A very specific request for pocket Bibles in Spanish comes from Chaplain Martinez at the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility In Texas

Last summer, Chaplain Eric from the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility In Texas reached out to us in need of Bibles in English and in Spanish, and we were more than happy to meet that request for him. Now, Chap has again reached out with a more specific need, Bibles in Spanish but they have to be small, pocket size, or the inmates will not be allowed to take their Bible with them when they are moved out of Willacy. Jesus came to set the captives free, that’s our mission.

“And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.” Isaiah 24:22 (KJB)

As Americans, we all have an opinion on immigration, legal and illegal, with people coming across our southern border with Mexico, I get that. But as Christians there can be no debate, all those immigrants are precious souls before the Lord in need of salvation. So when we have an opportunity to send Bibles directly into detention centers housing immigrants, what a blessing that is! Make no mistake, there are plenty of American citizens in that jail as well, and we must reach them, too.

Jails all over America tell us the same thing, they desperately need Bibles but no one is offering them. They are prisoners of hope waiting for the word of God

We got an email the other day from Angela the detention officer over at the Tulsa Municipal Jail, and she wrote with one of the saddest stories we’ve received. She says “We are a smaller facility; short term stays for misdemeanors only. We house no more than 80 inmates at a time, mostly homeless. When I started working here, we had very few bibles, we are now down to maybe one whole bible. Many inmates ask for a bible while they stay here. It breaks my heart when I can’t make that available to them. I have tried reaching out for bibles but haven’t had much luck. If you would be willing to send some it would very much help the inmates that pass through our facility.”

“Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;” Zechariah 9:12 (KJB)

Now, I don’t know what’s sadder, 80 inmates have to share just one Bible, or no other Bible sending ministry being willing to supply them. Just as I was mediating on that, I got this email from Chaplain Terry at the Franklin County Regional Jail. “I have been buying Bibles here for the inmates as much as I can myself but i am overwhelmed by the response of those that still need their own bible and cant keep up. The jail doesn’t provide a salary for bibles so I really need help with getting some bibles in English and Spanish.” I don’t know why it is, but God seems to have raised Bibles Behind Bars up to supply Bibles and books in places where no one else is willing to go and help, it is truly a sacred mission. As you enjoy Thanksgiving on Thursday with your friends and family, will you say a silent prayer for all the inmates behind bars who need God’s preserved word? Florida State Prison, ADA County Jail and Harris County Jail are just 3 of the latest requests for King James Bibles that we’ve received just this week

Yesterday at the Bookstore, we had a wonderful visit from Chaplain Bob from the Rock of Ages Jail Ministry in Texas, that’s him shown with me in the top photo. You may recall that a little while ago, we sent a massive load of Bibles to the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas that he had requested. As it turns out, Chaplain Bob happened to be in town and wanted to stop by and say ‘thank you’ for all the Bibles we sent , and to make a new and much-needed request for 500 Spanish Bibles.

“For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.” Psalm 69:33 (KJB)

In addition to that, we also received email requests for Bibles from Chaplain Wynn at Florida State Prison in Raiford, and from Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho, Bibles that will be distributed at the ADA County Jail in Boise. They told me that Dr. Ruckman had preached many times at Treasure Valley, and they very much wanted the inmates they minister to to have a copy of the Ruckman Reference Bible. The RRBs cost about three times more than the regular KJVs, but when they told me of their connection to Doc, we couldn’t say no. They are sending in a love offering to help with the cost. All in all, another boatload of Bibles need to be sent out, and we need you to help us to do it!
