Ronald Reagan: The President
and the Prophet Ezekiel

"In 1971, Reagan - then governor of California - attended a banquet to honor State Senator James Mills. After the main course, he asked Mills if he was familiar with "the fierce Old Testament prophet Ezekiel." He went on to explain that Russia was the Magog described in Ezekiel's prophecy and was thus
doomed to destruction."

"In the thirty-eighth chapter of Ezekiel it says God will take the children of Israel from among the heathen [where] they'd been scattered and will gather them again in the promised land," Reagan told Mills. "Ezekiel says that . . . the nation that will lead all the other powers into darkness against Israel will come out of the north.

What other powerful nation is to the north of Israel [besides Russia]? None. But it didn't seem to make sense before the Russian revolution, when Russia was a Christian country. Now it does, now that Russia has become communistic and atheistic, now that Russia has set itself against God. Now it fits the description perfectly." Reagan conceded that "everything hasn't fallen into place yet," but he strongly believed the end of the Soviet empire and the second coming of Christ were increasingly close at hand."
from Joel Rosenberg's book "The Ezekiel Option".
Ronald Reagan was a devout Christian. He was a student of the Bible. He was fascinated with end-times prophecies. He believed they were true. He talked about them with friends and colleagues. They helped shape his view that the Soviet Union, and the system of evil it advanced and perpetuated, was not long for this world.

For a movie actor turned president like Ronald Reagan, the Bible was indeed the greatest story ever told. He had read the last chapter, and thus he knew for certain that a day of reckoning - a day
of justice - was coming.

Hal Lindsey on the battle of
Gog and Magog
More than 2,500 years ago, a captive of the Babylonian Empire named Ezekiel penned a prophecy, dated for some future era called "the latter days," saying an alliance will arise, which Ezekiel calls collectively, "Gog, the land of Magog, the ruler of Rosh, Meschech and Tubal." It, together with an alliance led by Persia, including Turkey, makes up much of the Baltic region and the Mediterranean Middle East.

Without taking up too much time, "Gog" refers to modern Russia, from Moscow (Meshech) to Siberia. (Tubal). "Magog" refers to the states along the Black Sea, and in particular, the Republic of Georgia. I outlined Ezekiel's prophecy in 1969 in my book "The Late, Great, Planet Earth" at a time most of this territory was a well-entrenched part of the Soviet Union.

"After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them." (Ezekiel 38:8)

According to the prophet Ezekiel, this Russian-led alliance of nations would sweep suddenly down upon Israel in a surprise invasion that evokes only a weak diplomatic response from the West.

Gog and Magog
Though the identification of Gog and Magog still remains disputed, the identifications of Meshech and Tubal have for a long time not been in doubt. The association with Moscow and Tobolsk is untenable. Since the late nineteenth century, Assyrian texts have been available which locate Mushku (Meshech) and Tabal (Tubal) in central and eastern Anatolia (Turkey)respectively (Yamauchi, Foes from the Northern Frontier) Another key indicator pointing to Russia the reference to Gog coming from the North. There is Lebbon and Turkey to the North Israel, but both of these nations are unable to field a massive army that could threaten Israel.

Eze 38:6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: [and] many people with thee.

Eze 38:15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:

Eze 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

Oddly enough, Moscow is directly north of Israel. If you draw a straight line north of Jerusalem on the map, you will hit Moscow.

The fact that the Antichrist is not mentioned in these verses is viewed by some as a good indication that Russian invasion occurs before he arrives on the scene. If the Antichrist were a great world leader at this time, it is not likely that he would stand on the sidelines and leave Russia unchallenged. If this were the middle of the Tribulation Period, he would be in control of some of these nations and they would not be in Russian coalition. His absence is a good indication of a Pre-Tribulation Period attack.

The Battle of Gog and Magog

How Ezekiel 38 Predicts The Coming Of The Last World War

Read the archives:

"And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee." Ezekiel 38: 1-6

The bible clearly teaches in Revelation 20, that the battle of Gog and Magog will occur after the 1,000 reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on this earth:

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea." Revelation 20:7,

Ezekiel 38 declares that Israel is about to be attacked by a team led by Russia and Iran

Just the very sound of it is terrifying- World War III. But what exactly do people mean when they say that, and where do we get the idea from? History tells us that there was a WWI, which
was fought because of these reasons:

"WWI was the result of a long string of events dating back to the 1890's. Conflict in the Balkans and complex European alliances were the main causes. Germany had a huge role in this. They fought for the independence of Morocco in an attempt to break the alliance between France and Britain. Germany also participated in an arms race. Kaiser Wilhelm II started building up a navy, trying to
surpass Britain's fleet. Since Britain was an island nation, and had many overseas colonies, it had a gigantic navy, so what the Kaiser was attempting to do was no easy feat. Germany wanted to increase its own colonial empire, and most of the good colonies were already taken. These actions
and policies helped fuel the fire that was WWI." source - Answers.com

More recently, there was WWII, which was fought because of four immediate causes:
• Hitler invaded Poland bringing France and Great Britain into the war.
• Japan took over Manchuria bringing China into the war.
• Japan attacked the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor bringing the US into the war.
• Germany invaded the USSR bringing the Soviet Union into the war. source - Answers.com

A War Unlike Any Other War In World History

But the Bible tells us that in the End Times, there will be another "world war", and it will be led by Russia, Iran, and a group of other nations that surround the nation of Israel, to plunder her resources and steal her wealth. We find this prophecy in the 38th chapter of the book of Ezekiel -

"And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts [of armour, even] a great company [with] bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: [and] many people with thee...

...And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, [that] my fury shall come up in my face." Ezekiel 38

Max McClean narrates the battle of Gog and Magog found in Ezekiel 38 from the King James Version

God gives us the lists the major nations that will attack Israel, and they are:
Magog - this is modern day Russia
Persia - this is modern day Iran
Meshech and Tubal, Togarmah - this region is modern day Turkey
- this is modern Ethiopia
Libya - this is modern day Libya
- this is modern day Germany

While there is slight debate among bible scholars, the above list represents the best consensus of
the identity of the nations in Ezekiel 38. Suffice to say that the main players, of which there is no doubt, are Russia, Iran, Turkey, Libya and Ethiopia. Now if we were living in the End Times, there
would have to be a growing union between the biggest players in this group. A quick look at some
recent headlines tells us this:

• Russia, the biggest End Times player, has already helped Iran build a nuclear reactor
• Iran has repeated over and over their desire to wipe Israel off the map
• Iran now has nuclear weapons capable of reaching Israel

These nations will attack Israel, the bible says, "To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places [that are now] inhabited, and upon the people [that are] gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land."
Ezekiel 38:12

The battle of Gog and Magog is on the horizon

A Brand New Set Of Allies

What's very interesting to note here is that for the first time in 2,500 years, Russia and Iran are now
working together, as partners. This event is unique in world history. Prior to this period, the nations
have been at odds with each other, as follows - "Historical ties between Iran and Russia have often been contentious. For many centuries their competing drives for influence on a volatile frontier and the southward projection of Russian-based dynasties have troubled relations between the two countries. Iran lost significant swaths of territory to imperial Russia in the 19th century and suffered from Russian competition with other foreign powers to carve spheres of influence in Iran in the first half of the last century. During the Cold War, Russian-Iranian relations were influenced by the worldwide alignment of forces in a bipolar geopolitical setting. Iran, allied with the West, faced its Soviet neighbor across the East-West ideological standoff." source - Questia.com

source - The Iran Attack Plan

And yet, miraculously, in just the last 10 years or so, Russia and Iran are now buddy-buddy, with all
the nuclear know-how of Russia being used to created a nuclear Iran. You will also take note that
when any nation attempts to sanction Iran for all the tricks they pull it is always Russia, and China,
that side with Iran against everyone else. We are watching bible prophecy come true in our lifetime,
seeing the results each and everyday in the headlines, and yet we cannot seem to either put all the
peices together, or believe that the bible foretold all this. About that God says this -

"Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you." Acts 13: 40, 41

The Everlasting Hatred

You will also note that the vast majority of the nations in Ezekiel's list have one huge, glaring thing
in common with each other - they are all Muslim nations.

The battle of Gog and Magog will be in our lifetime.

Militant Islam has two goals in our day and age. The first is that of spreading Islam to every country
in the world, so that Islam and it's Sharia law will become the way by which the world is to be
governed. Second is the complete and total destruction of the Jewish people. Listen to this hatred
in their own words, I don't want to be guilty of misstating their position:

This is not the position of the "radical extreme", no, it's the position of hundreds of millions of
Muslims today, and they are united in their desire to see harm come to Israel, and more important,
the Jews themselves. Ideally, they would like to "drive the Jews into the sea" so that they might
claim Jerusalem as their own.
Ahmadinejad warns aggression won't save "most criminal regime in the world."

It would seem that the Hitler for our generation has been spouting off again, issuing threats of
doom and gloom against the nation of Israel. Physically, he is also a lot like Hitler - very slight build, a funny cartoon face, and dubious facial hair. But all kidding aside, this man is the Number One Enemy
of the Jews today. He has a satanic blood lust to see all Jews everywhere tortured, killed painfully,
and driven into the sea. This is his over-arching ambition in life, and has been furiously stockpiliing caches of weapons and technology towards this end.

"The Palestinians and the nations of the Middle East will be rid of a "bad omen" once Israel is annihilated, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a speech communicated by Press TV. Speaking to supporters in southern Iran, Ahmadinejad charged that Israel, a foreign presence and
a "Western prodigy" in the region, had "reached the end of its road." The Iranian president further stated that Israel was not as useful for "its masters" - apparently a reference to the United States
and Europe - as it was at its inception.

Calling Jews who immigrated to Israel before or after 1948 "the most criminal people in the world,"
he stated that it was now clear that there was no regime more hated than Israel. "They think in
their underdeveloped minds that if they launch another war against Lebanon or Syria it might help them survive a little longer. I am telling them that you are in a situation now that more aggressions
or wars will not save you," Press TV quoted Ahmadinejad as saying." source - JPost.com

World War III

The battle of Armageddon will be World War III, but it will not be the last war where all the
nations of the world will surround Israel and attempt to defeat her. The battle of Gog and Magog will
be the last battle to be fought. But all the players for WWIII, prophesied by God in the Holy Bible,
are now all taking the stage, assembling their armaments, and are waiting for the moment when
they will all attack.

But the Bible also assures us of the outcome of any nation or nations that would come against God's
Holy Land in the End Times -

"The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel...Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence [against] the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land...But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation." Joel 3: 16, 19, 20

Israel has two major world wars on it's horizon, and the bible refers to this as the "time of Jacob's
trouble". Israel's back will be pushed to the wall, and its resolve and endurance to the breaking
point. But God will save His People out of this time of calamity, and He will fight for them.

The battles have yet to be fought, but the outcome has been decided for the past 2,500 years.

Ezekiel 38 Frequently Asked Questions - by Joel Rosenberg

Will the War of Gog and Magog happen before or after the Rapture?

The bible clearly teaches in Revelation 20, that the battle of Gog and Magog will occur after the 1,000 reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on this earth:

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom [is] as the sand of the sea." Revelation 20:7,8

In Matthew 24:14, Jesus says, "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. " We also know from Ezekiel that God will use the War of Gog and Magog to display his glory to all nations and to pour out his Holy Spirit, particularly on the nation of Israel.

Christian theologians speak of the "doctrine of imminence." This means that according to the Bible there is no prophetic event that has to happen before Jesus snatches his church from the earth.
That is, the Bible teaches us that we should be ready for Jesus to come for us at any moment. I fully believe that. But it should be noted with regard to this doctrine that while no major prophetic event has to happen before the Rapture, that doesn't mean no such event will happen first. Perhaps the clearest evidence of this truth is the rebirth of Israel. This major prophetic event was foretold in Ezekiel 36--37, yet its fulfillment happened before the Rapture.

Doesn't the Bible tell us that the War of Gog and Magog will happen at the very end of time--after the Rapture, after the Tribulation, after the Battle of Armageddon, and after the thousand-year reign of Christ on earth--not before all these things as you have described?

Revelation 20:7-10 does speak of another War of Gog and Magog that occurs at the end of time, after all these other events. But this is a second war, not the war referred to by Ezekiel 38--39. We know this for several reasons.

First, Ezekiel's war is described as occurring relatively soon after the rebirth of the State of Israel and the ingathering of the Jewish people from around the world (Ezekiel 36--37). The war in Revelation, by contrast, occurs after Jesus has reigned on earth for a thousand years.

Second, Ezekiel's war involves a fearsome but limited coalition of countries that surround Israel, as we learned in earlier chapters. The war in Revelation involves all the nations from "every corner of the earth" coming to attack Israel (Revelation 20:8).

Third, after Ezekiel's war, life continues. Bodies are gathered and buried for seven months, weaponry is gathered and burned for seven years, and Ezekiel 40--48 describes the Temple that will be built. By contrast, the war in Revelation is followed immediately and literally by the end of the world. Satan and his followers are judged and thrown into the "lake of fire" (Revelation 20:10). The heavens and earth are destroyed. A completely new heaven and a new earth are created, and followers of Christ will live on this new earth for the rest of eternity.

Joel Rosenberg discusses End Times events with Glenn Beck
Are you really certain that the West, particularly the U.S., will not come to Israel's defense during the War of Gog and Magog? Given the historically strong and strategic relationship between our two countries, that just doesn't seem possible.

Unfortunately, Ezekiel's account is clear--no one comes to Israel's defense. By definition, that includes the United States. I agree that is difficult to imagine, especially when one considers how consistent American public opinion has been in favor of the Jewish state over the past four decades. During the Six Days' War in June 1967, for example, 56 percent of Americans told the Gallup poll that their sympathies lay with Israel, while only 3 percent sided with the Arab states. In February 2006, 59 percent of Americans told Gallup they sided with Israel, compared with 15 percent who said they sympathized more with Palestinian Arabs.1

What's more, the number of Americans who view Israel as a reliable ally has climbed from only 33 percent in 1982 (when Israel bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor and invaded Lebanon to stop terrorism and a massive buildup of Soviet armaments) to 41 percent in 2005, though it has fluctuated along the way.2

American support for Israel stands in marked contrast to Europe, however, where anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments are rising rapidly. Synagogues and Jewish schools and cemeteries throughout Europe are being burned, vandalized, or otherwise desecrated in ever-increasing numbers. Jews are being verbally and physically assaulted throughout Europe. Rockwell Schnabel, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, said at a dinner of the American Jewish Committee in Brussels in 2004 that anti-Semitism in Europe "is as bad as it was in the 1930s."3 European polls increasingly show antagonism toward Israel and Israeli policies. In November 2003, a majority of Europeans actually named Israel as the greatest threat to world peace, ahead of Iran and North Korea.4

It seems like a safe bet, therefore, that Europe would not raise a hand to help protect Israel against attack. But would the U.S.? Even given historical trends and current indications of American support for Israel, we should expect that the closer we get to the War of Gog and Magog, the fewer Americans we will see strongly supporting the Jewish state. I'm already beginning to pick this up anecdotally on radio interviews in which a surprising number of callers say things like, "Why should we spend a dime to save Israel?" and "Let the Jews fight their own battles" and "The only reason we as Americans are getting attacked by Muslims is because we support Israel--the sooner we stop, the sooner there will be peace."

The real test, of course, will come when Russia and Iran and their allies begin to move forces toward Israel. How many Americans would be willing to risk nuclear war with Russia and Iran to protect even a loyal ally like Israel--especially if Moscow and Tehran argue that they have no desire for a confrontation with the U.S. if we will just stay out of the way? Sadly, I suspect the number today is much lower than most supporters of Israel are willing to admit.

Those who already want American forces out of Iraq and Afghanistan are not likely to support a new war. Nor will undecided voters or those who believe we should finish the job in Iraq but then be done with the Middle East. Under such circumstances, it will be extremely difficult for any American president to commit forces to defend Israel.

Ezekiel says the War of Gog and Magog will happen in the last days. Doesn't that by definition mean it will happen during the seven years of the Tribulation?
Ezekiel 38:16 does say these events will happen in the "last days" (NASB), but this term is not necessarily limited to the period of the Tribulation. The apostle Peter, for example, used the term in Acts 2 to refer to the period he was living in, and that was nearly two thousand years ago. Likewise, consider the words of another apostle in 1 John 2:18: "Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come." Again, John was writing nearly two thousand years ago. It's important to note that the Hebrew term translated as "the last days" can also be translated as "in the distant future" (NLT) or "in days to come" (NIV). Thus, it is reasonable to conclude that the term the last days refers to an indeterminate period of time leading up to the second coming of Jesus Christ. This period includes--but is not limited to--the seven years of the Tribulation.

Art thou come to take a spoil?

Ezekiel 38 says that these nations come against Israel for financial reasons. " Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?" Now, what could there possibly be in Israel that would
entice all those nations to invade Israel?

Does Genesis predict an End Times oil and gas discovery in Israel?

Yes, it surely looks that way, check it out:

"And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you [that] which shall befall you in the last days...[Even] by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb" Genesis 49: 2,25

In the last days, the Bible says that Israel will receive a "blessing of the deep" in the land that lies
under Israel. What lies under Israel? Trillions of metric tons on natural gas, and quite possibly oil as well.
Listen to Hal as he breaks it down, will amaze you, guaranteed -

Israel set to become gas exporter, oil reserves thought to be there as well

So, if the Bible says that Russia will lead the charge into Israel to "take a spoil", don't you think that
there would be signs in Russia right now that they are paying close attention to the situation? Yes,
there is. Read this article from the Russian website Neftegaz:

"A US energy industry expert estimates that international companies may soon join exploration efforts for oil and gas in Israel. The expert, Fred Zeidman, told Globes website that it is very likely that international firms will join the exploration efforts on Israeli territory, a year after the Tamar and Dalit discoveries in the Mediterranean Sea.

One international firm is already involved: Noble Energy, which was the partner of Delek and Isramco in the discoveries. Two of Israel's largest financial groups -- Nochi Dankner's IDB group and Ofer Nimrodi's Israel Land Development -- have also entered the sector. "It happens all the time," Zeidman said. "We see in the US that the moment a company discovers oil or gas that can be transported, there's a crazy rush to the region by other companies, and that's a function of the size
of the reserves found.

They have found 15,000,000,000 cubic feet of natural gas in Israel, watch for oil to be discovered next

Around the world, as soon as Noble goes to a place, many other companies follow in its wake. The prospects here are amazing, and I have no doubt that we'll see an economic boom, and a rush of more companies to Israel from overseas following Noble." The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that 122 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered, recoverable natural gas are in the Levant Basin Province in the eastern Mediterranean region, according to a new report. The area includes the coastal areas near Israel, Lebanon and Syria. source - Neftegaz.RU

Now you see proof that Russia is eagerly watching the developments in Israel with baited breath,
and just waiting for their moment to, with Iran and others, invade Israel.

Iran to Russia: Let's establish a nuclear consortium. Iran has asked Russia to join forces in establishing a nuclear consortium to supply fuel for the newly operational Bushehr plant, as well as other plants due to begin functioning in the future. According to reports on Thursday, Iranian Vice President and nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi told state news agency IRNA that the proposal to Russia was made "for the creation of a consortium, licensed by that country, to do part of the work in Russia and part of it in Iran." source - JPost.com

This is EXACTLY what Ezekiel saw in his vision of the end times - Russia and Iran together as partners in military matters which will ultimately lead to the attempted invasion of Israel. This is the battle of Gog and Magog.
