Chaplain Marty has devoted his life to ministry behinds bars, and it’s our honor to be asked to assist him in the work God has called him to do at the Macon County Jail

Marty Watkins is very involved in the community in many aspects which include at the Salvation Army teaching karate lessons, various service groups, Macon County Ethics Commission, buying shoes for children in need, leading prayer and now serving as Chaplain of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department. He has also served as a corrections officer and Macon County auxiliary deputy. Chaplain Marty wrote to us the other day, wondering if we could supply their entire jail with Bibles. I told him we sure could.

“Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12 (KJB)

His email was straight to the point, saying “We are the local jail in our City. We have services on Wednesday and Sundays for the inmates. We have approximately 300 inmates. We are requesting free Bibles. Thank you!” And just like that, the Macon County Jail in Decatur joins the dozens of other detention facilities that have written to us asking for Bibles when no one else would help them. Christian, I hope you realize that’s an honor and a privilege to be used of the Lord in this way. His 300 Bibles will be packed up and shipped out at the beginning of next week.

Every time I write one of these articles, I get the desire to hop in my car and drive to some of these facilities, and meet some of these amazing and inspiring Christian soldiers on the front lines, and minister along side them. If you remember that at the beginning of this year, we sent 500 Bibles to the Saint Johns County Jail here in Saint Augustine, I have plans to have lunch with the chaplain there to discuss on-site ministry opportunities. This amazing work we are all doing, the thousands of us here at NTEB, is only possible because of your prayers and your generous support.
