THE WISE SHALL UNDERSTAND

New Bible Versions REMOVE ‘Father’ and ‘Son Of God’ Because It Offends Muslims

| January 28, 2012

Modern bible continue to blaspheme God’s word

“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:19

A controversy is brewing over three reputable Christian organizations, which are based in North America, whose efforts have ousted the words “Father” and “Son” from new Bibles. Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are under fire for “producing Bibles that remove “Father,” “Son” and “Son of God” because these terms are offensive to Muslims.”

Concerned Christian missionaries, Bible translators, pastors, and national church leaders have come together with a public petition to stop these organizations. They claim a public petition is their last recourse because meetings with these organizations’ leaders, staff resignations over this issue and criticism and appeals from native national Christians concerned about the translations “have failed to persuade these agencies to retain “Father” and “Son” in the text of all their translations.”

Biblical Missiology, a ministry of Boulder, Colorado-based Horizon International, is sponsoring the petition. The main issues of this controversy surround new Arabic and Turkish translations. Here are three examples native speakers give:

First, Wycliffe and SIL have produced Stories of the Prophets, an Arabic Bible that uses an Arabic equivalent of “Lord” instead of “Father” and “Messiah” instead of “Son.”

Second, Frontiers and SIL have produced Meaning of the Gospel of Christ , an Arabic translation which removes “Father” in reference to God and replaces it with “Allah,” and removes or redefines “Son.”

For example, the verse which Christians use to justify going all over the world to make disciples, thus fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) reads, “Cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiah and his Holy Spirit” instead of “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Rev. Bassam Madany, an Arab American who runs Middle East Resources, terms these organization’s efforts as “a western imperialistic attempt that’s inspired by cultural anthropology, and not by biblical theology.”

Third, Frontiers and SIL have produced a new Turkish translation of the Gospel of Matthew that uses Turkish equivalents of “guardian” for “Father” and “representative” or “proxy” for “Son.” To Turkish church leader Rev. Fikret Böcek, “This translation is ‘an all-American idea’ with absolutely no respect for the ‘sacredness’ of Scripture, or even of the growing Turkish church.”

SIL has issued a public response stating “all personnel subscribe to a statement of faith which affirms the Trinity, Christ’s deity, and the inspiration of Scripture.” However, in the same statement, which is similar to Wycliffe’s, it claims “word-for-word translation of these titles would communicate an incorrect meaning (i.e. that God had physical, sexual relationships with Mary) [sic],” thus justifying substituting “Father” and “Son” in new translations. Calls and emails to Wycliffe and SIL to clarify their positions were not returned. Frontiers responded to calls with articles that critics have already dismissed as skirting omissions of “Father” and “Son” in new Bible translations. source – Yahoo News

  1. Judy says:

I think this is a disgrace. No one has the right to change the word of God. They will pay with their souls going to hell. God has promised that. As far as the muslims being upset over it, they can just go back home from where they came from. We did not ask them to come here in the first place. They are not a real religeon anyway. They worship someone that died and went back to dust just like a human body does. He will definatley not be in heaven.

    • Shar says:

When are they going to reword the Koran so that it doesn’t offend Christians… this is absurd…

    • Tim says:

Judy, these translations are produced to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with Muslims IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES, not in the US. So they can not just “go back home where they come from.” What is the point of translating if not to share it with the people in that country/language?

Wycliffe and others are trying to translate in a way such that they do not stumble over “Son of God” into getting a wrong meaning that will immediately turn them off of the message. (e.g. God had sex with Mary to father Jesus). It’s tricky, but there are ways to do it that stay true to original ideas of sonship. (Using footnotes, etc).

      • Mickey says:

You are either with Jesus or against Him and his word. This is NEW AGE mumbo jumbo that will lead you straight to Hell.

Trying to change the Word of God for any reason is crucifying Jesus again.

        I won’t do that.

        YBIJesus,
        Mickey

        • Kathy says:

Jesus said the world would hate him and that he would be an offense. Before I got saved it offended me to no end. That is what the word is supposed to do…shine a light on evil. They are basically giving them a flashlight without batteries. Well done oh you proud defenders of the faith. They shouldn’t even call themselves believers. They are planted saboteurs. There are enemies in the camp!!

          • Tim says:

True. The gospel is an offense to many and there are elements we should not change: The cross, the fact that God would sacrifice his son.
However, we should not offend people with EXTRA information that is not included in the original texts and is as offensive to US and as it is to THEM: e.g. the idea that God had sex with Mary and bore a son.
Revelations says we should not ADD or Take away from the words of the prophecy.

          • Steve says:

The bible doesn’t say God had sex with Mary. It says God caused Mary to be pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. You claim is an outrage. You should also note that it says in Deuteronomy that we are not to add to the words of God. The point is that we are not to change the meaning of the words. Lord is not the same as Father. They have distinctly different meanings, The same goes for substituting Messiah for Son. It is a clear misrepresentation of what God said, and it is offensive to God. He chose those words for a reason. Who are you to approve the changing of His words to something, anything different?

          • Bab says:

That’s why Bible clearly states that Jesus is God’s BEGOTTEN Son, not sons like created or adopted. (except the new crazy versions which totally swallow that important word out).
Bible also says He was born because of Holy Spirit upon Mary’s womb.
If you know that BIBLE is the infallible word of God, how stupid would it be to change it to one’s own convenience? God said it the way He said it for a reason, we humans have no right to change it!
Muslims don’t believe in Bible becoz they say its corrupted and what do you know, we just proved it for them!

      • clawson says:

It is the Holy Spirit that leads in truth not mans translations. Man changes the words of the scriptures and he can be guaranteed the plagues that come with it… ever lasting burn fire. We are tampering with the WORD of God way to much and it has confused and misled many!

      • Suzanne says:

Nicely put Tim, we as Christians need to get the word of God out to everyone any and every way we can.

    • Linda says:

This is absolutely absurb. Why should we change, and what right do we have to change the Inspired Word of God. They, Muslims, do not change anything to meld in our ways and that is their own problem. We are Christian and believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Do not change this. You have totally emersed yourself in the false teachings of the world, which have no substance in Christianity.

      • I do agree with your word Linda, I know also many Muslims who have accepted Jesus Christ Lord & Savior and they have no problem and also have great joy, because they found the hidden treasure and only source of life… instead of opening the eyes of the blinded Muslims and other blinded powerless Christians hold inside the iron net of the devil, this group who have allowed themselves to be led captive by the snare of the devil, are even sending these people a worst darkness then what they have before… Muslims knows Jesus Christ very well, and the Devil/Satan knows him, why changing the undeniable truth???

    • kelly says:

      martin luther did it

      • chris says:

and look what it let too. 30,000 plus denominations all teaching and believing different things about Jesus, the bible, baptism, the holy father, the trinity etc. The list could go on forever. God has only one meaning through his sacred word and tradition not 30,000 variations of what you think is correct. Martin Luther was trying to help reform The Church (which he deeply loved and respected) not start a new belief or denomination under himself. This is always what will happen when you tamper with the Word of God, even if you have good intentions. That’s why one of Jesus’ main objectives was creating The Church to be our guide with sacred word and tradition. His apostles were the beginning of that with Peter clearly being established as the authoritative one (hence our first holy father or pope). “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). The Church is here for us to trust and help us obtain our salvation.

        • vvv says:

sorry but you really sound like a Roman Catholic cultist.
Jesus is the Rock, the Word is our foundation and NO institution with its ritualistic system can “help” us to salvation. Please in the Name of the LORD stop worshiping the Beast through the Mother Whore.
IF YOU WOULD ONLY READ the PURE Word of God with faith you would see that this satanic masterpiece is just the opposite of God’s will.

    • Mike says:

You’re a religious zealot no better than the Muslims who strap bombs to their chests and murder innocent people. Listen to yourself. You say, “they can just go back home” and “they are not a real religion (yes this is how it is spelled) anyway” just clearly shows your bigotry. You are what is wrong with this world. A radical Christian is no better than a radical Muslim.

  2. this is blasphemy!! Heretics!! John Wycliff would turn in his grave and haunt them if he were not in heaven. One step closer to the last of the last days, when men will not endure sound doctrine and will turn to those who will tickle their ears with doctrines of demons. Imagine this may be the transaltion used by the 12th Imam to turn many away from Jesus as Messiah, Son of the Living God. They will most likely also agree with Muslims that Jacob was not the son intended by God as the lineage of Christ, but will find a way to say that Ishmael was! Trash!! Evil rubbish!! Nonsense!! Boycott Wycliff!!

  3. I am physically ill. If this does not serve as a wake up call to the Body of Christ, I cannot fathom what it will take. I pray the Lord to rebuke the enemy from His Holy Word. Let God arise and all His enemies be scattered.

  4. Leslie Boyer Bass
who do you serve if you are too weak to use the name of the Deity you claim to worship….oohhh.you are switching to name the god you follow,,hmmm, then stop using the Bible as your book….. i am disappointed to learn of the deliberate corruption of the Scriptures, the Bible is NOT allah’s book…if you want to call allah use the quaran. if you lie to these muslim people by creating this confusion, you will be responsible for their lives,,,

  5. Taylor says:

It’s apostasy. If Muslims get upset over them then don’t read the Bible. We don’t ask them to change language in the Koran to fit our Christian beliefs.

    • And the Moslems would not change it, even if they thought it might help proselytize christians to allah.

You are absolutely correct. It IS apostasy of the worst sort – it is syncretism with a Canaanite religion. Such things got Israel dispersed to the nations. Do the xians in charge of these organizations think they will NOT suffer a similar judgment?

  6. Meira says:

Wow….This is not good….God have mercy on us, and stop these bibles from being published. Remove the fear of terrorism from the Church, and help us know/understand the truth about Your Name! Wake up the Church to worship You in Spirit and in Truth; without compromise. Thank You, Amen.

  7. Convincing Christians to change the wording of the Bible, proves to the Muslim psyche that Judaism and Christianity are ‘False,’ since we are able/willing to change the attributes of our God so we don’t upset their god, since they feel they have the true god, because they are not allowed to change the words.
This may well be a part of the overall insanity that ends up causing Christians, and Jews, to look like haters, false in faith.
We can only stand on ‘Truth,’ refuse to cooperate, and be prepared to be removed from the cross-hairs, as they suddenly wonder where we went, soon, I believe.

    • Rosicranz says:

I agree with you. There is no justification for changing the name of our God denying the Son of God and trying to please man… the focus and intent of all true Believers, followers of the LORD is to honor him not man… it goes to show how little regard they have for the LORDSHIP of Jesus Christ… I am sure had they asked HIM first, and listened to HIM…they could not have done something so stupid….

  8. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit from beginning to the end. I pray for each one of the people that choose to and willfully change the written and inspired word of God. I pray that all Christians step up and use there GOD given voice to stand against what the enemy is trying to do. The word of God written in the KJV Holy Bible is our strength from God and HIS promises and anyone / everyone who’s trying / attempting to change it will reap what they sow. God’s warnings are very clear and should be taken seriously.

Revelation 22:18-19, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Proverbs 30:5-6, Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

    http://jesus-is-lord.com/kjvdefns.htm

Heavenly Father, God of us all, hace mercy on the people that don’t understand the truth for lack of knowledge. Put a flame inside us all to stand on your true and inspired word and to seek you first in all that we do. Reveal to each one the attempts of the enemy and guide them to your wisdom. IN JESUS PRECIOUS NAME .. AMEN

  9. Then it will be ok if we change a few things in the koran because it offends us.

    • amen brother !!
why must we always change and adapt to suit their wants and needs?
USA needs to stand up like in the greatest generation, and say ” your either for us, or against us.”

funny thing is, the koran plainly tells muslims to kill christians and infidels. i HAVE a copy and i KNOW what it SAYES !!
i will NOT bow down to kiss a muslims butt, nor will this CHRISTIAN mold and change MY BELIFES to suit thier twisted belifes.
they cannot simply be satisfied with “you do your thing, ill do mine”.
there can be NO peace with muslims ever.
the Koran plainly states a muslim shall not be friend to the christian nor the jew”. its in print.
the presedent, congress and all those who say Islam is a “religeon of peace” are educated FOOLS.
The Koran is based on the writings of a warrior , not a prophet of peace.
in the end, as muslims outnumber christians 100 to 1, yes we will loose and be overcome by them.
simply cause my Bible sayes to turn the other cheek, and forgive. the Koran sayes KILL.
you read a Koran for yourself and tell me if i lie.

    • Exactly.
Not that I would bother to read that junk.

    • Trish says:

AMEN!!! they don’t have to read OUR HOLY BIBLE!!! I ain’t gonna read the karan. so they don’t have to be offended!

  10. David Choate says:

I think it is time we as God fearing and loving Americans Stand up to the muslim loving and obeying people..I will not buy but will in turn start a boycott for anyone who can give into another religion (and or government) such as the koran..My bible is the word and teachings of the almighty God. Lord God help us to defend to all who can go against your teachings and word.

  11. Explain to me how another can change the wording of my Bible to suit them and their beliefs?

  12. Angie says:

This makes me so mad that they did this. They have catered to the muslims and desecrated our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and the Trinity. This is a persecution on all Christians, we are feeling the birth pains for the end time.

  13. joe says:

WOW……I pray to Jesus that something happens to these publishers and thier companies that they will be unable to proceed with these publications and any future possibilities of this kind of transition to any “WORD OF JESUS CHRIST”…..

  14. Josh says:

I’m not christian but good gods this is retarded. Nor is it tolerance….Why in the hell would Christians care about catering Muslims…..Also, since when did Muslims begin reading the bible to become offended by it?

    americans are sooooo friggin stupid.

    • Mark Downing says:

      josh,
We know that this first started when Abraham and Sarah were very young. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham

First born of Abraham by Hagar (Sarah’s Egyptian handmaid) – Son = Ishmael
Lineage of Ishamael led to Mohammad
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad

First born to Abraham by Sarah (His wife) – Son = Isssac
      Lineage of Jesus Christ
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genealogy_of_Jesus

This is a view that roughly correlates the world view, fairly accuratley. Christians contend their view is more accurate as would many historians due to timelines, biographies, etc.

TRUE Christians are enraged not ignorant

We’ve never accepted their false religion, but so many attempts have been made to avoid their passive agressive tactics that this has come to this. It’s happened before throughout history. Islam believes it’s theri turn to rule the world.

Mind you the world’s in a mess and in dire need of fixing due to tolerence and to gross manipulation coming from too much ignorance and too much tolerance for doing what feels good no matter what in the name of equality.

This is a very brief synopsys and won’t prove too much without a much deeper undestanding, but there’s some areas you can research from if interested.

Also it may or not be of much interest to some so it has a lot of twisited logic coming from various less than scholarly interpretations.

      hope this helps a little

      mark

  15. Tamara says:

    Revelation 22
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

  16. Tina Reaser says:

In the name of Allah!!! Not Yahweh?? Now, that’s blasphemy! Why is it we can’t upset Muslems, but it’s okay to stomp all over Christians! Jesus said He was meek, but I don’t think that means we should be door mats and we shouldn’t change the Word of God!!!

    • Tim says:

I live in West Africa and the ONLY word we have for God in most of the languages is “Allah”. That is the word used by the church to refer to God and it has been nicely filled Biblical meaning about who He is.

It is interesting to note that “God” (English) and “Gott” (German) come from a proto-indoeuropean Sanskrit word invoking sacrifice, pouring out a libation to an idol. These were used for the Germanic high god and missionaries chose that word to be used for God (YHWH) and we have filled it up with sense such that the original meaning is gone.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_%28word%29

Likewise, French “Dieu” and Spanish “Deos” come from the word for Zeus. Go figure!

      • Daniel says:

…Because French and Spanish are derived from Latin, and the Romans adopted much from Greek culture. so what.

        • Tim says:

So why is it “heresy” to use “Allah” to talk about God in a language that only has that word, and not heresy for us to call YHWH “God/Gott/Dieu/Theos/Zeus”. The first people preaching to our ancestors had to choose a word for God and they chose one that was a germanic god (or greek god, etc).

  17. Carole says:

It`s unbelievable and blasphemous to change the truth of God`s word into a lie!

  18. Reef says:

am a muslim woman , i dont think any muslim asked for this change & i can read the bible with all respect to it .. and am pretty sure Islam doesnt ask for this change too, Islam respects other religions.

  19. Ron Cusano says:

Perhaps they will change the name of Mohammad to Jesus, and Allah to God of Israel so as not to offend Christians??

  20. Brittany says:

Let them be offended. They don’t HAVE to read the bible. (They really NEED to thoug). Just cos they can’t accept the truth doesn’t give them a right to change the Bible. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you CAN’T change the Bible.. and it won’t happen either. We serve The Most High. He WON’T let it happen. God bless :)

  21. well, then it’s no longer “The Bible” – is it? – agree or disagree with the decision to omit basic essence from any book and the book is not the same story, it’s just that simple.

  22. Kolani says:

The Bible has been edited and the meaning changed over the centuries, don’t act like this is something new, folks. The new NIV fiddles with the Old Testament to try to make it look like the New Testament is bearing out prophecies that it made that never became true. The author of Revelation KNOWS this, yet Revelation has been edited and added to. Get over it. The KJV is one of the biggest heresies in the history of the Bible by your standards, as the English language can’t match the depth of the original Hebrew and Aramaic.

  23. Mark Adams says:

This is a Christian faith record of history. To remove the words is blasphemy!!

  24. Dennis says:

We need to let these people know that we will not buy them and will boycott any company that deals with them

  25. David says:

If they can’t accept “father”, “son” or “son of God” then they are not true Christians. You cannot change the Bible to satisfy people.

  26. Lord, please have mercy on these foolish souls.

  27. Philip Lee says:

In that case, we should get rid of the Christmas story in the Bible, too. I am sure that offends the Muslims also because it says a vrigin will conceive a child through the Holy Spirit… how absurd! I am angry.

  28. Christine says:

The absolute folly of the people who would do this to the text of the Bible is so ridiculous. But it is nothing new – liberal people have tried to take the “bigoted” text against homosexual behavior out of the Bible, too. They may end up publishing such lies, but the TRUTH does not change – no matter how often they attempt to exclude what they don’t like about God’s Word! His Word is eternal – their false, inaccurate, and blasphemous “words” never will be!

  29. Joshua says:

This all seems a bit silly to me. I have a PhD in ancient languages and frequently participate in Bible translation projects. Translation choices are made all of the time to make the Bible more accessible to indigenous cultures. It seems like the only reason you are latching onto this is because the people group happens to be Islamic and you’re shocked by the translation choice of Allah. Sorry guys this is just not worth the outrage. If Wycliffe wasn’t translating the Bible into these languages then they wouldn’t have the Bible. Come on, if you’re God is who he says he is he can handle communicating his truth through translated Scripture. He does it with the NIV every day. You should be thanking Wycliffe for doing the hard work of Bible translation in difficult and dangerous cultures instead of ragging on them.

  30. Mark says:

They dug Wycliffe up and ground his bones into dust for producing his translation. The organization that bears his name apparently no longer holds his integrity. He paid a price for his work, he did not hold his life dear. Would to God it was the same now.

  31. Jared Oginga says:

Without doubt, this the worst blasphemy of our time. Surely, to change the Word of God because it offends Muslims is unacceptable. We are not even helping the Muslims. What will happen to the many former Muslims who are now followers of Jesus Christ, will they need to change their belief into ‘guardian’ or whatever new title Jesus has been given. What if Muslims, point out something else that is ‘offensive’ to them, will they change? I regret to say this, but this is the work of ‘arm-chair’ evangelists. It is very sad.

  32. We must stand up for our christian faith and not always worry about offending someone. Instead we should worry about offending God. Interesting to note is the fact that Martin Luther did some revision also to the bible which most people don’t realize.

  33. Michael says:

It’s not the Bible anymore. It takes translators ages to accurately translate the original. Then to take the translation and change words destroys the scripture. This version is fiction based on the Holy Bible. Stick with approved versions such as Douay-Rheims or New American.

  34. Lou J Apa says:

And it is written….a time will come when They will call GOOD EVIL and EVIL GOOD….and deny The Father…..
    Shame…Shame…Shame…pray for our World!
    lja/JMJ

  35. Gabriel says:

But this is nothing new with Protestant Bibles. The problem with Protestants is that they have put their faith in Martin Luther. Luther, an ex-Catholic priest—took it upon himself to remove 7 books from the Old Testament and to dismiss the Book of James and the Book of Revelation as not being inspired. His reasoning behind removing the Old Testament books? He was following what the Jews of his day considered part of the Old Testament. Luther did not realize that in the year 90 AD—long after the crucifixion and resurrection— the Jews who rejected Jesus dismissed the Septuagint (the Greek version of the Old Testament). Most of Jesus’ quotes from the Old Testament were from the Septuagint. Also, the Book of Wisdom, another book removed by Luther, has the most astounding prophecy about the suffering messiah. (Read: Wisdom 2:12-20)

  36. Wow from me also. This is really telling about where we have allowed ourselves to come. How could we possibly change the Bible to suit anyone else.??????? I pray these people rethink that and allow our God to be God. The outcomes of all things are up to Him. FC

  37. Gary says:

Matthew 10:33 – But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

  38. Why is this such a surprise? Think about it. The Protestant Bible was been altered since Luther… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther's_canon
When there is no central authority people can do what they want with no accountability. You can complain, but who to?

  39. Candice says:

Gods’ word is his spoken truth found in the Bible, now which bible you read, will depend on your beliefs. The one true King James is the most accurate. The new translations are helpful but not the languages used in those times, Hebrew, Greek, etc. Many Christians who claim to be are not. I agree with Rue Mcdowell, this is the time when we don’t want to compromise Gods’ Word. Many are doing this to be more comfortable.
Pray for us sinners and all of America!
We can love the sinner but not the sin.

  40. What, exactly, is the purpose of these new translations? If it’s to convert Muslims, then it’s counterproductive. Any Muslim who converts, at some point, will have to come to grips with the Trinity and with the nature of the Persons in that Trinity. Also, any Muslim who converts will have to realize that “Yahweh” is not “Allah,” since “Yahweh” is a god of loving relationship (again, referring back to the Trinity) and “Allah” is essentially the master to whom Muslims and their converts must submit, nothing more.

Who, exactly, dreams up these ideas and why? This makes absolutely no sense from an evangelical perspective.

  41. Sven Grodnik says:

Sorry, but I don’t see the concern. The author of the article opens with Revelations 22:19, but Luthor, under his own authority removed seven books from the bible after nearly 1500 years of formal sanction. So, under what authority is the table of contents for the Bible derived and agreed upon? Jehovah Witness have intentionally mistranslated their version of the Bible. Without a binding authority to say what books and what translation are to be used, it follows the holy word of God is up for grabs. At last count I heard there are over 33,000 registered Christian denominations. They must all differ on at least one point or they would be unified. This sounds harsh, but without one binding authority, Christianity is a house divided and things like deliberate mistranslations are a natural consequence.

  42. Paul Gray says:

This totally stands to reason and it is inevitable – you protestants didn’t like the Original Version of the Bible (still un-modified in the Catholic Church) so you took out selected books, verses and segments to meet your need and justified it under various reasons. Now it is happening again – again, to suit the so called “needs” of the people. Truth is truth and no matter how many books, verses, segments and/or words you change or remove/replace it will still remain a watered down version – please remember that you WILL be held accountable to the whole, complete Bible (as held by the Bible of the Catholic Church) – Our Lord does NOT accept excuses. You all have my prayers that you will be converted and come back again the the WHOLE truth!

    • Daniel says:

Great comment Paul. It seems they didn’t like my comment about Protestants coming back home to the one true church, Catholicism, because they didn’t post it.

Either stand for Truth or don’t.

  45. d pharisee says:

It maybe time to get really curious and ask the question, by the way if what JESUS said while on earth will be put into writing, the bible will not hold all of it but who decided what scripture, epistle, gospel, letters etc (content) will be in the bible, who compiled the bible together, who made the table of contents. Which body made it to be like you see it, you can touch it, you can open it, you can carry it. Some say, it fell down from heaven. NONSENSE.

  46. khpage says:

It should be remembered by all that Muslim fanatics over the last century have martyred/murdered untold millions of Christians. Perhaps they are the ones who will claim “Lord, lord, did we not do great works in thy name?”. Keep in mind that the Holy One of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and is more acutely aware of the situation than any of us.

  47. MJM says:

Didn’t this happen once before when King James approved his bible….and then later when it was retranslated again by Scofield? Where was the uproar then? If these people change it now and are heretics then are you not heretics from 400 years ago? Don’t get me wrong…I do not approve of the changes..but I am not a supporter of the changes made 400 years ago either.

  48. Charlie says:

    Thank you, (writer) KOLANI!

The scriptures WERE originally written in Hebrew with Aramaic …..
Christians did, in fact, STEAL THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES TRYING TO ‘PROVE’ their historically UNPROVEN CLAIMS about a mere human being…
Historically, anti-Judaism is a result of CHRISTIANS TRYING TO RAM THEIR RELIGION DOWN THE THROATS OF OTHERS WHO MORE THAN LIKELY DO NOT/DID not want to accept whatever brand of Christianity was being forced down their ( the evangelized) throats…..
See Martin Luther’s ON THE JEWS AND THEIR LIES (1543) which Luther wrote after HE could not ram his brand of Christianity down the throats of Jews residing in Germany…..
Christians of ALL denominations have long used THEIR Bible as a method of trying to force their religion on others…….

  51. SUSAN says:

I mean no disrespect by this, but am simply stating a point of fact…when Luther had 7 books of the Bible removed because he didn’t like the doctrines they supported (and this is simple fact; for 1500 years–46 books in the OT; 7 were removed as a ‘tradition of man’…he would have taken James out of the NT if he thought he could have gotten away with it), how is there any room for complaining about other alterations? This is just the logical result of his rebellion and schism and it’s going to get Much worse, VERY quickly.

Get yourself a good RSV-CE, and come home to the Church that Jesus established…the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

  52. Anna says:

  56. Tom says:

It seems many are upset because the translators are catering to the muslims. However, the real issue, as I see it, is that they have NOT translated God’s Word from the original languages. The Scriptures were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. We have sufficient copies of these manuscripts, but not the originals, to warrant an accurate translation in any language without alteration to make it palatable for a particular group. After all, Jesus did not alter His message to make either the Jews or the Gentiles happy. Jesus was, is, and will be a stumbling block to those who reject Him and His substitutionary sacrifice for sin.

  57. john says:

Sounds like a purposeful attempt to subvert Christianity and justify the Muslims in their faith…those responsible do this at the cost of their souls. When it comes to ones faith there is no bending…he who stands for nothing falls for everything…he who goes against God….falls.

  58. Len says:

Luke 9:26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
John 12:43 for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
The wickedness of being ashamed of Christ is very great. It is a proof of unbelief. It shows that we care more for the praise of men whom we can see, than that of God whom we cannot see. It is a proof of ingratitude. It shows that we fear confessing Him before man who was not ashamed to die for us upon the cross. Wretched indeed are they who give way to this sin. Here, in this world, they are always miserable. A bad conscience robs them of peace. In the world to come they can look for no comfort. In the day of judgment they must expect to be disowned by Christ to all eternity, if they will not confess Christ for a few years upon earth.—Ryle Expository Thoughts

  59. Gospa says:

Now, that is sick. How can anyone who calls themselves Christian change God’s Word? They best read rge last pages of Revelation, where it says if anyone adds or subtracts from His Word they will suffer the consequences. (This is paraphrased, not His direct words, but the meaning is there)

  60. Ivan says:

This is a lot of half-truth and incomplete information this person is trying to make out to be full truth. I happen to know that Wycliffe is preparing a response to this.

  61. Jack says:

This is simply another current ripple effect after 500 years of “reformation'” protestantism…The devolution goes on. When the branches are separated from the vine, the branches die..Protestantism is so corrupt that it is dying. Imagine, basing one’s eternal salvation on the ‘teachings’ and claims of mere men like Luther, Henry VII and ‘archbishop’ Cranmer. Only the sensible members of the Anglican Communion now see the light. They are returning to Catholicism, the Christian religion of all protestants’ ancestors. Wake up and return now. These chicken hearted ‘translaters’ are so afraid of the pagans that they might as well dig a hole and jump in, or the ‘religion of peace’ will do it for them…

  62. veritas says:

It is ridiculous to assume that the muslem will change their horrible writings in the Koran to accommodate the Christian Bible. But still I am not shocked as there are now so many translations all under a different names. Each church or sect got their own translation of the Holy Book.Let us be honest for heavens sake!! The Bibles name is the Douay Rheims was translated and written by and given to the Holy Roman Catholic Church.Stick to that Bible and you will be right in the eyes of God!! Forget all the other 1500 translations. I am not shocked by eliminating Father or Son and you should also not. The bible was written under the guidance of the Holy Spirit you Protestants admit that yourself. How come you took out 6 books?Your bible is not complete !! You know why? Because you knew or know it better than the Holy Spirit!! To be right with God read the the Douay Rheims Bible that is the complete and true word of God !!!!!!.

  63. Laura says:

Most of these comments are coming from completely un-educated “well-meaning” Christians. Try getting a master’s and doctorate in anthropology and divinity and translation and try living in another country, learning their language, and trying to share the Word of God with a people group who are completely 100% unlike western or American Christians. It’s a whole new world. Nothing most of you can imagine. Many converts to Christianity have come to accept Jesus as their savior by stories that, if you were to just see posted in an article like this on the internet, would have you spewing hateful comments and words like the ones I see above. Unfortunately, American Christians really have no idea what it’s like to translate the Bible into languages so those people groups can TRULY grasp the gospel message. It saddens me to see the above comments that are absolutely judgmental, quick to attack, and unfortunately, immature and uneducated.

  64. Charlie says:

Martin Luther’s ON THE JEWS AND THEIR LIES was used as a sort of ‘text’ by the Nazis from ‘Krystalnacht’ (destruction of Jewish homes, businesses, burning of Jewish books, etc) all through the Nazi governance during WWII….

Not that Luther was evoking much that was (is) new concerning Christian anti-Judaism…….John Chrysostom had written ‘You(, ie, You Jews) are of your Father, the Devil…………………….
I could continue with a long, historical chronology of Christian anti-Judaism –divided between both Catholics and/or Protestants, but, in the interest of brevity, I will not……….

  65. veritas says:

#75 Mr Jack: Why do you say ,the Anglicans are becoming Catholics? They do not!! They will keep their own services and their own books. But let me tell you it is the other way around. The Catholic Church has become Anglican totally!! Forget Thomas More and Fisher. The Church does not talk about them any more. Starting with Henry viii and Luther the stage was set for Apostasy in the world and the great Apostasy was completed in 1967 by a unholy catholic church. Now they joined the Anglican organization.

  66. Perry says:

“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:19

Apropos of nothing, but to begin the article above with this quote is a non-sequitir. This verse refers only to the Book of Revelation. “The book of this prophecy” is the revelation to John. The fact that it was the last book written, and appears at the end of the compiled ancient books we have bound and call The Bible, is simply a chronological choice. Many Christians, when they see this phrase, or similar phrases referencing “the Word of God,” imagine the leather-bound Bible in their hands as that being referenced. That leather-bound compilation of books appeared much later than the individual books themselves were written, so the Bible cannot refer to itself as such.

Most likely, “the Word of God,” when appearing in various books, referenced the Old Testament and the oral tradition and was not seen as so strictly bound as American Evangelical Protestants see it.

  67. Matthew says:

Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
    ~Proverbs 30:6~

‎6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
    ~Galations 1:6-10~

  68. Peter Corry says:

    “ Dear children ;
Also today my motherly heart calls you to prayer, to your personal relationship with God the Father, to the joy of prayer in Him.

God the Father is not far away from you and He is not unknown to you. He revealed Himself to you through my Son and gave you Life that is my Son.

Therefore, my children, do not give in to temptations that want to separate you from God the Father.

Pray! Do not attempt to have families and societies without Him.

Pray! Pray that your hearts may be flooded by the goodness which comes only from my Son, Who is sincere goodness.

Only hearts filled with goodness can comprehend and accept God the Father.

I will continue to lead you. In a special way I implore you not to judge your shepherds. My children, are you forgetting that God the Father called them? Pray! Thank you.”

These were used for the Germanic high god and missionaries chose that word to be used for God (YHWH) and we have filled it up with sense such that the original meaning is gone.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_%28word%29
Likewise, French “Dieu” and Spanish “Deos” come from the word for Zeus. Go figure!</blockquote

excuse me but not one Church has ever referrred to the God Almighty as allah as allah is a limited god and not theTriune Almighty.
now you will attempt to tell US that islam would share their allah with christianity ?
    why don't i think so ?

It is really absurd but im not surprised because all these are just a preparation for the coming great tribulation to occur after the rapture.I am not amazed no matter how good the ORGANIZER but this is just a proof that the end is really at hand and it is inevitable. All these changes and more cganges to come will surely happen But Christians should be firmed according to the truth and should not fear because they cannot do anymore harm in our souls Jeus said, And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.(Matthew 10:28) may our Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on them,,,I pray that these people be enlightened of the truth..

  71. Funny, the King James 1611 had to translate the meaning of some words because the Hebrew of the Old Testament could not be precisely translated into English, yet no one makes a fuss about that. The idea behind translating any written work is to make it accessible to those who don’t speak or read the original language. The original texts of the 1611 were in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Guess we should go back to those so that there are no mistranslations, and too bad if you can’t read them!

  72. joechia says:

Sickening, what next ?. To say that Jesus did not die on the cross ?. So that the muslims will not be offended . Its either you believe in Jesus or you don’t . Jesus has said what is given to Him by His father will not leave him, so if the muslims do not believe that Jesus is the only way to the Father then its up to them. For Jesus had said that no one comes to the father but by me.

Ironic. Wycliff, SIL and Frontiers are denying the very truth of the sacred writings of the Book they translate and publish.

    Rev 22:18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, god will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, god will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

Matthew 3:18 “for truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the law until all is accomplished.

The third commandment actually renders better/more true as Do not bring Yahuah’s name to “ruin”
I say in love to all, search your Bibles (get a better translation!! lol if you have to- something closer to the hebrew), ALL the answers are in there, go back to the Torah=Word=Way=Truth=Life, go back to your hebrew roots (use a strongs concordance to look up every word), and find/research the TRUTH for yourselves… because the Truth is being revealed in these last days… as in the above case with the Bible translators revealing to all who they truly follow after.

  77. While I am writing these words I received a message in my facebook from a friend, “Dr. Ahmed, I do not know if you have time to address this, but if you do, I would appreciate it immensely. New Bible Versions REMOVE ‘Father’ and ‘Son Of God’ Because It Offends Muslims (Wycliff Bible)” First of all, let me say it straightforward, the Qur’an is from the antichrist and Muhammad if he isn’t the devil incarnate or his son he is the devil’s advocate for sure. The Qur’an is from the antichrist because it denies and opposes the main tenets of Christianity. It denies the Holy Trinity and strongly rejects and abhors the divinity, crucifixion, and resurrection of Christ (Qur’an 4:171 5:17). It condemns Christians as infidels who deserve hellfire because they believe in these doctrines (Qur’an 5:70-75, 5:116-117). Without these doctrines, the Gospel of Christ is empty and Christians have no message to preach to the world. Fight lie with truth, hate with love, evil with good, fear with courage, and never ever hesitate to speak the truth and expose the evils of Islam. Islam is pure evil and there is nothing good in it Period.

Shame, poor muslims, they are the most easily offended nation on the planet!! Mt 10v34to38 – Jesus himself said He did not come to bring peace but a sword. Shame on those who are making these changes!!! Why would they want to use the name allah in the christian bible anyway when that’s not the god that the christians pray to.

  81. If the truth hurts….it should. Believe in entering heaven through the heart of Jesus, or you will never enter at all anyway ! I don’t care what anyone believes or what offends them. I only care about God’s opinion, not that of a Muslim.

I also agree. How can you profess to be a Christian and not love your neighbor? This does not mean that you cannot express the truth in love and firmness or that you should back down, but if you truely loved your neighbor, you would express yourself with the purpose of leading them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The protestant should stay away from the bible as, it was given and composed by the Catholics. Protestant are not even Christians. They left the Catholic Church founded by Christ. Once you leave the Catholic Church, one denounces the Christian faith. Their main existing is to oppose Christ. The hallmark of Protestantism is to divide. There are two (2) semi catholic churches and one(1) truly Catholic Church. Protestantism consist of about 30.000 sects. All pretend to “teaching the word of God”. their own way. What you could call “cafeteria Protestants” pick and chose.

  92. Angela says:

Wycliffe is NOT attempting to not offend Muslims. They are trying to translate the original Greek phrase “ho huios tou theou” as accurately as possible in the target languages – which are not English. There are plenty of things in the Bible that are highly offensive to Muslims that Wycliffe is also NOT “trying to remove” from Scripture. There are thousands of Wycliffe people all over the world who have sacrificed and dedicated their lives to bring God’s Word to minority people groups so that they can read God’s Word just like you and I can — so that they can know Jesus, their Saviour, their God, the one and only Son of God the Father.

All Wycliffe is trying to do is to prevent a miss-translation of such a sacred term. Please read the article below for a better understanding of how complex this topic is: how it’s really hard to even have this conversation using phrases that have been re-translated back into English. NO translation can ever be entirely accurate or entirely literal becuase no two languages have the same words and concepts with the exact same meanings and connotations. None of our English translations are exactly like the Greek and Hebrew. Some get much closer than others, but certainly you have heard pastors preach and say “now the Greek word used here means such and such…” in order to give us a richer and fuller understanding of Scripture.

(6 February 2012) In light of a number of questions raised about our Best Practices Statement on the translation of Divine Familial Terms, we recognize it is important to have a fuller dialogue with our many partners globally and benefit from their input to our approach in Scripture translation related to this issue. Since questions about our commitment to these translation principles have been raised, we will proactively engage to understand the concerns, clarify misunderstandings, and where indicated, adjust practice.

Therefore, SIL announces that as of today, February 6, 2012, in situations where we are involved and partnering with others in translation, and have the responsibility to do so, we will put on hold our approval of publication of translated Scripture around which this criticism is focused.

We expect this dialogue with partners, and the corresponding hold period, to commence immediately and run for an extended period.

  94. The heart of Christian faith is relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. And the sole redemption act by the Son. If we change this then all our faith has no meaning. But Muslim faith won’t accept relationship between Son and Father and will deny Christ’s atonement. Certainly the attempt to create a new Bible translation will suit their beliefs, but it’s false. That’s why they represent the different spirit which was mentioned clearly by John in his 1st Letter. Check: 1 John 2, 22-23. Anyone who attacks or denies relationship between Son and Father, or that Yeshua is the Messiah, is a liar and represents the Spirit of Antichrist! (Read carefully the whole passage: 1 John 2, 18-29). And that conclusion comes from John the Apostle, isn’t mine. – Vitold Jordan

I am from the Middle-east. The majority of muslims have no education. Whatever Emam tells them, they will believe it . the Quran mentions that the Bible we have is corrupt and we change it to remove any thing that mentions Mohamed in the Bible. Now, you have given them the assurance that we change the Bible the way we want. they will not understand it. Just translating it will not work with their mentality. And if God wanted to not offend the Muslims, he would not have needed you to fix his word.

  96. Scott says:

Apparently they didn’t read Acts 17, which Paul later repented…apparently they haven’t read the ante-nicene council articles whereby they never would have resolved to take out Son or Son of God from Bible…they would have been run out of town

  97. John says:

That passage in Revelation only refers to Revelation; Revelation itself was written quite a while before the Bible canon was put together in the 4th century. So technically, by your logic, all of the other books added to revelation are sinful and should be removed.

I’ll add that Revelation was mostly stuck in there because it’s apocalyptic nature appealed to the growing number of Germanics who considered Revelation to be an important book – as their own culture had apocalyptic elements (but mainstream Christianity in the 2nd, 3rd, and early 4th century did not). Revelation was not included in any past proposed Canons from Marcion in the early second century, until it was added in the mid 4th century.

  98. Very good blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Bless you!

  99. Jim Roane says:

I applaud Wycliffe’s desire for cultural relevance; however, altering our translation of Scripture to satisfy a muslim mindset is not the way to go about it. It is true, however, that the word ‘Son’ of God can not connotate the same meaning as ‘I am the father of my son.’ Some have skirted the problem by refering to Jesus as a “unique” son. The muslim’s objection is that of God becoming human, whatever you want to call it or whatever the process. Translation will never solve that problem as long as we Christians insist that it means that God entered human form and dwelled among us.

  100. Mathew says:

The WORD of GOD- Holy Bible is spirit breathed contents, not an ordinary one. But I am not at all surprised to know through this website, that lot of changes are taking place and it is sure otherwise how the prophecy will come true. What is written in Revelation 22:19 (KJV) >And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. // (John 15:1 [KJV])> I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. (John 16:4 [KJV])> But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. No one can shake it even if it comes on print as Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever….. Halleluiya……GLORY TO GOD….End time prophecy is taking place. Get prepared… pray for them also….AMEN

  101. Annunk says:

Witnessing to the unbeliever does NOT mean that you try not to say things that are “offensive” to them. Instead, you tell them the truth of God’s word and then you rely upon the Holy Spirit to convict their hearts of that truth.

I wonder if these “new translation authors” practice the same technique (as their writing) in their Christian walk. i.e. “keep it light — we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.)

  102. Lula says:

The Word is being manifested. In NT the Word came in flesh and the enemy thouht he had gotten rid of the Word when He was on the cross. In OT the word says tell your children and your children children about your God. The enemy tried to take God out of everything until He realize that you can’t get to God unless through Jesus. Now they threaten you on your job, lawsuits, etc if you say the Name of Jesus. This time they are trying to kill Him through threats and changing the Word to justify sin. There is nothing new under the sun. The enemy has the same agenda he’s just using different tactics. The true sons and daughters of the true God has to stay pray up and keen in the spirit

  103. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% sure. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Appreciate it

My missionary husband has worked recently with Wycliffe Bible Translators… It was always a good experience.
But if IF Wycliffe is doing this, then we will no longer work with them… EVER..

  106. natasha says:

what ppl need to realise is God never changes. His rules, His power, His love never ever changes, so when He gives us something, it stands the test of time, untouched, pure and holy, every single item. So if God gives us His word, and man defiles and changes it, he has opened a gateway for the devil to operate in people’s lives without them knowing. The armour of God comprises of the Word being the sword, and the bible talks of the Word being sharper than a double edged sword, so changing it makes it blunt. U cannot attack the enemy using a blunt sword, but these funny versions are doing just that! Check people, check for yourselves which version to use, and when you put on your armour it says your must put on each piece with prayer. And bout pleasing other people, the bible says where your treasure lies, your heart will be there too, people die, but God lives forever, in fact He is the source of life. You’ld rather attract a small crowd with the truth, than attract the whole world on a lie. God bless you all
