An Unrepentant Victoria Osteen Says “I Stand By My Remarks”

HOUSTON — Victoria Osteen, wife of megachurch speaker and author Joel Osteen, is standing by her controversial remarks that called upon congregants at Lakewood Church to “do good for your own self” because obedience, the church and worship are not for God as much as for self-happiness.
“So, I want you to know this morning: Just do good for your own self. Do good because God wants you to be happy,” Osteen continues. “When you come to church, when you worship Him, you’re not doing it for God really. You’re doing it for yourself, because that’s what makes God happy. Amen?”
In light of the controversy, Osteen issued a statement to reporters this week, outlining that while she could have selected her words more carefully, she would not recant the core of her message, which was that Christians can find personal benefit in worshiping God.
“While I admit that I could have been more articulate in my remarks, I stand by my point that when we worship God and are obedient to Him we will be better for it,” she stated. “I did not mean to imply that we don’t worship God; that’s ridiculous, and only the critics and cynics are interpreting my remarks that way.”
“Every Lakewood member knows what I was talking about because they have experienced first hand the joy and victory of a Lakewood Church worship service, and the honor, reverence and gratitude we show God,” Osteen added.

I do believe the scripture on the image is irrelevant to this, since her husband believes this way, also. And unless she made this statement while doing what she is shown ‘preaching’ in the image, that is misleading, too. That being said, the point is that both she and her husband are saying things apart from the scriptural dictates, and both ‘standing by them’. Let’s keep it honest and non-sexist.

While I disagree with WHAT she preaches, I would not attack her because she is a woman. It simply wrong. Her husband being a man preaches many wrong false and bad things, so what’s the difference between man or woman when they teach falsehood. Same way, woman can also bring good and true message. It is not women always that teach wrong, in fact 99 percent of false teachers are MEN.
The scripture you used against her femaleness is grossly misinterpreted in mainstream christianity. In original Greek Paul is directing this message to Timothy against a certain , particular ” that woman” who was not even a sister in Christ. Se infiltrated congregations In Ephesus and was a Diana worshiper. Please do more research on this as churches are using Paul’s words, misinterpreting them and then making misogynistic doctrines against Holy Spirit filled Christian sisters.

The Holy Word of “the LORD GOD” says nothing in this verse about a woman not teaching children – or other women.
Does the Bible mean adult men? Or is it talking about all males? There are male children too, last time I checked.

You’re right I am nitpicking, and I shouldn’t do that. But I am curious as to what the role of women should be in God’s church. If women are not to teach or usurp authority over men, what should they be doing to bring the Gospel to all corners of the world?
I do actually want to know the truth of God’s word, and I think that sometimes that means really looking at the verses and seeing what they mean, so that’s why I asked the question about men vs. male children.

The role of women is of absolute importance in “the church”, the body of all true believers and followers of “the Lord Jesus Christ”. Have you considered that Mary was the biological mother of our Saviour? While not specifically stated, she fed Him as an infant, changed Him when He needed to be changed, helped Him to learn how to walk. Have you listened to the song ‘Mary Did You Know’ by the Artist, Mark Lowry? ONLY a woman could fulfill that God given honor!
“The Lord Jesus Christ” showed himself first to Mary Magdalene (Mark 16:9 – KJV) because of her faithfulness to him – before He was seen by any of the Apostles!
Women still have the essential role of helping their husbands in the “the nurture and admonition of the Lord” of their children – and in these times of ‘single-parent’ homes being both mom and dad to their children.
Women are to be teachers in “the church” of other women, and children (boys and girls), and Oh how many Godly women of all nationalities are Missionaries and Teachers – within Biblical guidlines. Women are also the wives and helpmeets of Godly men – Pastors and laymen. Read Romans 16:1-5 and think about the honor that the Apostle Paul gave to Phebe and Priscilla.
I heard Adrian Rogers years ago talking about the role of Godly women – we men are blunt and rough around the edges – like a heavy ceramic mug. You ladies are fine and delicate like a fine China cup, with great beauty and refinement. Both men and women are useful, and both have their God given places and duties. Different does not man bad or second-rate – it just means different. Men are not to ‘lord it over the women’ – but to stand in front of and protect you!
I was most fortunate to have been married to a very Godly wife, and a real lady for 40+ years – so I speak with some experience.

I dont know much about the Osteen because I never listen to them, but it does seem as though they are a bit self obsessed in their renditioning of the gospel message. Paul says that if a man preaches another gospel let him accursed. I am not sure that they are, are they preaching Jesus if yes, then they are not preaching another gospel but from what I gather they are over the top prosperity preachers and that to me is unbalanced. I believe that we should prosper as christians but is it all about our happiness, does God as a loving father want us to be happy, I d say yes but he wants us to find our deepest joy and fulfillment in him irrelevant of circumstances, part of that is worshipping him not just because he is worthy but because its what we were created to do. If that is what Victoria Osteen meant then she has not expressed herself very well but if she means it all about us, then I dont agree.

I don’t know how gender became an issue here. The problem is what she said. It could have been a man or woman saying it. Believe me, plenty of men say wrong things too. I don’t know why that was even brought up. People can never seem to just focus on the topic. I find this in my groups on facebook. I’ll never understand that.
My personal understanding is that what the Prophet Amos was inspired to write in Chapter 8 is being fulfilled in its entirety in these ‘end-of-the-end times’ that we are living in.
A major contributing factor is the ever increasingly rapid number of Apostate and Heretical teachings being led by more and more “hirelings” – men and women that are ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’ – the “false teachers” and the “false prophets” of ‘Ecumenical Christendom’ – which is being led by Roman Catholicism in these ‘end-of-the-end times’ JUST PRIOR to the actual ‘Rapture’ of CHRISTians – followed some time after by “the time of Jacob’s trouble”, “the day of the Lord”, the “great tribulation”:

Not sure what your point was about Deborah. The Bible says women are to keep silence in the churches and not teach men. I believe God set up Deborah to shame the weak men of that time. I do not think God would have ideally set up a woman (though I cannot be sure), but I think He did to make a point. Anyway, judging is different than teaching. Righteous judgment could be a woman out standing up for unborn children or something of the sort.

Sorry Karen, I think you are missing the point. The Osteens are not even Christians! So why should we take “spiritual advice” from them if we are Christians? I actually have a very deep relationship with the Lord and enjoy conversation with Him often. But, we are to stand up for truth and righteousness and we are called to expose evil and false teachers and attempt to warn our fellow Christians.
In closing, I am highly skeptical of any “church” with more than 2,000 people who attend. Christianity is not supposed to be appealing to the majority of people.
The Osteens were on here in the news, and on this web-site not to long ago they were having a Christain get together in a Texas Stadium, and the seats up front were being sold for $900.00 plus dollars. The Gospel is FREE, andthe GOOD NEWS is FREE. Billy Graham had StadiumS to where he spoke, and he didn’t charge any of those people to hear the Gospel Neither did JESUS. My response to remarks made by Victoria Osteen is to wonder why so many people are shocked by what she said. Joel Osteen has been preaching, teaching and pounding the very same thing into the heads of those who will listen to him for years. He and Victoria have certainly been having what they think is their “best life now” using the money they have made selling the “make your ‘own-self’ happy and that will make God happy” gospel. (Say, just where does one find that in the old/not new King James Bible?)
I have never once heard Joel Osteen (and certainly not Victoria) proclaim the fact that all of us are sinners, but God is holy so we must be reconciled to Him by the Savior He sent to do just that. Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, IS the Savior, that there is a Heaven to be gained and a Hell to shun.
Jesus Christ spoke in detail describing the reality of Hell and that He came so that, through faith in His perfect sacrifice on the cross of Calvary, we can escape such a horrible, eternal destination and, instead, have eternal life with Him. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him (to Thomas)I AM the way, the truth and the life: no man (no one) cometh unto the Father but by Me.”
When Larry King interviewed Osteen, he asked him if Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Now, here’s Joel’s chance to preach the Gospel to millions of secular people world-wide and he says things (in an ultra angelically sweet, gentle, loving voice)like: I don’t know about that; I mean, God is loving, and I just want to tell everyone about His love; I don’t know about people of other faiths – they probably know God in their own way….and on and on.
He was given the opportunity to proclaim to millions of people that, yes, Jesus Christ is exactly Who He said He is. Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh to bare our sins upon Himself – that He Who knew no sin (was sinless) bore our sins for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus – that through His death, burial and resurrection, He is the victor over death, Hell and the grave.
So, if Joel’s wife is confused about what really “makes God happy,” just multiply that by the hundreds of thousands or millions of people who listen to him instead of being Bereans and reading their Bibles “to see if those things be so.”
I was going to comment on Mr. Greenwood’s remarks but got carried away by the whole Victoria/Joel Osteen debacle. Only this for Mr. Greenwood – Using man’s ideas, interpretations, theories, “discoveries” as the truth is truly allowing oneself to be led along by the blind – you know, the blind leading the blind equals they both fall into the ditch…
Here’s just one for instance: Francis Crick, the extremely bright individual who was credited (along with Watson) for the discovery of the DNA molecule, was brought face to face with the fact that everything in the world was made by design. Ergo, there has to be a Designer. Crick was not willing to face the fact that the Designer and Creator is the Almighty God of the Bible, Who alone is the Creator, Who is absolutely perfect in all of His ways and judgments, and before Whom we all will stand either clothed in the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ or as unsaved sinners.
Dr. Crick, (remember now, he was very bright, he helped discover the DNA molecule), decides that what really happened is… you guessed it! Directed Panspermia! That’s right, to a learned, brainy scientist, it made perfect sense that aliens (as they were flying over the earth billions of years ago)dumped their garbage out of their craft and it landed on planet Earth. There were cells from living things in that garbage (you know like plant cells, maybe some animal cells because they were probably omnivorous)and those cells (billions upon billions of years ago) somehow began to multiply and join together into a type of soup (primordial to be exact). My personal understanding, from what I have previously heard and read – is that the “strong delusion” will be sent from “the LORD GOD” to all those that have heard – but have rejected “the gospel of Jesus Christ”.
This is similar to what “the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” did with Pharaoh. First Pharaoh hardened his heart – than there was a point that Pharaoh had so hardened his heart that “the LORD” “hardened his heart”.

I can offer some input’Read Genesis 1:28, note ‘replentish’, then Genesis 6:2,note sons of God, then Ephesians 6:12 note powers in high places, in many other verses one can find demons clothing themselves in ‘light’ coming from the sky, satan copies Gods plan and corrupts that plan offering the opposite, one must choose’.

I went to this big Easter Celebration Service a church held at a big community center…I almost fell out of my seat when they aired a message from Joel Olsteen. Then they sang extremely drawn out, ridiculously loud and obnoxious praise music before the minister delivered a shallow generic message to the gathered crowd.
I apologized all the way home, to my children, for the horrible experience… Today's "worship" of God, does not feel real…it feels induced…like a drug.
Unless your pastor is putting the fear of God in you, and teaching you how to prepare your hearts, souls and homes for these end times we have entered… you may be worshipping in the house of the world, and not of God.

There are several well known ‘Pastors’ that were foundationally correct a couple of years ago – but not now.

Tribulation will be in the middle east. The US will be a has been nation, mostly because of their hatred for Israel. Very few, if any, preachers worry about losing their tax exemption rather then telling the truth. I used to be caught up in all the excitement that preachers falsely teach about most subjects. After I learned how to rightly divide Gods word, things really opened up to an exciting time with the Lord. There is no more fear of anything to come, whenever it comes, and it will be in Gods timeframe not some silly preachers timeframe. My suggestion to Christians is to study to show yourself approved and not follow the masses. There is so much legalism around today it is funny. Christians try to follow books that are written to Jews thinking they will be in Gods favor and most of them are miserable because they continually fail. We live in the most exciting time in the history of the world. As for me, I am looking for his Appearing, not the Jewish rapture.

Tribulation is not world wide. If you apply the passages to Who? Where? When? What? Why? and then Apply you will get a better understanding of Scripture. This concept has been around since 1600 AD, where everything else came about in the 1800’s. Today preachers use this to make a lot of money on books and tapes as they know the majority will take there word for it and not study for themselves.
Tribulation will be world-wide, it says in Revelation.

The end of days are upon us, and people like the Osteens, and other prosperity preachers were foretold in the Word of God.
They only benefit themselves, and teach others to think only of themselves (your best life now).
This is not in any way what God would want for the last days, to edify the church.
The day will come upon them unawares!

Old Testament Prophecy
The crucifixion, like many other aspects of the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, was foretold in Scripture long before the Messiah’s birth. Isaiah 53 describes at length the “Man of sorrows” who would become “despised,” “stricken by God,” and “pierced for our transgressions,” even though “He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.” The destiny of the Messiah, as clearly depicted in this passage, is to “[bear] the sin of many, and [make] intercession for the transgressors” ( Isa. 53:12). The opening verse is an exact rendition of some of Christ’s words on the cross: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Similarly, the taunts of the crowd, specifically those of the chief priests and scribes recorded in Matthew 27:43, are also described in verses 7 and 8 of Psalm 22. It is also predicted that Christ’s robe will be appropriated by his executioners: “They divide my garments among them, and cast lots for my clothing.” (Ps. 22:18). As Christians, it is not our job to convict and be judgmental. I myself may not be 100% clear all the time to everyone and I have been judged by many because of misunderstandings ever though I have always meant well and had good intentions… do not judge her or you will be judged for your very own actions! She more than likely meant well and its not our place to act and say that she didn't.

Joel Osteen is a motivational speaker. He centers his message on the SELF and not entirely on God. His wife is very aware of this "Selfish message". It is true that in Matthew 7:1 we are told not to judge with condemnation. but 15 verses later in Matthew 7:15 we are instructed to judge for identification.

As I write this, I have just awakened from what I believe to be a vision the Lord has given to me of what is to come very soon. I know for certain this was not a dream.

Then, I look up into the sky and I see something like a river flowing up into the sky. This river is made up of countless thousands of people being taken up. I truly believe that this vision is a message to me that it is time for me, for all of us, to repent and turn away from sin.

The reason some “pretty heavy hitting Christian writers” are taking the time to address this is because Victoria Osteen is so high profile. She and her husband have a lot of influence over a lot of people and are leading many through the “broad gate.”
The Osteens are, of course, the blind leading the blind or they would be preaching the way of salvation to the lost.
This is, in fact, what makes God happy: He sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who was willing to “become flesh and dwell among us” and bear our sins on the cross of Calvary so that we don’t have to die and go to Hell. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth (true, repenting belief) in Him might not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 and He “is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
The Osteens are part of a large group of high profile individuals (Kenneth Copeland, et al) who choose to “make merchandise” of people rather than preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is not a bit of “nothing.” This is heresy of the worst kind.

What you don’t get is that a true born-again person will NOT leave Him. Not for long anyway. You either get back inline, or God gets your attention. Just try!!! The Holy Spirit resides within us, not somewhere around us. He’s with us always, from the time we accepted Jesus Christ until we die. Not a one of us on this earth is a perfect person. Only Jesus filled those shoes!!

I can wholeheartedly agree with this. You may wander off a little but quickly the Holy Spirit gets your attention and draws you back. Not one is perfect even after coming to Jesus as your Savior.
The screw ups are part of growth and truly knowing the Lord and His love for you.
There are seasons in a Christians life. All different but a common thread runs in those seasons for all of us.
The spirit bears witness with the Spirit. These two are not from the God of the Bible, but the god of this world, Satan. They teach prosperity which has nothing to do with Jesus, the Bible, the Church or sound doctrine. Only the Lord can expose them and deal with them and He will at the proper time. He tells us to let the wheat and tares grow together so we have to do as He says. Ultimately and eventually the false teachers and those who distort the truth for their own gain will be judged and sentenced. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord and follow the Lamb where ever He goes. Come Lord Jesus.
Good intentions is not going to lead you to heaven. The Osteens don't want to preach or talk about sin because this will cause less people to attend their church, therefore, less money is coming into their pockets. People now days don't want to hear the truth that they are sinners and need of a Savior. No one wants to hear that. If doing good would take us to heaven, then only the rich will get there because they can do more with money then us poor people. Thank God that Jesus came to seek and to save those who are lost. But if no one tells a person that he is lost, how then will they know that they need to be saved? Osteens knows this, but will not tell his followers of it. God have mercy on him.

It has all been wonderfully exciting to me because I was raised to believe, study and take the KJV Bible very, very seriously. What God says in His Word He will do – He does – And He does it when and how He wants to in His perfection, lovingkindness, righteousness and judgment.
The one prophecy that has been mind-numbing for me and more upsetting than any other last days prophecy is the Apostasy of the church. Believe me, the societal condoning, even celebrating of perversion has been and is really hard to see happening, but to watch a vast number of Christians/Church-Goers become people “who will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap unto themselves teachers having itching ears (ears that long to hear what makes them comfortable in their sin) “You can have your best life now because, when you are happy that makes God happy….,” from the truth and shall be turned unto fables.
There’s Rob Bell and the rest of the Emergent Church preaching “Love Wins” (no, I didn’t read the book – I read the KJV Bible). So, “love wins” and that means there’s no Hell and that means the Holy Bible (66 books written by 40 men over thousands of years under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) is wrong……To me, this is the hardest last days prophecy to watch unfold.
There is everything calling itself “church” from prosperity hawkers to an acceptance of Unitarian Universalist (I’m OK. You’re OK) conglomeration of beliefs/religions.
That’s why what Victoria, Joel, Kenneth Copeland, Rick Warren, Rob Bell, Brian McLaren, the poor, misguided fellow who wrote “The Shack”, (the list is too long to go on) are the people who are in charge of the Apostate Church. This “church” already has no problem with a global, one world “church” because they have no compass, no plumb line, no Holy Bible. They simply make up the rules (or don’t have rules – except the rule about not saying that Jesus Christ is the one and only way to the Father)as they go. Whatever people want to hear is what they are “preaching/teaching”.
Because I take the whole Bible seriously and have studied it (continue to study it every day) comparing verse to verse and not singling verses out of context, I do not believe blood-washed Christians (that’s really the only kind of Christian there is) will have the wrath of God poured out on us when He pours out His wrath during the Tribulation. 11 Thess. 2:7 tells us that “he that letteth (restrains/hinders/withholds – the Church of the Living God will be removed from the earth)will be taken out of the way, then will that Wicked (Antichrist) be revealed…” 1 Thess. 4:17-18 tells us “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them (the dead in Christ will rise first in their glorified bodies)in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort ye one another with these words.” “Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13 “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thess. 5:9
There are so many Scriptures which, if taken in context, which is the only way to “rightly divide the word of truth”, tell us that the body of Christ, the true Church has the Marriage Supper of the Lamb waiting for her – not the wrath of God wrath poured out on her along with the unbelieving world.
It is not a doctrine essential to salvation, of course, but knowing this to be our blessed hope, certainly is a comfort to me during these final minutes and seconds of time as unrepentant and unregenerate man/woman refuses to even retain God in his/her knowledge. When the Rapture (rapturo in Latin/Harpotzo in Greek) of the true Church happens there will be no more presence of the Holy Spirit indwelling those He has washed and made His Own to witness to them, and live the life of a real Christian before them.
Those who come to the Lord Jesus in repentance after the harpotzo (Greek for catching up), rapturo (Hebrew for catching up), Rapture of the blood-washed believers in Jesus Christ, will be Tribulation Saints. They will be saved by “the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives even unto death.” Rev. 12:11

In Genesis Chapter 17, when Abram was 99 years old,the Lord God spoke to him. The Lord God changed Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s name to Sarah. He told Abraham to walk before him and to be perfect (have faith in God’s promises).
The Lord promised to make Abraham the father of many nations and all of the land of Canaan to be given to Abraham and Sarah’s seed as an everlasting (never, ever ending) promise to Abraham and his descendants through Isaac, Abraham and Sarah’s son, Isaac and his descendants.
The Lord gave the measurements of this land in Genesis 13:17, Genesis 18: 15-21, and Ezekiel 47:18. This specifies where the land is, that it is a physical place and that it has been given by the Lord God to the nation and people of Israel in perpetuity (forever and ever).
Genesis 25:19-34 tells us that Isaac and his wife, Rebekah, had twins – one they named Jacob and the other Esau. To make the story short (but please read it for yourself), Esau “hated” his birthright. He was the first of the twins to be born so he had the birthright of a first born son. Esau “sold his birthright” to his brother, Jacob, for bread and a “pottage of lentils”.
Genesis 26:24 the Lord God tells Jacob, “…I am the God of thy father, Abraham,: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and will multiply thy seed for My servant, Abraham’s sake.”
Genesis 32:28, the Lord God lets Jacob know he will be called Israel. That’s when the nation which came out of Abraham and his descendants was given the name Israel by the Lord.
Genesis 46:8 The names of the 12 sons (twelve tribes of Israel)- Rueben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph and Benjamin.
The Lord God has miraculously (to say the very least) kept His Chosen People very much alive and present all of these thousands of years in spite of Satan’s attempts to wipe them off the face of the map – just as many today still desire to do.
Israel is referred to as the Lord’s “Chosen People” because it was through them the Lord would show to the world over, and over again that HE IS GOD “and there is none other”, even more important than that, He had chosen Israel to bring His “only begotten Son” into the world through Mary who was of the tribe of Judah – This was an utterly holy event because Mary was a virgin and the Holy Spirit “overshadowed” her and she conceived the Lord Jesus Christ).
I have only pointed to a very few reasons to believe that the Jews, Israel, are who the Bible (KJV) says they are and why they exist.
Genesis 36: vs. 1, vs. 8, vs. 9 (and many, many other verses) tell us that, “Esau is Edom.” The Lord REALLY wants us to know who the Edomites are. Amos 1:11 is just one of many placed in the Bible where the Lord tells us about Esau’s/Edom’s ancient hatred against Israel. “…because he did pursue his brother (Jacob/Israel) with the sword, did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever.”
So, Esau/Edom CANNOT be Jacob/Israel/the Jews.

Titus Flavius Josephus, a 1st century AD Roman-Jewish historian, wrote in his “Antiquities of the Jews” how in the 2nd century BC, Edom [called Idumea by the Greeks/Romans] lost a war to Israel. Then the Prince/High Priest of Israel Hyrcanus [he was both prince and high priest] allowed the Edomites to stay in the Kingdom of Israel if they converted, which they did en masse.
Per Josephus, after that the Edomites became “jews.”
No one can truly understand the New Testament without understanding both the Old Testament and Old Testament history. Many symbols in the book of Revelation refer to the history of Old Testament times. Rev 2:9 and Rev 3:9 for example, refer to deceivers who say they are Jews but are not but are the synagogue of satan. God hated Esau and Edom was under God’s curse.
King Herod [who the Romans placed in power] was a descendant of Edomite-jews. This explains why he was so ruthless in trying to murder the Christ child, Israel’s Messiah.

Israel is just as lost as the rest of the world is. The whole world has fallen for the lie that homosexuality and every other kind of activity that the Lord God hates is “courageous” to do and admit to doing. The president of the United States and his wife have chosen to lift this behavior up as something not only normal, but something to celebrate, and honor. Tolerating it isn’t enough. No, we must wish it on our own sons and daughters so they can be in such a wonderfully elite group. Regarding the “judgment” argument – 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved (pleasing to God) unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing (understanding) the word of truth.” Paul is telling Timothy to study the Word of God (the Tenach and Paul’s letters, etc.) very diligently and carefully so he will understand what the Lord wants him (Timothy) and us (the Church) to do.
The Bible tells us how to know someone who professes to be a Christian from someone who does not profess to be a Christian. We are also told, “by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7:17 “Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves (greedy for the things of this world). Ye shall know them by their fruits….Every good tree bringteth forth good fruit but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit…Therefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.
Interpretation – We are called to be fruit inspectors. That is NOT to judge anyone’s heart. It is rather to be discerning as to what we accept as in accordance with the Word of God – the Holy Bible (KJV for me).
If we are going to just be lazy about our Christian walk and decide that, since we “can’t judge,” why should we take any kind of stand at all, then we are totally failing in what our Savior has called us to do. It was Jesus Christ Who is speaking in Matthew 7:17. He expects us to take in not just “milk” of salvation, but to chew on and take in the “meat” of His Word.
Even if one only understands the “milk,” which is – All of us are sinners – All of us need to be saved by repenting and receiving the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, one can discern that people like the Osteens and so many others are NOT even preaching our need to be saved and how to be saved. That’s NOT judging. That’s just not being stupid. We aren’t called to be stupid. Matt. 10:16 “Behold, I sent you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye, therefore as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”
Even a baby Christian can know how to determine the “good fruit” from the “corrupt (rotten) fruit” if he/she reads the Word of God seriously and prayerfully on a daily basis. Yes, on a daily basis. How far can our bodies get on little or no physical food? Not far and not well. The same thing applies to our Born Again spirits. We must have a strong, healthy, vibrant understanding of the Word of God! Of all of the times this earth has seen, this is the time when there is more deception, doctrines of demons – from the very pit of Hell, than there have ever been.
Books written by fine or not fine pastors, preachers, teachers OR paraphrases of the Bible, i.e. “The Message”, et al, will not give a Christian what he/she needs to grow up in the Lord and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

You can't judge a person's heart but the Elders can judge what they see in order to keep the congregation clean..If you have a bad apple it needs to be plucked away from the good apples so as it doesn't spoil the others in the congregation.
In the end let the congregation of Lakewood judge what as said or not said. And decide how to handle. They will likely support her and some may leave and seek a place where they can grow and learn much more in depth view and study of scripture.
Many will not be satisfied and the Holy Spirit will cause a thirst for more that cannot be met in a Lakewood type church.
This may be happening to do just that…..

I certainly agree with you about some Edomites converting and/or staying in the land the Lord gave to Israel. Herod is a case in point for sure and that is one of the reasons the Romans placed him in charge, the Jews hated him and why he tried to destroy the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord knows every person’s heart, of course, so I’m not sure it’s worth worrying about. He desires to save every one of us whether “Jew, Gentile, or Scythian” “servant, master,” whatever.
He is working out His Will still in and through His people, Israel. What He promised to Abraham, that He will do! It’s so wonderful that no matter how rebellious any of us have been, He will accept us when we repent and surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ.
They, Israel, “will look upon Him Whom they pierced and mourn for Him as for an only son.” I am looking so forward to that day when Israel, as an entire nation, receives the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah!! What a day that will be!!

Barbara Montgomery Carter, you may want to read 1st Corinthians 5:12-13 in addition to 2nd Timothy 4:1-2, 1st Peter 3:15, the whole book of Jude, I could go on. The judge not thing is the most misunderstood and miss quoted verse in the bible.

I heard something similar to this remark decades ago. What it simply means is that the Lord God does not benefit so much from worship as that we are the ones that He is benefitting. He "owns the cattle on a thousand hills" Psalm 50:10. We receive grace through worship. You become what you worship – worshipping the Lord, you become more like Him. Worship money, well, you become self-centered. Focus on the Living God, trust Him. Psalm 37, 3 and 4: Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 92 "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night"
And it continues about workers of iniquity and the blessings of worshiping God. The end of the Psalm ends like this: The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him." I believe it is evident that God loves and cares for those that truly love and praise Him. It's so clearly stated, that it is undeniable.
Is Joel a "false prophet" because he will not judge whether people are going to hell or not? Or, that he wrote a few books that say, God will bring you through because He loves you and focus your life on the loving God? I did a Google search of Joel Osteen heresy and found a lot of Calvinist Election things, that he encourages people to believe that God is able to provide your needs, and to pray and act that God will answer your prayers. There is condemnation because he lives in an 8M dollar home, too. There is the Tony Robbins and Robert Schuller positivity preaching accusation.
Is God love? Does He care for you? Shouldn't your faith and actions be inline with your walk?
Here is a factoid that was taken from Business Week. They reported the cities that have made the best turnaround after the 2008 crash. The #1 city was Houston! They recovered by 260%!!! Maybe, Christians were praying for their city to "grow like a cedar in Lebanon and flourish in the court of the Lord." I would like it if the judgmental crowd would stop thinking that God cannot make people rich. Abraham, Kings David and Solomon, Nicodemus, and board members from every Christian University are rich. That doesn't imply that God's will for you includes a million in the bank, but God's people are diverse. There are pastors in Iran, there are teachers in Korea, missionaries in Los Angeles, and all the apostles (save John) that were martyred, and they are all in the will of God. But, they all were sent by faithful servants that had the financial means to send them. Romans 10:14-15 states, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are SENT (Caps mine)? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
If you must consume your time seeking how to label people heretics, I contend that it would be better for you to spend time in prayer, study, and visiting the sick, imprisoned, feeding the poor, and caring for widows. I believe, that if you focused on doing God's will, your blessings would bring you great, great joy and fulfillment.
Barbara, read the Bible…..in context, not just selective scriptures. We are to hold our pastors and teachers to a higher standard than others. These teachers are responsible in leading people the cross, not to making themselves Happy, but content in the wholeness of God's forgiveness and righteousness.

We as members of the church have the priviledge and responsibility to judge according to the leading of the Spirit of God who lives in all true believers. So in reality, it is the Spirit who is judging through the Members of the Body. Give me the verse in scripture that says that the members of Christ have the gift of being a motivational speaker. We are to speak truth in love for the building up of the Body of Christ, we are admonished throughtout the NT that the self is to be denied. Romans 6::6….Knowing this that our old man has been crucified with Christ. Luke 9:23….Jesus said to his dicisples, If anyone wants to come after Me, let him DENY HIMSELF, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. Phil 3:3….For we are the circumcision, the ones who serve by the SPIRIT of GOD and boast in CHRIST JESUS and HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH. No place for the self in the Body of Christ, the Body of Christ is just Christ. Ephesians 4:4-6
