The Tea Party Movement
The Tea Party movement is a movement for fiscal responsibility that emerged in the United States in 2009 through a series of locally and nationally coordinated protests.

The protests were partially in response to several Federal laws: the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and a series of health care reform bills.

The name "Tea Party" is a reference to the Boston Tea Party of 1773 - a protest by American colonists against various acts by the British Government which, among other things, attempted to establish a monopoly on the importation of tea into the colonies by giving a cut on re-importation tax imposed on the East India Company.

Tea Party protests have invoked themes, images, and slogans similar to those used during the pre-revolutionary period in American history

Liberals blame Tea Party for Arizona shooting

Asked if she had any enemies, he said: "Yeah, the whole Tea Party."

Daily Kos blames 'right wing' for shooting deaths. Shortly after news broke of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., the left-leaning blog Daily Kos was swift to scrub its post from a Tucson writer explaining how the congresswoman was now "dead to me." One of the blog's diary writers, identifying himself as BoyBlue, had written a post only two days before the shooting titled "My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!" source - WND

Guardian UK blames Tea Party. The US was tonight seized by a fierce debate over whether inflammatory rightwing rhetoric was to blame for a shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona, that targeted congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and left six dead, including a nine-year-old child. Giffords, 40, who remains in critical condition in hospital after being shot through the head but is expected to recover, criticised Sarah Palin last year for putting her and 19 other Democrats on a hitlist, each shown as being in the crosshairs. The National Jewish Democratic Council -- Giffords is the first Jewish woman elected to Congress from Arizona -- saw the attack as emanating from the polarised political debate: "It is fair to say -- in today's political climate, and given today's political rhetoric -- that many have contributed to the building levels of vitriol in our political discourse that have surely contributed to the atmosphere in which this event transpired." Giffords's father was blunter. Asked if she had any enemies, he said: "Yeah, the whole Tea Party." source - Guardian UK

Tea Party's Liberating Effect Ripples Felt All Across The World

England is wishing they had their own Tea Party. Many people would like to pay less tax and enjoy more freedom to choose how they spend what they earn. So, even if you - like me - have little or no interest in politics, the midterm elections in America prompt the question; why do we have no Tea Party in Britain? Never mind the quaint historical tale about bewigged revolutionaries dumping bales of the brown stuff into Boston harbour.

You rarely hear a British politician making the moral case for lower taxes and more individual choice.

'Taxed Enough Already' is the part of the Tea Party name that might touch a chord with many in Britain today. Few people now believe that the man in Whitehall knows best or that other people can spend your money more efficiently than you can. Indeed, you could argue that a fundamental cause of the current economic crisis is that too many bureaucrats in public and private sector institutions have been spending other people's money too foolishly for too long. Many years ago, the American libertarian economist Milton Friedman noted that "very few people spend other people's money as carefully as they spend their own". So it is a remarkable fact that no British political party at the last General Election offered voters the chance to keep more of what they earn. Quite the opposite. The Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Labour all agreed that we must pay more tax; the only fiscal issue for debate was about how big the increase will be." source - Telegraph UK

Days after election victory: 'Tea Party' coming to Israel

"First they took Washington, now they'll take Jerusalem? With victory in the congressional elections less than a day old, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (Rep.) who considers himself a 'Tea Party' member, is set to arrive in Israel on Sunday. Rubio's visit so soon after the election win is a move that strengthens assessments that the congress in its current form will continue where it left off - at least where Israel is concerned.

The pro-Israeli AIPAC lobby applauded the election results, congratulated the winners and said: "It is abundantly clear that the 112th Congress will continue America's long tradition of staunch support for a strong, safe and secure Israel and an abiding friendship between the United States and our most reliable ally in the Middle East."
