As many as 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy assed.”

The speaker was Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” project, an anti-bullying campaign that has reached more than 40 million viewers with contributors ranging from President Obama to Hollywood stars. Savage also writes a sex advice column called “Savage Love.”

Savage, and his husband, were also guests at the White House for President Obama’s 2011 LGBT Pride Month reception. He was also invited to a White House anti-bullying conference.

Savage was supposed to be delivering a speech about anti-bullying at the National High School Journalism Conference sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. But it turned into an episode of Christian-bashing.

Rick Tuttle, the journalism advisor for Sutter Union High School in California, was among several thousand people in the audience. He said they thought the speech was one thing – but it turned into something else.

“I thought this would be about anti-bullying,” Tuttle told Fox news. “It turned into a pointed attack on Christian beliefs.”

Tuttle said a number of his students were offended by Savage’s remarks – and some decided to leave the auditorium.

“It became hostile,” he said. “It felt hostile as we were sitting in the audience – especially towards Christians who espouse beliefs that he was literally taking on.”

Tuttle said the speech was laced with vulgarities and “sexual innuendo not appropriate for this age group.” At one point, he said Savage told the teenagers about how good his partner looked in a speedo.

The conservative website CitizenLink was the first to report about the controversy. They interviewed a 17-year-old girl who was one of students who walked out of the auditorium.

“The first thing he told the audience was, ‘I hope you’re all using birth control,’” she told CitizenLink. “he said there are people using the Bible as an excuse for gay bullying, because it says in Leviticus and Romans that being gay is wrong. Right after that, he said we can ignore all the (expletive deleted) in the Bible.”

As the teenagers were walking out, Tuttle said that Savage heckled them and called them pansy-assed.

“You can tell the Bible guys in the hall they can come back now because I’m done beating up the Bible,” Savage said as other students hollered and cheered. “It’s funny as someone who is on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible how pansy-assed people react when you push back.”

The executive director of the National Scholastic Press Association provided Fox News with joint statement from the Journalism Education Association that was sent to members – after a number of people complained about Savage’s remarks.

“We appreciate the level of thoughtfulness and deliberation regarding Dan Savage’s keynote address,” the NSPA wrote. “some audience members who felt hurt by his words and tone decided to leave in the middle of his speech, and to this, we want to make our point very clear: While as a journalist it’s important to be able to listen to speech that offends you, these students and advisers had simply reached their tolerance level for what they were willing to hear.”

The NSPA said they did not have a prior transcript of Savage’s speech and that wish “he had stayed more on target for the audience of teen journalists.” They also said it provided a “teachable moment” for students.

As for Savage’s attack on people of faith?

“While some of his earlier comments were so strongly worded that they shook some of our audience members, it is never the intent of JEA or NSPA to let students get hurt during their time at our conventions,” they wrote.

However, not once did the NSPA or the JEA offer any apologies to the students or faculty advisors or anyone else in attendance.

Savage did offer a sarcastic apology “if I hurt anyone’s feelings.” source – Fox News

What should we expect from a person who is in direct disobedience to the word of God. He will see the truth in the end. I pity him. As for the media…they are liberals and stand in opposition to Christianity. Why should we expect an appology? Things are not going to get better from here. Be ready!

Amen Larry! We must be alert and ready; willing to sacrifice and stand for Biblical truth and morality. Preach to them all and let God sort them out!

Christians are not the bullies he is looking for! The bullies in schools are not from the Christian sect, they are actually kids whose beliefs range from both sides sides of the spectrum. Schoolyard bullies pick on the weaker kids, Christians do not do this! He just feels the need to bash Christians because he hears Street Preachers bashing their sodomite lifestyles, this man is not a proper advocate for the anti-bullying cause!

I pity people like this because they do not know truth. Attacks on Christianity are getting worse and it shows that our time here is very short. Whatever names people choose to call Christians, we know in the end it will all be worth it because Jesus told us this would happen. I pray that the true Christians can stay strong until our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ returns for us, and to everyone else I just pray for your soul.

This Anti-Bullying speaker is mentally ill. Pity him.

Sodomy is against the teachings of the Lord. God destroyed the City of Sodom and Gomorrah, because of the sins of the people. History does repeat
itself. We are all living in the City of Sodom and Gomorrah.

God is angry. Now The End Begins. Earthquakes, tornado’s, tsunami and fires are happening

Those who advocate homosexuality and tolerance and acceptance are the the first ones who scream ‘hate’ when the Bible and Christians speaks out against homosexuality.. Why is not this speech considered a ‘hate speech’ when clearly it is and immediately stopped by the administration of this school??

Classic double standard in action.

Watch the video, many of the students realized the speech had turned into a Bible bashing event and walked out. Bravo to the students .. Bravo!!!

For someone to ridicule God’s word “The Bible” … Is a Sin!
It’s sad how most people do this … to justify how they live!
I do Not condemn a persons lifestyle … even if I dislike their choices in life … I do-Not judge! Nor, criticize! I pray for them!
Judgement day we will ALL see our maker and our eternity.
One should take in consideration and respect Christianity as to any religion and belief’s.

If we follow CHRIST we should expect this. However “Ye shall know them by their fruits.” Comes to mind although this man is not a believer, isn’t it funny how his anti-bullying campaign now appears as a front for bullying believers in GOD’S WORD? “All things done in the dark will be brought to the light!”

BTW, MR. DAN SAVAGE your flesh will overcome you, you will know burning desires that you cannot control. Your hunger will not be sated and your thirsts will not be quenched. Although you seek to satisfy your flesh you and your partner will never find that satisfaction or contentment. This is the fate of all who live to lust after the flesh, for the flesh consumes as an unquenchable fire and the desires there of torment the mind and soul. This is your fate like it or not, and eventually it leads to insanity! I PRAY THAT GOD BLESSES AND OPENS YOUR EYES BEFORE YOU LOSE THE CHANCE OF SALVATION!

I wonder what the response would have been had it been a room full of Muslims that walked out?

I would hazard a guess that Mr. Savage would have chosen his words much more carefully, and the NSPA would have been tripping all over themselves making apologies.

Christians are in a culture war with an almost morally dead west. Everyone knows this.

Why would ANY CHRISTIAN attend a lecture on any topic offer by Mr. Savage or any organization that allows him to speak when a simple Google search would have revealed who he was and what he stood for publicly?

Christians are going to Politically Correct / lukewarm themselves to death.

What always gets me is that there are roughly 2.2 Billion people on this earth that claim Christianity as their religion, yet they wield their influence like a wet spaghetti noodle than a sword of the Lord most of the time.

Christians as a rule of thumb should black list Mr. Savage and the NSPA just like any other individual or organization that that attacks Christians or their faith.

Christians need to wake up and push back a little… Read more »
