Colorado Pot Culture Creates The ‘Stoner Jesus Bible Study’ Heresy

Newest member JeTaun Brown says reading the Bible stoned enables people to relax and focus. She says, “I think you have a deeper thought process which makes you better understand.”

People in a Bible study group in Centennial, Colorado say they get high to better reach the almighty. They are called the Stoner Jesus Bible Study and they pass on Bible verses and joints

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: First off, the idea that Jesus was a “stoner” or got high or drunk in any way is a satanic thought. The Bible says He was “in all points tempted” like we are – but – without sin. Since you cannot smoke pot and be sober at the same time, the 420 life it is a violation of multiple Biblical commandments. If you’re saved, Jesus loves you in spite of your sins, but at no point does He ever confirm you in your sins. The “Stoner Jesus Bible Study” is absolute living proof that the last Church in the end times would be hopelessly confused, self-focused and luke warm. Colorado stoners, prepared to be spewed out.

Group member Mia Williams says, “We are just a bunch of stoners that come together and learn about Jesus and the Word of God.” Longtime member Mark Button says the group has “really good spiritual conversations in this setting. We get really deep; deeper than I have ever gotten before. It’s the perfect setting.”

The “Tree of Sin” may be a lesson in the Bible, but this Bible study group views the marijuana plant as a blessing. For Button, weed helped pull him closer to God and away from an addiction.

“God is what got me through that. Thanks to him, I’ve been sober eight years. I don’t drink or do hard drugs anymore. I do smoke marijuana sometimes,” Button said.

Pastor Greg leads the group in prayer and says they all believe in worshipping outside of church. They are all Christians as well as professionals or students. They admit there is a stigma attached to marijuana, but they also say some Bible studies offer wine and cheese, so they don’t understand the difference. One member says, “Marijuana has less calories and no one leaves drunk!”

Newest member JeTaun Brown says reading the Bible stoned enables people to relax and focus. She says, “I think you have a deeper thought process which makes you better understand.”

Button, who has always been a devout Christian, says he has heard the word of God “over and over and it never clicked (and now) it clicks.”

They study various sections of the Bible which they say have a direct link to smoking out. They say pot smokers are open-minded people and God’s word is also for open-minded people. For example, Pastor Greg says the Beatitudes teach the group “to be kind and loving and have mercy on other people; not to be judgmental and that’s why we like the 4/20 crowd because we are open minded.” source

  • This is sick. This is wicked. Sin is forgotten and peace, “love” and unity is elevated above the cross. We need to embrace sin, repentance and the cross of Christ:

    • Sis

I don’t think they are calling Jesus a stoner. That name refers to the people in the group.

  • Alicia

What next? Bible studies in the nude. They are more open minded? “Marijuana has less calories and no one leaves drunk!”-a low fat Bible study. Am sure they skip over Bible verses that would make them feel uncomfortable. After all they want to relax & stay focused.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

    • Danae

      Love your comment, Alicia…

  • These crazy stoners will be inhaling Satan’s farts in hell for all eternity.

    • Sis

I think it’s due to the instant judgement of people like you see here in the comment thread that these people have avoided church in the first place.

  • MJ

    … I got nothing.

Seriously. This is so preposterous that I can’t articulate an appropriate response. “It helps us reach a deeper understanding of God’s Word!” Really?! Wow! It’s so deep that it caused you to miss the repeated warnings to NOT DO STUFF LIKE THAT!!!

I think there’s a difference between a person’s honest struggle with sin and people blatantly disregarding God’s warnings without remorse. And here we have a group of people ignorning His Word whilst simultaneously reading it.

  • Sam Fox

These people are out to lunch. Pot is NOT the Holy Spirit. If people think they can ‘get closer to God’ this way they are 180′ off.

I ran into some of this thinking online. They say that khaneh bosm was an ingredient in the anointing oil used in the OT Temple. So they say that ‘cannabis is ok’ to use in their meetings. I guess they forgot about where Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law before setting it aside. A law that was never given to gentiles in the first place.

Jesus never used any substances or we would have been told in scripture. If what this ‘church’ does was scriptural, or Jesus &/or His followers did as they do, we would know if such use was Biblically legitimate. It is NOT! He most likely had wine, but the wine of the day was very low in alcohol content. Paul said use a ‘little wine’ & rebuked those who got drunk.

There is no example of any one in the NT [or the OT for that matter] for using any kind of substance to augment their spiritual life or use of cannabis or any other substance in their worship & fellowship or to ‘get closer to God’. All we need is the Holy Spirit. If HE doesn’t do it for any anyone, it’s just not going to ‘get done’.

I believe in medical use of cannabis, it is far safer than Rx drugs. Moderation & a pre-existing medical need as modifiers. The prohibition of cannabis is based on lies, greed, deception & fear based propaganda. WR Hurst wasn’t even after the cannabis people smoke. He was after industrial hemp…

The history of pot prohibition is an example of corruption in govt brought about by a man who deceived Congress & the American public. Cannabis was NOT made illegal because it’s a ‘dangerous drug’. That accusation was made, but never proven. That is because the accusation was false to begin with & Hurst knew it.

Still & all, cannabis has NO NO NO place as a ‘path to God’, nor is it even remotely necessary for a spiritual relationship with Nature’s God. JESUS & His Holy Spirit are the only way for that. THE ONLY WAY! He Himself made that very clear!

  • NinjaOfFaith

Just when you think you’ve heard it all?! Wow.

The great falling away is occurring. Hold onto your faith and don’t let it get corrupted by the world and sin.

  • Tusitala

Dear Jesus, how close I came to perdition. Thank You for having such patience with my wayward life. Sweet Lord, open their eyes and hearts…

  • Jarred

When I was first born again I used to use marijuana while reading the bible but the Lord soon opened my eyes to the deception.

Firstly, when using ANY drug that alters your perception in any way you are allowing a doorway for demons to operate in your life.
Yes, for sure the effects of pot do make you think that you are being led by the Holy Spirit and that you are gaining good understanding of th Word but this is a deception and it is a counter spirit that actually leads you in the study.

Ask them and you will definitely find some really warped theology.

I can testify thar on at least 5 occasions in that early time just after I was born again and I got high and prayed and where I would normally be high for at least 3-4 hours, within the first 3 minutes or so the Lord brought me completely out of being high. And so the Lord showed me in that way that it wasn’t His will for me to be doing that and He has helped me to be completely free of weed dependancy.

Praise Jesus for His faithfulness. Don’t be deceived, drugs will only open you up to spiritual deception and oppression that God does not desire for you.

    • Thanks for sharing your personal experience Jarred. God bless you

    • fatbully

Thanks Jarred, it does open a doorway for demons. So does alcohol use. No place for any of that in a Christian’s life. Not one iota!! Thank God for His miraculous goodness in washing the effects of the marijuana out of your system those times. I know people who were completely drunk that He has miraculously made sober, also then leading them to never touch the stuff again. Thank you for your testimony. It is spiritual deception and destruction for any who participate. Also, some people are just plain stubborn and love their sin. They do need their eyes opened up.

This is definately wrong for people to be abusing a substance this way. The holy spirit helps people understand the word of God. NOT a substance. Abusing something to alter your mind is NOT right! I would like to know how believers view medicinal use of Marijuana by those who suffer from Epilepsy, Crohns disease, and cancer. Geoffrey if you could respond to my question it would be greatly appreciated 🙂 These diseases have been proven to be greatly helped by people using this natural God made herb. Do believers condemn these people as well? Before big pharma came on the scene with all of their chemical made drugs that have horrific side affects (Don’t get me wrong not all are bad, but a lot are) People used Marijuana to treat all kinds of pain, and diseases. That seems to have been completely forgotten, and people treat this herb like it is the most evil thing around. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with people using Marijuana to just get high, or claim it brings them closer to God, but to totally demonize this stuff is insensitive to those who greatly benefit from it’s medicinal properties. My Dad used medical marijuana when he was dying of brain cancer, and it helped him greatly with his appetite, and helped him sleep. Was that evil of him to do??? A lot of people abuse the legal pharmaceutical drugs as well, and that is not right either. I wonder how many Christians were using medicinal marijuana before big pharma came along??? What do you think Geoffrey? Would like your insight?

in history haven’t there been cults that had sex as a part of their ‘christian’ church, drunken celebrations in other cults, now dope smoking…seeking to remain in and please the flesh people will come to all sorts of justifications for it.
The word of God say’s mortify the flesh, not feed it.

notice, they study the portions especially which they think approve of their desires, and so do the replacement theologies’ peoples and the saved by law peoples and the prosperity above all peoples and the….they hold to portions and toss out the portions that don’t fit their desires, that don’t tickle the ears.

also with drunkenness, the bible calls it sin when He say’s do not be drunk but also dissipation is used,..a good study, what are the signs of dissipation and what’s it mean and more..the evidence is clear, sin of stoned or drunk dissipation weakness is NOT the way.

I see that many cities all over the globe and here are legalizing dope, calling of sin as if good, another step in making things ready for that man of sin when he arrives.

  • @ CM

I don’t think that there is anything wrong with people being
treated medically with properties extracted from marijuana,
their illness dictates that only certain drugs can alleviate their
condition and pain. I have read that some children who have
certain nerve diseases can benefit from the oil that is extracted
from marijuana but this is treated in a professional way and
the marijuana is grown in strict medical conditions registered
    by government.

Having said that, these people that Geoffrey are referring to in
this article are a disgrace ! Fumbling through scriptures stoned
while reading the Word of God and claiming to have insight ??
That is the purpose of the Holy Spirit as you have stated CM.

    John 14:26(KJV)

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Smoking dope may be legal where these people live, but that
does not make it right in what they are doing !! I also don’t
advocate drinking alcohol while in a study group, I mean what
are we teaching new converts or children ? What do we say to
them if they decide, – if it’s OK for you to get stoned or drink,
then you shouldn’t mind if we take our own desired drugs or
alcohol content, it’s all the same right, this is their method of
    reasoning isn’t it ??

It’s just alllllll wrong ! We should study the Word of God in
respect and devotion diligently seeking the truth that the Holy
Spirit will lead us into !!

My personal thoughts on this subject !

    • cm

Amen Mike. I appreciate your wise insight, and I completely agree with you. Thank you for replying to my comment.

  • Lj

He who is without sin cast the 1st stone! You people act as though you have never come to a bible study after lying or havent lusted after some man or woman right there in the bible study with you. We all come short, none of these stoners are your servants who are you to judge them? I used to be a smoker, and Im not more saved now than I was then, I still need grace for being violent and lustful. How dare we now look back after being delivered from a few things and condem a less mature brother or sister. Shame on you

    • I think you miss the point. We all struggle after salvation with issues, but the people in this story are saying that it’s actually ok to be doing what they’re doing, and it’s not. They have given up the struggle, and that’s just sad.

    • Sis

Oh thank you for your considered response. This group has healed more people with the love of Jesus than anything I’ve ever seen! We love His word and to assume that’s an abuse of the herb is a HUGE assumption by some far too quick to pass judgement.

  • Lj

These people are studying scripture if the Lord needs them to not smoke while doing so HE will stop them. Just like he’ll stop you from coveting (or whatever your thorn is ) while you study. Back off the stoners, we all need grace

  • @ Lj

These people aren’t asking to be delivered from dope, they enjoy it so much
they have integrated pot smoking into their bible study ! We all sin, but we
don’t all go round condoning the sins that we do as OK !

  • Lj

I see your point clearly Geoffrey, Your saying “those of you wicked enough to enjoy smoking pot dont deserve the same grace as us that hid our sin more efficiently”. My point is, your view is as sick as a planned parenthood doctors’. If Jesus gave them this much faith that they could come as they are is he not faithful to see them through til the end? Maybe they dont see it as sin. I almost believed the lie that I was too wicked to study the bible, but God caused me to love his word so when I didnt know how to not love weed I still studied while high as a kite. And He was faithful, He blessed me, He taught me, he show me great and mighty things, gave me wisdom, knowledge, understanding, all while I was yet in sin. Who cares whats bringing them together to have bible study…_THEIR HAVING BIBLE STUDY!!!

    • NO, my point is that they are looking to the Bible to try and find VALIDATION for their sins, and it just won’t work.

  • Lj

Do you drink coffee? Do you take aspirin ? These too are mind altering drugs do you consider people that drink coffee/take aspirin while studying scripture wicked? Of course you dont because you feel its VALID that one feel more awake or in less pain while studying. My convictions to stop smoking pot came from wanting to obey earthly rule which I came to understand was the will of God, not that I wasnt sober to understand what I was reading. Your calling these believers wicked based on what YOU think marijuana is and its effects. Which you ought not do. There is no scripture that says we cannot smoke marijuana!! Scripture does say be ye sober, & by the definition of sober smoking marijuana does not violate this commandment

  • SmFox

Lj, the issue, to me at least, is that they are using pot to enhance their experience. That is wrong. The Holy Spirit doesn’t need enhancing, He is quite capable of bringing the manifest presence of Jesus to our awareness all by Himself. He needs no help in bringing us to an understanding of the scriptures either. Using ANYTHING in the physical realm to augment, aid or supplement the presence of the Lord or the understanding of His Word can lead to places where Christians don’t need to go.

Just let me say, drugs have no place in church. And should have very little place, except as necessary for health issues, in our lives.

Using cannabis isn’t wrong, it’s what they are using it for. The Book says do all things in moderation, but these people don’t seem to be following that admonition. The US Founders were heavy into Indian hemp. Some used the smoking variety. But that was before the propagandist programming & brainwashing that came out way after their time. They had no programmed preconceptions to scare them into a panic. The deceptive & misleading propaganda came just before, during & after WR Hurst deceived Congress & much of the population into thinking industrial hemp & smoked cannabis were the same thing. Hurst was going after industrial hemp, not the smoked variety. The AMA of the day was against cannabis being made illegal, but the doctor from the AMA was shouted down & wasn’t allowed to say much to Congress. Thanks to the continued deception by tho$e who have a hor$e in the race, cannabis remains illegal.

Rx drugs now kill more than prohibited substances. ‘Legal’ does NOT default to ‘safe’ or less dangerous.

I understand your take on ‘earthly rule’. I take the same position regarding the false premise of ‘cannabis is dangerous’ as the Jewish midwives that wouldn’t obey the edict to kill all male babies. And when Gideon thrashed wheat in a winepress to hide it from the Midianites. An unjust law based on false & misleading info, like cannabis prohibition, can use some civil disobedience from time to time. Unjust laws are why we have jury nullification.

Soon it will be illegal not to take the mark. I have a LOT of ‘civil disobedience’ saved up for when that happens. 🙂 God helping me of course.

  • “Colorado stoners, prepared to be spewed out.” Priceless!

  • Lj

If the groups Idea is “lets smoke to study and understand the bible”, then we argree something is amiss (that would be adding a medium) . However if they are people who happen to smoke and want to study scripture I believe God will bless.

    • Actually, I kinda agree with you. Look, if Christians want to drink alcohol and study they Bible, well, that’s their choice. But if the same people want to form a Bible study group to say that God approves of us getting buzzed then they are entirely in the wrong.

      • Mike

        Hello Geoffrey,

In Gen 1 God mentions the Herb.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Cannabis is a seed bearing herb that produces seed after its own kind; and I find it ironic that the fact it is the male plant which pollinates the female producing seeds. Which means it is created by God and part of this description. God said that it was good. Now I of course know this does not indicate how it is good or why it is good. Just that it is good, however; Man was given dominion over this herb among other things. Dominion revolves around the realm of free will.

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. I often hear Christians and pastors alike describe the hearing of the word likened to that of milk and meat. Also, cannabis can be consumed as it is turned into edibles(meat). Both give you the same results. Could there be any correlation? Thanks.

Side question: Jesus turned water into wine. Drunk, Drunkard: This is the context sobriety is mentioned. Even in today’s culture the word sober or sobriety mainly refers to alcohol and being Drunk or a drunkard. Sleeping it off etc (Noah passed out which led to Ham sodomizing him?) Being Sober indicates being awake and alert. Too much alcohol and you pass out. If you compare that to Cannabis a “drug” (Satans word for Gods herb.) Consume too much cannabis and you just stay more alert and focused. Cannabis is a stimulant and Alcohol is a depressant.

Today the conversation among “Christians” and alcohol is Jesus would not of turned water into wine and served it at a wedding if consuming it was a sin. Rather it is being a drunkard (making it an idol form of worship) where it becomes sin. If this assertion is accurate then the same should be said regarding Cannabis. Would God of created the Herb and gave us dominion over it; if it was a Sin? “Drunk” vs “Drunkard” “Stoned” vs “Stoner”. The latter always results in Idolatry where as the first resides in mans dominion; which is in the realm of free will.

Now I am not for anything; Let God be true and every man a liar.

  • Getting together for the purposes of smoking pot and reading God’s Word – wrong. A True Christian would be “pricked in their heart”
Can only pray that their activity leads them to Christ.

1 Corinthians 8:9 “But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak”

Galations 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Galations 5:13 “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

As for medicinal marijuana, and an addiction or recreational smoking – that is entirely another matter.

Btw – still have a hemp jacket from yester-year, very robust fabric, much more resilient than man-made fibres.
