Canada and Malta announced Wednesday they will recognize the state of Palestine in September, joining France and the United Kingdom in stepping up pressure to end the nearly 80-year Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Canada and Malta to recognize Palestinian state, joining France and Britain and led by Macron

FROM NPR: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made the announcement after a Cabinet meeting. Christopher Cutajar, the permanent secretary at Malta’s Foreign Ministry, made his country’s announcement earlier at the U.N. General Assembly’s meeting on a two-state solution to the conflict which was extended to a third day because of the high number of countries wanting to speak. Cutajar said Malta has long supported self-determination for the Palestinian people, and “as responsible actors, we have a duty to work to translate the concept of a two-state solution from theory into practice.”

“It is for this reason that the government of Malta has taken the principled decision to formally recognize the state of Palestine at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly in September,” he said.

Carney said Canada will also make its announcement at the annual gathering of world leaders which starts Sept. 23. He said the intention is predicated on the Palestinian Authority “holding general elections in 2026 in which Hamas can play no part, and to demilitarize the Palestinian state.” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made those promises in a June 10 letter and it’s unclear what more Carney is seeking.

Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela earlier announced the decision by his country, a former British colony, to recognize a Palestinian state on Facebook, saying it is part of the nation’s efforts “for a lasting peace in the Middle East.” The Mediterranean island nation and European Union member will join more than 145 countries, including over a dozen European nations, in recognizing the state of Palestine.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced ahead of this week’s meeting that his country will recognize the state of Palestine at the annual gathering of world leaders at the 193-member General Assembly which starts Sept. 23.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday that Britain would recognize the state of Palestine before September’s meeting, but would refrain if Israel agrees to a ceasefire and long-term peace process in the next eight weeks.

France and Britain are the biggest Western powers and, with Canada, three members of the Group of Seven major industrialized nations have now made such a pledge. Israel opposes a two-state solution and is boycotting the meeting along with its closest ally, the United States.

High-level representatives at the U.N. conference on Tuesday urged Israel to commit to a Palestinian state and gave “unwavering support” to a two-state solution, and they urged all countries that haven’t recognized the state of Palestine to do so quickly.

The seven-page “New York Declaration” sets out a phased plan to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict and the ongoing war in Gaza. The plan would culminate with an independent, demilitarized Palestine living side by side peacefully with Israel, and their eventual integration into the wider Mideast region. READ MORE

Canada follows France and UK with plan to recognize Palestinian state

Prime Minister Mark Carney has said Canada plans to recognise a Palestinian state in September, becoming the third G7 nation to make such an announcement in recent days. Carney said the move depends on democratic reforms, including the Palestinian Authority holding elections next year without Hamas. His remarks come a day after the UK announced it would recognise a Palestinian state in September unless Israel agreed to a ceasefire and other conditions and a week after France unveiled a similar plan. Israel’s foreign ministry rejected Canada’s announcement, calling it “a reward for Hamas”. Most countries – 147 of the UN’s 193 member states – formally recognize a Palestinian state.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte filed a defamation lawsuit in the U.S. on Wednesday against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, centered on her claim that France’s first lady is male.

It is not all that often that events that play out in the world of conspiracy theory intersect with events that play out in the ‘real world’ (whatever that is anymore) but, hold onto your hats, kiddies, this week we have not one but two intersecting events tantalizingly before us. The first one is that it’s looking like sitting president Donald Trump is going to have former president Barack Obama arrested on charges of ‘sedition and treason’. I will believe that when I see it. The second is that Emmanuel Macron is suing antisemitic podcast Candace Owens for her relentless claims that his wife Brigitte is really a man.

Candace Owens could have had a good career as a podcaster, instead she has chosen to wallow in the deepest mire by repeating and reporting stories that just aren’t true. Now we shall see, in a court of law, just how much she really believes what she says, and just how much of what she says she can prove. Speaking of Emmanuel Macron, someone please tell him that if he would like to sue us in a court of law for saying he is the biblical man of sin, we would love the chance to do that.

FROM REUTERS: The Macrons said in a lawsuit filed in Delaware Superior Court that Owens has waged a lie-filled “campaign of global humiliation” and “relentless bullying” to promote her podcast and expand her “frenzied” fan base. The Macrons said the lies included that Brigitte Macron, 52, was born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, the actual name of her older brother.

“Every time the Macrons leave their home, they do so knowing that countless people have heard, and many believe, these vile fabrications,” the complaint said. “It is invasive, dehumanizing, and deeply unjust.”

Owens did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment. Macron’s office declined comment. The 22-count complaint seeks an unspecified amount of compensatory and punitive damages. Wednesday’s lawsuit is a rare case of a world leader suing for defamation. U.S. President Donald Trump has filed multiple defamation lawsuits, including against the publisher of The Wall Street Journal last week.

To prevail in U.S. defamation cases, public figures like the Macrons and Trump must show defendants engaged in “actual malice,” meaning they knew what they published was false or had reckless disregard for its truth. READ MORE

Emmanuel Macron of France and Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia are working on a proposal to disarm Hamas terrorists, paving the way for its demobilization, and create a state of Palestine

The official title of the upcoming event at the United Nations in June is ‘High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution’. Wow, that’s a mouthful, but it’s gets chewier. The two people co-chairing this end times event are none other than Emmanuel Macron of France and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. Together these men will use all their considerable power and influence to will a state of Palestine into existence. In the meantime, these same two people have a revolutionary plan for Hamas, turn it into a political party and give them real power. And the hits just keep coming, that’s the memo.

Now bin Salman is looking to spend some of that capital with his good buddy Emmanuel Macron, as they together decide the fate of Hamas and Gaza and the state of Palestine. France, Saudis seek to disarm Hamas, keep it as political entity

FROM THE JERUSALEM POST: Saudi officials have reportedly been in contact with Hamas leadership as part of the efforts, the sources stated, adding that it is unclear if France has also been in direct contact, especially as the European Union recognizes Hamas as a terror organization.

According to the sources, allowing Hamas to “retain a degree of political power would make it more likely to accept disarming,” and the objective of the talks is to transform Hamas into a “purely political entity that can still play some role in future Palestinian governance.”

For 77 years, the unresolved conflict has been on the agenda of the General Assembly.

Reports have also indicated that there have been growing strains between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macron over France’s attempts to get more countries to recognize a Palestinian state.

The United Nations conference in New York, where this recognition is likely to occur, is being co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that Israel’s easing of humanitarian aid access to Gaza is “totally insufficient… Immediate and massive aid is needed.”

Leaders of Britain, France, and Canada stated on Monday that they oppose Israel’s ongoing military presence in Gaza and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and that they may take action. Hamas welcomed the statement, “rejecting the policy of siege and starvation pursued by the occupation government against our people in the Gaza Strip, and the Zionist plans aimed at genocide and displacement.”

Earlier in May, Macron had said that Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy in Gaza, where half a million people are allegedly facing starvation, was shameful and that Europeans should consider increasing sanctions. READ MORE
