This is a handbook of the Local Church course taught at the Pensacola Bible Institute.

Because of the value of the material, most graduates wanted to take this course again, so Dr. Ruckman committed the material to writing. Topics covered include: the doctrine of the church, the characteristics of a New Testament church, how to start a local church, problems in the local church, things to consider for a church building, getting the congregation involved in evangelistic outreach, the church staff, the pastor’s wife, the responsibilities for the pastor, the Bible-believing Sunday School, personal soulwinning, and the need for local Bible-believing churches among communities.

The author draws on his sixty-plus years of experience on the Christian ministry (the pastorates of three churches and twelve years in full-time evangelism), with personal testimonies, to inform and motivate young men who believe God has called them to pastor a local, Bible-believing, Baptist church.
