MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Heaven Is For Real’ The Colton Burpo Story Of His Trip To Heaven And Back
Heaven Is For Real is the story of little Colton Burpo who came down with stomach pains and a high fever. His appendix has burst and he goes in for emergency surgery. While on the operating table, little Colton has a vision where he is taken to Heaven and “meets Jesus”.

Heaven Is For Real, Indeed
Of the the greatest hopes the bible believing Christian has in this age is the Blessed Hope mentioned in Titus 2:13:
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Titus 2:13 (KJB)
That hope is Jesus returning for His church as He promised He would, right before the start of the Great Tribulation. Leaving this earth and being united with Jesus in Heaven for all eternity is the constant, fervent prayer of Christians all over the world. So, from time to time, when someone comes along with a fantastical tale of “dying” and coming back to life after being in Heaven itself, we need to judge that testimony by what the bible has already declared.
We do not judge the bible by the things we experience, but rather judge our experiences by what the bible has to say about them. The book, Heaven Is for Real, published in 2010, is now a major motion picture on the big screen fresh out of Hollywood.
Heaven Is For Real is the story of little Colton Burpo who came down with stomach pains and a high fever. His appendix has burst and he goes in for emergency surgery. While on the operating table, little Colton has a vision where he is taken to Heaven and “meets Jesus”. When he awakes he tells that story, as well as conversations he says he heard while being operated on. His father declares this to be “a miracle”, and the book was written. Here now are the major claims of the book compared to the bible. Please read and decide for yourself.
- Scared of Jesus: “Dad, Jesus had the angels sing to me because I was so scared. They made me feel better” ..at the time… “I was sitting on Jesus lap”. Colton is with Jesus, he said, actually sitting on His lap, and yet somehow he is terrified. Not until angels begin to “sing to him” does he begin to feel better. Compare that testimony to the following scriptures:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 - Jesus had a ‘rainbow horse’: Colton says “Hey dad, did you know Jesus has a horse?”….”Yeah a rainbow horse, I got to pet him. There’s lots of colors”. Sounding more like a description of ‘My Little Pony‘ instead of the King of Kings on His horse ready to do battle at the Second Coming, lets look at the horse Jesus has in Heaven:
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” Revelation 19:11 - A different Holy Spirit: Colton says that the Holy Spirit is up in Heaven and “shooting down power” for those who need it “It’s the Holy Spirit, “I watched him, He showed me”… ” He shoots down power for you when you are talking in church.” The bible begs to differ with that description:
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16,17
The bible says that the Holy Spirit is not “up in Heaven”, but INSIDE each and every born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
We could go on (and on, and on and on…) but I think you get the point. Colton was 100% incorrect in the three major points we listed, and as such his testimony concerning his “trip to Heaven” does not pass the scrutiny of the Holy Bible. The bible says that the Devil can easily be transformed as an “angel of light” in order to deceive people looking for signs, miracle and wonders. In fact, the bible goes on to say that in the end times, it will be signs, miracles and wonders that will be the tool of the Devil:
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:14,15
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon…And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,” Revelation 13:11,13
Colton Burpo indeed was given a “vision of heaven”, but it was not the Heaven mentioned in the scriptures. It is “another heaven” with “another jesus” designed to lead you away from the truth of God’s word, and into a fairy tale land of deception devoid of any and all Holy Spirit power. Not once does Colton mention the precious blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for all who would believe. Not once does he mention that unsaved people go to Hell, he never mentioned Hell one time. We would do well to remember the warning of the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul of deceivers with “another Jesus”:
“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:6-8

When you contribute to this fundraising effort, you are helping us to do what the Lord called us to do. The money you send in goes primarily to the overall daily operations of this site. When people ask for Bibles, we send them out at no charge. When people write in and say how much they would like gospel tracts but cannot afford them, we send them a box at no cost to them for either the tracts or the shipping, no matter where they are in the world. Even all the way to South Africa. We even restarted our weekly radio Bible study on Sunday nights again, thanks to your generous donations. All this is possible because YOU pray for us, YOU support us, and YOU give so we can continue growing.
But whatever you do, don’t do nothing. Time is short and we need your help right now. If every one of the 15,860+ people on our daily mailing list gave $4.50, we would reach our goal immediately. If every one of our 150,000+ followers on Facebook gave $1.00 each, we would reach 300% of our goal. The same goes for our 15,900 followers on Twitter. But sadly, many will not give, so we need the ones who can and who will give to be generous. As generous as possible.
