz and said they’re on “the same wavelength.” A partial government shutdown looms Friday with reports saying that House Republicans can’t pass another DHS funding bill. Trump would do well to go watch the Reagan movie from last year, and learn a little something about how the office of the president should be conducted. I really miss Reagan.
