Facebook Bans All Private Gun Sales On Both Facebook And Instagram

Over the last two years, more and more people have been using Facebook to discover products and to buy and sell things to one another. We are continuing to develop, test, and launch new products to make this experience even better for people and are updating our regulated goods policies to reflect this evolution.

Facebook on Friday changed its policy to ban all private sales of guns through its platforms, said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Facebook will rely on users to report content that violates the new policy, Watts told Fast Company.

“In this country, we know that 40% of gun sales are through unlicensed dealers, without background checks,” Watts said, noting that licensed dealers, such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, would still be allowed to advertise guns on Facebook. She pointed out, however, that “licensed dealers don’t sell on Facebook.”

The new policy affects both Facebook and Instagram, which the company acquired in 2012.

In a statement to Reuters, Facebook’s head of product policy, Monika Bickert, said:

Over the last two years, more and more people have been using Facebook to discover products and to buy and sell things to one another. We are continuing to develop, test, and launch new products to make this experience even better for people and are updating our regulated goods policies to reflect this evolution.

How does one Resign from Facebook ?

    • Grace

Good question and you can just stop posting and you can go over there and close the account but they want to know why and the options they give are imo ludicrous but I did it anyway and picked the least ludicrous option…lol…and my friends began to call me saying they could no longer post to me so it does take you off but everything up until you quit is out there floating around in cyber space.

“Unlicensed Dealer” is an oxymoron. If you’re not licensed, you’re not a dealer–you’re a collector, and those sales are legal. As far as claiming 40% of all sales are made by “Unlicensed Dealers”, that’s a crock. How would anyone know that or track those sales? If the individual selling the weapon is not licensed, there’s no paperwork, and no background check that would enable anyone to learn about the transaction and record it. My suspicion is that once this or some future administration is able to get legislation that forces all firearm transactions to be subject to the Brady background checks, the background check approvals will simply stop, and no gun will ever legally change hands again. As Rush would say, if he were here: “Don’t doubt me on this…”.

obama has been the best spokesman / Gun Seller for Americans, gun sales are WAY up under his Dictatorship.

May ALL guns sales be banned!!!!

    • Joe

Why restrict it to guns? Why not ban knives while you are at it? How about cars too? More people are killed in car accidents than guns. Let’s include baseball bats while we are at it. And to top it off let’s ban ill informed, ignorant people that want to legislate morality by restricting access to guns so our government can further oppress us without any risk of reprisal.

Throw in alcohol too. More people cause undue harm when intoxicated than anything guns have ever done.

Of course, the liberals would NEVER advocate a ban on drinking. They LIKE their alcohol. They don’t like empowered, armed citizens wanting nothing more than a means to defend themselves.

Thanks Joe for sitting Mr. Ban Gun Sales Straight I was thinking what is wrong with him, being a PC liberal is enough for now.

My late father was a gun owner and a proud member of the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, and, as such, was also a fierce protector of the natural wonders of America. I myself inherited this deep heritage. I take umbrage at your remark about gun sales, it is ignorant and incendiary as you are very ill-informed about the truth.

It is interesting that Francis met with the top ceo’s of Google, IMF, and AOL all in the same week, as well as the owner of Facebook most recently. Would love to have been a fly on the wall during those secret meetings. I thank God for His Word that tells us in advance!

In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others unable to defend themselves were exterminated.

Hate to say it, well…no I don’t; but private gun sales won’t go down because of this- only increase. I personally would rather see, touch and meet both gun and person selling gun before I gave or send money to purchase anything like that. So, what facebook actually did was just bring people closer together- more and better relationships and of course, more secret and private business. Guess we can thank Facebook….”truly bringing people together!” Maybe by default encourage even more private actions by buyers….gun sales or attempted gun sales won’t be out there for all to see…LOL Sounds like a better plan eh? Kudos to Facebook and Instagram.

“He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”
    Revelation 13:10

“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
    He said:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
    Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
    Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
    Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
    Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
    Matthew 5:1-12

      Luke 22:36
Then said He unto them, “But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it and likewise his pack; and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.

“So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”

And He said to them, “IT IS ENOUGH.”
        Luke 22:38

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
    Ephesians 6:10-17

Why is always GUNS and GOD? Do you really think Jesus would’ve been a fan of guns?

    • Larry / vietnamvet1971

      • Fed Up

Well, you didn’t answer my question. What relation does god have to guns? I’m asking a genuine question because I don’t understand the correlation.

    Luke 19:45-48
45And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; 46Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
47And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, 48And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

The purpose of the 2nd amendment is not to go duck or deer hunting. It is in place as a safeguard in case the government goes bad (hmmm, I wonder if our government is going bad yet). An armed citizenry is a great deterrent to a tyrannical or corrupt government. Jesus could have talked it out above and told them to get out the temple, but they would have most likely shrugged it off and insisted that this is how it was done for decades or centuries.

Instead, Jesus took actions that many would see as disrupting peace, casting over tables (see parallel accounts in the other gospels for more details), throwing out the money changers, and aggravating those who wanted to rule over the people and take their money by corrupt means. And notice verses 47 and 48. The tyrannical priesthood could not do a thing because they feared the citizenry, the very same citizenry that was being taken advantage of before the Good Teacher took a stand and emboldened them (which is why over the next few days, the rulers would work hard to turn the opinions of the people to the point where they would crucify their liberator). If our elected officials do not fear us, they certainly will not respect our wishes when they shove immoral laws down our throats and expect us to ingest them.

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing” – various sources quote it

“The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it.” – Albert Einstein

I’ll even give an old testament example of this (yes, we are in the New Covenant, but we can still learn from this teaching): King Saul had thousands under his command, but no one had the boldness to face Goliath. Who knows how many soldiers God has called out to in order to put Goliath in his place, but fear and lack of faith stopped them? The lack of faith and willingness to fight was so bad, God orchestrated a food delivery from the shepherd boy David to his older brothers in the battle. And because David was willing to arm himself and fight against Goliath, we today still recall his tale of absolute faith (many say David took five stones because of a lack of faith, but tradition tells us Goliath had four brothers as well, along with the Bible attesting David slew one of his brothers later in his military campaign) and the boldness to stand up to wickedness because David believed and he acted with righteousness.

Putting your faith in guns is folly. But if God charges you to be a warrior (as he did for me and many of my fellows brothers in Christ), a gun is a tool that may need to be used to fight against the forces of evil. Yes, pray against the spiritual strongholds that are controlling many of the wicked today first and foremost (and I cannot stress that enough), but if God calls you to fight an army or take a gun to protect your brothers and sisters at a church or school, do not be the one to say “Not so, Lord, for I choose to remain unarmed and fight with words of peace”. Because that is not serving the Lord: that’s serving your ideals against the Lord.
