United Nations Planning To Pass Global Internet Tax
U.S. Ambassador Terry Kramer warned on Friday that a proposal to give a United Nations agency more control over the Internet is gaining momentum in other countries. Proposals to expand the U.N.’s International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) authority over the Internet could come up at a treaty conference in Dubai in December. European telecommunications companies are pushing a plan that would create new rules that would allow them to charge more to carry international traffic.
The proposal by the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association could force websites like Google, Facebook and Netflix to pay fees to network operators around the world.
Kramer said the idea of an international Internet fee is “gaining more interest in the African states and also in the Arab states.”
He said the United States delegation to the conference will have to redouble its efforts to convince other countries that the proposal would only stifle innovation and economic growth.
“We support efforts to grow broadband markets—not just divvying a static pie of revenue between operators and governments,” Kramer said in a speech in Washington hosted by the Telecommunications Industry Association.
Democrats and Republicans in the United States are united against proposals to increase international control of the Internet. Congress passed a non-binding resolution earlier this year urging the United States delegation to “promote a global Internet free from government control and preserve and advance the successful multi-stakeholder model that governs the Internet today.”
But Kramer warned that the United States is gaining a reputation of stubbornly opposing any changes to the ITU treaty. He said the United States will have to engage in negotiations with other countries to address their concerns.
He acknowledged that many countries are struggling to secure their networks from hackers and cybercriminals. He said the United States opposes international cybersecurity regulation but supports efforts to help poorer countries expand their ability to combat cyberthreats.
“The U.S. is open to dialogue in ways to make such cooperation more comprehensive, building on work by existing institutions,” he said.
Kramer explained that the United States will not have to sign on to any treaty that it objects to, but he warned that if a majority of countries at the Dubai conference adopt an overly regulatory treaty, it could reshape the open, international nature of the Internet. source – The Hill

Why should the United Nations be allowed to pass an internet tax to people in the United States? Has Obama allowed them to take over all the dutues if the President that he doesn’t know how to do? It is time for him to be replaced and the UN to be kicked out of our country and stop giving them our tax money. Cut them off completely.

We already pay an internet tax…. from our cable and internet providers.

The countries that would approve such a UN takeover of the internet are not concerned with its security; they are the hackers! They are concerned with controlling their citizens! They only want to control the content so they can eliminate the little things, like freedom of speech, freedom of thought…. you know , those bothersome things that cause them trouble. If the U.S. does not stop this exta tax, extra control, extra,,,extra,,,bs…we will have to start watching the skies for the black helicopters. That’s how the UN troops travel when they invade…

W should get rid of the UN.
However, It is probably the instrument that sets up conditions for the Anti-Christ. So it is also a good indicator as to the time of his appearence.
Ron Paul’s philosoph ywould have gotten us out of the UN and untangled US from the world mess!
But it looks like the 47% of Americans plus all of the illegalls don’t really care as long as they get that government check.
Republicans are content with power, they don’t care if it is socialism or communism as long as their man is in charge.
Only the Tea Party has demonstrated a truly patriotic spirit and a desire to uphold the Constitution. But in maost cases they bowed to the power of the Republican machine.
So, the UN will continue to assume and assert power over all of the people of the world.

Once the UN achieves a revenue system such as the ability to tax worldwide, it will tax every thing and every action (like the US does). And there will be no stopping it!

I say if this passes then sites such as Google, Facebook and Netflix should just shut off access to the rest of the world. European companies can build their own Google, Facebook and Netflix. If these telecommunications companies don’t think they’re getting enough money then they can charge more for their internet, we don’t need an extra tax for these huge companies. It’s just going to hurt our economy more and in turn hurt the world economy. It doesn’t take a genius to see all of this

Insult to injury. AFRICA…gimmie a break. As if the poorest countries can afford it . Companies would need to hide any tax because I would absolutely refuse to pay it in any form whatsoever otherwise. PERMINENTLY. People don’t understand as it is, that the cashless green based society is coming as the mark of the beast system. One will have to voluntarily agree to the mark, in order to buy or sell anything.

What a cheat.
“According to a United Nations Membership Assessment Report for 2009, the United States paid membership dues of $62,302,548, or approximately 22 percent of the U.N. annual budget for 2010. The European Union, Japan, and the USA cumulatively pay 80 percent of the total U.N. annual budget.”

Where do I buy 2 inch thick styrofoam in Singapore. Somewhere in the North East Area. Also, please don’t tell me hardware store or something like that but rather a reliable store name. I been to Art Friend in Bras Basah but their foam boards are too thin. I am trying to make diorama pieces by myself and require the styrofoam for a hill construction..
