Gone from the cutting-edge bank: Tellers

When Wells Fargo opened its first high-tech branch three years ago in the District’s NoMa neighborhood, it did away with desks and replaced traditional counters with large touch-screen ATMs. Also gone from its new location: tellers.

Instead, the 1,000-square-foot branch has a handful of tablet-toting employees to help customers navigate technology to deposit checks, apply for loans or open savings accounts.

The number of banks tellers in the region has dropped by nearly half in the past 10 years, from 10,980 in 2005 to 5,990 in 2015, outpacing a 17 percent drop nationally, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall employment in the Washington region rose 7.3 percent in the same period.

Bank of America ATM with Teller Assist:

Median annual pay for tellers, meanwhile, has risen 35 percent, to $32,250 as tellers are increasingly required to be well-versed in technology. A recent report by Citigroup estimates that an additional 30 percent of U.S. banking jobs could be eliminated by 2025 as financial firms shutter branches and invest more heavily in technology.

“There has been a tremendous change in the mix of bank employees, with a much greater reliance on tech workers,” said Bert Ely, a banking industry consultant in Alexandria. “Banks are cutting a lot of so-called back-office processing jobs — and that is something that will continue.”

Experts say the trend is likely to be magnified in the Washington area, where an influx of young professionals and tech-savvy customers has ushered in a number of high-tech branches that require few employees. Recent bank mergers and branch closings also have contributed to shrinkage in the pool of jobs.

“Traffic in branches is down dramatically,” said Ronald D. Paul, chief executive of Bethesda-based Eagle Bancorp, the region’s largest community bank. “You just don’t need that many branches anymore.”

As a result, the company has closed less-frequented branches and moving others into smaller spaces. It also is adding more high-tech workers, including computer programmers and commercial deposit officers who can help troubleshoot technology, to its ranks.

The number of bank branches in the Washington region has been steadily dropping in recent years. Last year, the area had 1,697 branches, 84 fewer than it did in 2010, according to data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

“It was the ATM that started this spiral 25 or 30 years ago,” said Stephen Fuller, an economist and senior adviser at George Mason University’s Center for Regional Analysis. “We’ve just about replaced the need to have people in those spaces.”

Indeed, nearly four in 10 Americans have not visited a bank or credit union branch in at least six months, according to a survey by Bankrate.com, a New York-based personal-finance information company. When customers do stop by the bank, it is generally for financial consultations or to open accounts, not routine transactions, the survey found.

“The bank as it is today is becoming more interactional and less transactional,” said David M. Glaser, a vice president at District-based National Capital Bank. “When people come in, it’s with a more complex question or to open an account. If they just need to deposit a check — well, they can do that at the ATM.”

At PNC, which has done away with tellers at a number of area branches, new hires are as likely to come from a tech company as from another bank, said Todd Barnhart, head of branch distribution.

“The way we think about recruiting has changed pretty significantly,” he said. “Five or 10 years ago, we might have looked at employees at the bank down the street. “Today we’re looking at people from the Apple store, AT&T store and other tech-centric retailers.”

The company’s “innovation branch” in Tenleytown, for example, has six employees, all of whom are trained to help customers with everything from deposits to loan applications. “We’re not building branches with teller lines but with places where customers and employees can have meaningful conversations,” he said.

Instead of having separate tellers and mortgage officers, “it’s one job, one person,” Barnhart said, adding that roughly half of the bank’s deposits now come through its mobile app or ATMs.

Among Americans with smartphones, 52 percent used mobile banking in 2014, according to a Federal Reserve survey. The vast majority of users — 94 percent — use mobile apps to check their account balances, while 61 percent use them to transfer money between their accounts and 51 percent to deposit checks. The median frequency of use was five times a month.

Meanwhile, national bank employment has been falling an average of 2 percent a year since the recession, according to the Citigroup report.

“The future of branches in banking is about focusing on advisory and consultation rather than transactions,” according to the Citigroup report. “Branches and associated staff costs make up about 65 percent of the total retail cost base of a larger bank and a lot of these costs can be removed via automation.” source

8 States To Ban Gas-Powered Cars As Rush Towards UN Agenda 2030 Comes Into View Forcing Our Global Society Into An End Times Dystopia

8 states are planning to BAN the sale of gas-powered cars entirely – after Biden unveiled ambitious plans to phase them to comply with UN Agenda 2030

We saw our very first Tesla Cyber Truck in the wild yesterday, as we were pulling out of our local Buc-ee’s after filling up our gas-powered Jeep Wrangler with low-priced fuel. If your state doesn’t have a Buc-ee’s, you are absolutely missing out, but I digress. We spotted the Tesla Cyber Truck turning at the light and coming towards us, and it was at that moment it was again confirmed to me, for perhaps the thousandth time, we are living in the last days and watching the coming dystopia rising with frightening speed.

“And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.” Genesis 49:1 (KJB)

The Tesla truck looks a lot like what they imagined vehicles in the Tribulation would look like in movies such as A Thief In The Night and A Distant Thunder. That is to say an amateur design on a low budget, that’s the first thought I got when I saw it, and it made me silently chuckle. The second thought that hit me was that it looks a whole lot like the type of vehicle that, when they come to haul off believers in Jesus to the concentration camps, it will be a vehicle that looks a whole lot like a Tesla Cyber Truck. It wasn’t funny at that point, as you might imagine. If the Lord tarries, we will soon find ourselves living in a dystopia where gas-powered anything is outlawed, meat is gone, personal privacy a thing of the past, and all the rest. As you read this, 8 states are preparing to outlaw gas-powered cars, with many more to follow. Texas and Florida will be the last two hold outs.

Educate yourself on the UN Agenda 2030 mandate, because you will soon be living under it. Now would be a good time to remind the Lord of the Rapture.

Gas-powered vehicles will soon be outlawed as America complies with UN Agenda 2030

FROM THE DAILY MAIL UK: At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade – and others are considering joining them. Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation.

The rule, which was first adopted by California, means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards. Americans will not be forced to take their gas-powered cars off the road, however, and will still be able to buy used and secondhand gas vehicles. These states have gone further than the latest federal legislation announced last week, where the Biden administration released new rules to gradually phase out gas cars by 2032.

The new federal legislation requires automakers to reduce the tailpipe emissions of new vehicles by around 50 percent from model year 2026 to 2032.

In order to achieve this, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is targeting 35 percent to 56 percent of vehicles needing to be EVs by 2032, and 13 percent to 36 percent needing to be plug-in hybrids by that date.

It was initially proposed that two thirds of all cars sold by 2030 would need to be EVs, but the brakes were put on that plan last week, giving a concession to carmakers and giving them more ways to comply. But carmakers will eventually stop making full gas-powered successors to the beloved muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s under Biden’s new edict. According to personal finance site Money, California was the first state to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II rule, which will put a complete ban to new sales of gas-powered cars by 2035.

Plans in the state, which is run by governor Gavin Newsom, specify that 35 percent of all new car sales will need to be zero-emission by 2026, rising to 68 percent by 2030.

Rhode Island was the most recent state to join the list of states pledging to ban the sale of gas-powered cars, joining Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Washington. According to the site, the District of Columbia has also made the commitment. Other states have adopted versions of the legislation, but not yet pledged to ban gas-powered cars entirely by that date. A Massive Security Fence Ordered To Surround The Capitol As Pretend President Joe Biden Prepares To Attempt The Teleprompter For SOTU 2024

A massive fence will ironically surround the Capitol while President Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union address on March 7, as federal government issues highest possible security level

Oh, the irony! As Barack Obama prepares to give the State of the Union SOTU 2024 speech through pretend president Joe Biden, the federal government has assigned its highest possible security status to the event with a massive security fence having been put up last night. We don’t need walls and fences on our southern border to keep out illegal alien strangers, but we do need walls and fences to prevent the American people from getting too close to the Capitol building. If we are not a nation on the brink of civil war, I’ll eat may hat.

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Proverbs 29:2 (KJB)

I won’t be watching the State of the Union address, my King James Bible has already informed me what our true state actually is, we are a drop of a bucket. We already know that the actual president, Barack Obama in his third term, has written the words that will come across Biden’s teleprompter. The only question is can he successfully navigate and deliver those words in a coherent and rational way? I’m thinking not. My heart hurts for the shape America is in in 2024, it’s a hot mess and about to get hotter and messier. In the meantime, enjoy the Third World fence around the capitol of the most-powerful nation on Earth. I wonder if the State of the Union will be addressing that, probably not.

Security fence goes up at Capitol for State of the Union address

FROM GAZETTEXTRA: The Capitol Police Board on Friday approved the installation of the fencing. A security fence went up around the Capitol for last year’s State of the Union speech. The State of the Union is designated as a National Special Security Event, the highest security status the federal government can assign to an event. These are determined by the size, scope and potential threat profile.

U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said people should expect to see a heavy law enforcement presence around the Capitol complex. He noted that there will be technology, plainclothes officers and support teams.

The agency is working with Capitol Police, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and dozens of other federal and city agencies, Guglielmi said.

The House sergeant-at-arms led a briefing earlier this week that included representatives from the Pentagon, White House and several other agencies and stakeholders on security preparations for the event, a source familiar with the briefing said. READ MORE

US Power Grid Is Starting To Fail As The Relentless Energy Demands Of Clean Technology, Data Centers, EVs And Crypto Mining Are Pushing It To Blackout

SHARE NOW THE END BEGINS:

Vast swaths of the United States are at risk of running short of power as electricity-hungry data centers and clean-technology factories proliferate around the country, leaving utilities and regulators grasping for credible plans to expand the nation’s creaking power grid.

Do you ever wonder if our leaders here in America are really as stupid as they appear to be, making decisions that are absolutely asinine in their totality? Or, is all this a calculated and carefully crafter agenda to bring down our nation in a ruinous heap? Today we ponder our insane rush to clean technology and electric everything while at the same time possessing a power grid that is unable to comply with the demands made on it.

There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof.” Ezekiel 22:25 (KJB)

Back in November of 2023, Barack Obama released the dystopian end times movie ‘Leave The World Behind’ which shows you how a nation obsessed with electric vehicles and technology winds up. I might add also that we wind up there because our rogue government has intentionally pushed us to the conclusion, as shown in Obama’s movie. You can’t believe the vast majority of stuff that Obama says, but you can believe him when he shows us America’s future in ‘Leave The World Behind’. Whatever you do, don’t buy into the EV hype, don’t give up your gas stove, and do everything you can to reduce your dependence on electricity as much as possible. The United States power grid is going to fail, only a matter of time.

Amid explosive demand, America is running out of power

FROM MICROSOFT START: In Georgia, demand for industrial power is surging to record highs, with the projection of electricity use for the next decade now 17 times what it was only recently. Arizona Public Service, the largest utility in that state, is also struggling to keep up, projecting it will be out of transmission capacity before the end of the decade absent major upgrades.

Northern Virginia needs the equivalent of several large nuclear power plants to serve all the new data centers planned and under construction. Texas, where electricity shortages are already routine on hot summer days, faces the same dilemma.

The soaring demand is touching off a scramble to try to squeeze more juice out of an aging power grid while pushing commercial customers to go to extraordinary lengths to lock down energy sources, such as building their own power plants.

“When you look at the numbers, it is staggering,” said Jason Shaw, chairman of the Georgia Public Service Commission, which regulates electricity. “It makes you scratch your head and wonder how we ended up in this situation. How were the projections that far off? This has created a challenge like we have never seen before.”

A major factor behind the skyrocketing demand is the rapid innovation in artificial intelligence, which is driving the construction of large warehouses of computing infrastructure that require exponentially more power than traditional data centers. AI is also part of a huge scale-up of cloud computing. Tech firms like Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft are scouring the nation for sites for new data centers, and many lesser-known firms are also on the hunt.

The proliferation of crypto-mining, in which currencies like bitcoin are transacted and minted, is also driving data center growth. It is all putting new pressures on an overtaxed grid — the network of transmission lines and power stations that move electricity around the country. Bottlenecks are mounting, leaving both new generators of energy, particularly clean energy, and large consumers facing growing wait times for hookups. READ MORE
