Southern Baptist Churches Begin Embracing Roman Catholic Contemplative Spirituality

It seems that the Emergent Church which teaches Contemplative Spirituality Mysticism (CSM) has slithered its way into our Southern Baptist churches. ...

My research on one pastor who insists that our God and Allah are one and the same, made me curious as to what other errant teachings might also abound. Suddenly, I realized that I was seeing only the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

“Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Acts 20:30 (KJV)

It seems that the Emergent Church which teaches Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) has slithered its way into our Southern Baptist churches. The proper spirituality of the Christian, being sola Scriptura, is being replaced by spiritual mysticism, which can be traced back to the Roman Catholic church.

From Pastor Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries:

“Leaving this aside now the evangelical community is embarking upon a very dangerous spiritual game of Russian roulette embracing highly subjective Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM), such as that taught by Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster along with his spiritual twin and Southern Baptist minister Dallas Willard. Sadly this is yet another bad by-product of its welcoming in the sinfully ecumenical neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church aka the Emerging Church, of which that dubious duo were key mentors.

Rick Warren has now jumped on the CSM bandwagon, and in turn has given the green light to his pastor followers.

You may know that CSM is merely repackaged Roman Catholic mysticism and was a core doctrine of the EC from its hatching in hell; in addition it plays a critical role as the neo-Gnostic foundation of its new postmodern version of Progressive Christian theology under their spiritual circus “big tent” Emergence Christianity. As spurious CSM now spreads as leaven throughout the entire lump of the church visible it’s become the cause of a growing syncretism; and without a doubt one of the biggest syncretists within evangelicalism is the religious chameleon Purpose Driven Pope Rick Warren.” [1] – source

When preachers lose sight of their need to depend on and teach from the Word of God alone, their lofty and contrived ideas land them on a slippery slope which eventually leads to total apostasy.

Rick Warren, of Saddleback Church and Purpose Driven Life/Church fame, has been on the slippery slope for most of his time as a pastor. He is not grounded in God’s Word, so he is vulnerable to being deceived and then deceiving others along the way. The people are loving what he’s selling. He keeps packing them into his “bigtop” and the circus keeps getting crazier.

Rick Warren has called the Pope “The Pope of all Christians.” I am a Christian, and I will tell you right now that the Pope is not my Pope — he is nothing to me in my walk with God. After Rick Warren’s PDL book came out and was on the NY Times best seller list for many months, he automatically assumed that the success of his book was proof that God was blessing his ministry.

Then came the Purpose Driven Church, and I found out that Warren was emailing his propaganda to Southern Baptist pastors across the world on a weekly basis. Discernment is one of the greatest gifts from the Lord. But in order to discern spirits, one must go to the only source that is reliable, and that is God’s Holy Word. When one has the Word in their hearts and minds from reading the Bible, then discernment becomes second nature. But still we are admonished to compare what we hear or read against His holy Word.

God’s Word MUST reign supreme in His followers hearts, minds and spirits.

Rick Warren has now jumped on the CSM bandwagon, and in turn has given the green light to his pastor followers. Warrens’ love for the RCC has been spreading as well. The Southern Baptist Convention is, sorry to say, an ineffective corporate entity, which does not get involved in Baptist churches who are shifting away from Baptist doctrine into the New Age of CSM. I spoke with one of the SBC leaders, and he confirmed this to me. I felt like I was speaking to a politician.

Excellent expose on Rick Warren’s and Emergent Church promotion of mysticism:

When I was saved in 1983, the couple who lead me to Christ belonged to a Charismatic church. When I left that church (it was far to drive) I sought out a church similar to my first church. What did I know? I came from Judaism into to being a Jewish Christian. I knew virtually nothing about denominations and such.

I did know that the new charismatic church made me very uncomfortable. People stood up on Sunday mornings, and said “I have a word of knowledge” or “Thus saith God.” Sometimes, they would have visions and speak in tongues with no interpreter. I read my Bible constantly, and something was very wrong — I could feel it. How did I know if these words spoken from people were Words from God? Couldn’t they be from the person? And in that case, why would I need to know these words?

I wound up in a SBC church. I felt safer there. I believed that the Southern Baptist churches were Biblically sound and trustworthy – well at least the one I was attending. I didn’t have to worry about people standing up and grabbing a microphone, to impart something from God. I believed that everything I would want to know from the Lord, was in the Bible.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 2: 16-17 (KJV)

No church on this earth is perfect because they are all made up of people. But the Lord wants leadership to be looking to Him in prayer, and His Word for teaching.

What is Contemplative Spirituality? I took this straight from

Question: “What is contemplative spirituality?”

Answer: Contemplative spirituality is an extremely dangerous practice for any person who desires to live a biblical, God-centered life. It is most commonly associated with the emerging church movement, which is riddled with false teachings. It is also used by many different groups that have little, if any, connection with Christianity.

In practice, contemplative spirituality is primarily centered on meditation, although not meditation with a biblical perspective. Passages such as Joshua 1:8 actually exhort us to meditate: “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Notice what the focus of meditation should be—the Word of God. Contemplative spirituality-driven meditation focuses on nothing, literally. A practitioner is exhorted to completely empty his/her mind, to just “be.” Supposedly, this helps one to open up to a greater spiritual experience. However, we are exhorted in Scripture to transform our minds to that of Christ’s, to have His mind. Emptying our minds is contrary to such active, conscious transformation.

Contemplative spirituality also encourages the pursuit of a mystical experience with God. Mysticism is the belief that knowledge of God, spiritual truth, and ultimate reality can be gained through subjective experience. This emphasis on experiential knowledge erodes the authority of Scripture. We know God according to His Word. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). God’s Word is complete. There is no reason to believe that God adds additional teachings or truths to His Word through mystical experiences. Instead, our faith and what we know about God is based on fact.

The website for the Center for Contemplative Spirituality sums it up well: “We come from a variety of secular and religious backgrounds and we each seek to enrich our journey through spiritual practice and study of the world’s great spiritual traditions. We desire to draw closer to the loving Spirit which pervades all creation and which inspires our compassion for all beings.” There is absolutely nothing biblical about such goals. Studying the world’s “spiritual traditions” is an exercise in futility because any spiritual tradition other than that which exalts Christ is falsehood. The only way to draw closer to God is through the path He has ordained—Jesus Christ and the Word. [2] – source

In my research of the Baptist pastor who believes that God and Allah are the same, I noticed that he was also bringing “Catholic” practices into his church. He has been talking to his congregation about Lent. He is also all about ecumenicalism, and seems very willing to unite for unity sake, even seeing that choice diluting the message of Jesus Christ, and blurring the lines between the RCC and Evangelical Christians, and in his case, even Islam! I believe this is his intent.

From Way of Life Ministries:

Everywhere we look “evangelicals” are turning to Roman Catholic styles of contemplative spirituality (which in many cases were borrowed from pagan sources), such as ritualistic rote prayers, chanting, meditation, centering prayer, the use of prayer beads, Stations of the Cross, lectio divina, labyrinths, and “the daily office.”

The cover story for the February 2008 issue of Christianity Today was “The Future Lies in the Past,” and it describes the “lost secrets of the ancient church” that are being rediscovered by evangelicals. The ancient church in question happens to be the Roman Catholic, beginning with the so-called “church fathers” of the early centuries.

The article observes that many young evangelicals dislike both “traditional Christianity” and the seeker sensitive churches. Traditional Christianity is described as too focused on “being right,” too much into “Bible studies” and “apologetics materials.” Instead, the young evangelicals are lusting after “a renewed encounter with a God” that goes beyond “doctrinal definitions.” This, of course, is a perfect definition of mysticism. It refers to experiencing God beyond the boundaries of Scripture.

Christianity Today recommends that evangelicals “stop debating” and just “embody Christianity.” Toward this end they should “embrace symbols and sacraments” and dialogue with “Catholicism and Orthodoxy”; they should “break out the candles and incense” and pray the “lectio divina” and learn the “Catholic ascetic disciplines” from “practicing monks and nuns.”

Christianity Today says that this “search for historic roots” will lead “to a deepening ecumenical conversation, and a recognition by evangelicals that the Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are fellow Christians with much to teach us.”

This is a no-holds-barred invitation to Catholic mysticism, and it will not lead to light but to the same darkness that has characterized Rome throughout its history, and it will lead beyond Rome to the paganism from which Rome originally borrowed its “contemplative practices.” [3] – source

I am not surprised at all by Christianity Today’s remarks. It seems that they have been an apostate outfit for a very long time.

I used to watch Dr. Ed Young on TV when the kids were small. I loved him. It grieves me to tell you that he has bought the Emerging church practices, lock stock and barrel. Satan is tricking these formerly sound teachers of God’s Word.

Brethren, this is just more proof that we must be in the end of the end times. Who would have ever thought that the Southern Baptist Church would be joyfully receiving these mystical, New Age practices into their sanctuaries? Who would have ever thought that the Evangelical churches would be cozying up to the Roman Catholic Church?

The devil is SO crafty.

Born into a Jewish family in Maryland, I was always searching for the truth about Jesus. I knew that He had to be someone so very special. My dad would say “He was a good man, but not who he said he was.” So a good man would lie? At the age of 31, I finally met Yeshua, and He became my Lord and Savior. I am a Jew who has been made complete in Him. I am now anxiously awaiting His Glorious return to rapture His church! Maranatha!

From one kindred spirit to another, another home run article Geri! I’ve been aware of these practices for some time now from my readings and research, and you summarize the apostasy perfectly. By the way I’m blessed to attend and be a member of a biblically sound, vibrant SBC congregation in NC.

      • geri Ungurean

        Praise God, brother!

    • I am not a Jewish Christian, but I attend a Messianic synagogue. Maybe you would be comfortable worshiping some place like this.

      • I don’t feel comfortable in Messianic churches. Most of them are into Hebrew Roots which is a cult. I’m not saying ALL of them, but most.

        • Can you guide me as to what I can read regarding this? I’d really like to understand what that means. Thank you.

      • Nancy, there is neither Jew nor Gentile in Christ Jesus. Such is the clear teaching of the New Covenant. Judaism is a religion, as Islam and Hinduism are religions. When a person truly believes on the Lord Jesus Chirst, the Saviour from sin, they are made new creatures in Christ through baptism with the Holy Spirit. They are saved from all this worlds religious systems and become citizens of the Commonwealth and household of Israel and of God. The holy temple of the Lord, the habitation of God through the Spirit.
Please see the Epistle to the Ephesians Chapter 2 for clarification.

    • Now this scares me! I go to church at a Southern Baptist church here in southwestern PA that we went to when my independent fundamental church had a big break up occur about 20 years ago. I have never noticed any of these New Age practices, but if I ever do I will get out and never go back! My mom and I will go together-when I am able to wake up as I work nights and my dad will come with us-if he can get out of bed. When I don’t go, I pray and read my bible at home

    • Dear NTEB/Geri:

Geri, where have you been? Thanks for showing how the Great Harlot is drawing all her harlot daughters home for the one False Church. To aid in the pursuit of true Christian understanding, Pastor Chuck Baldwin has this to say:

      Conspiracy Anyone? Boehner, Pelosi show.

What kind of Christians are we? Thanks, Norbert.

      • Kim Wilde

Norbert, thanks for sending me to chuckies infomercial, NOT! I used to think that this guy was on the up & up. He’s another James Kennedy! He has serious Biblical issues. He’s in it for the money. He promotes the 501c3
Church! If you are 501c3 you belong to the govt. ! Unfortunately most “Churches” in America have taken the bait.

    • carson

I talked with a CSM guy who was busy about building a labyrinth at a southern B church, a maze thingy where people would walk and contemplate how saved or not saved they were at that very what he told me.

Imagine walking along and being/feeling saved..then oops..not being or feeling saved..just hogwash weirdness.

Anyway they vacate the mind or also pick a theme or verse and over and over think on a silent chant, and by that something deeper is supposed to come out..yeah but nothing good.

Anyway I see your comment form is still set on auto populate/filled out with someone else’s or the prior commenters name and address and not blank like it should be..I’v seen this for the few months I’ve visited. there are tons of blogs/sites that I’ve never seen this happen on, can’t you use another commenting program? It can’t be that hard to fix and again plenty of commenting programs where one doesn’t have to sign up/sign in yet still don’t auto populate the form with the last commenters name and address. Hope it’s fixed soon and many have mentioned it for awhile now.
I like the site and plenty of good articles but this commenting form thing needs fixin’.

lol..I did read someone thought it a trouble to have to fill out the form each, would hate to think the ‘everything must be fast and easy and automatically done for us’ has taken over but filling out the form each time is not a problem..comeon now.

    • All this can be traced to the fact that preachers have quit teaching on satan and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They don’t want to be controversial because it isn’t good for business. They are commercialized. Acts 2:38, “Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and be BAPTIZED everyone of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the HOLY GHOST.” I was born again when I repented and determined in my heart to do things God’s way, not a churches or some man’s way. The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in a language you not normally speak is found in Acts 2:1-4, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” and also Acts 10:38-48 and Acts 19:1-7. USA needs to be born again and Christian’s come in to unity before restoration can begin. There are 35,000 Christian denominations worldwide and 1,500 in the USA alone. Divided we fall.

    • James

I am shocked about Dr. Ed Young. Could you please explain why you think Dr. Ed Young has embraced this un-Biblical mysticism?

      • I credit Dr. Young’s books in giving me the information to reverse my prostate cancer. I never thought of him in a religious way. He is a Mormon and his distant grandfather was Brigham Young. He teaches an alkaline lifestyle.

        • James

I don’t believe we’re talking about the same Dr. Ed Young. I’m referring to the pastor of Second Baptist Church in Houston, TX. He nor his father have any connection to the Mormon cult. Regarding this article I’ve never known him to preach the type of apostasy referred to by Geri. I was hoping someone at NTEB could elaborate on why they believe Dr. Young is preaching the Emerging church.

          • Sorry. My mistake,

          • Geri Ungurean

Do you attend Dr. Young’s church?

      • Geri Ungurean

I gave evidence of Dr. Young’s church going “Emergent” from Apprising Ministries.

        Here is another source:

        • James

Looks like it may be time for me to move my membership to another church.

    • It is the blood of Jesus that saves, and he is not of allah! Declaring Islam as another way to heaven is a great insult to the suffering endured by Jesus, who alone paid for our sins. Embrace of Chrislam by a Christian is rejection of salvation.

    • Beth M

I am in total agreement with your article, and I see this mysticism sneaking into all manner of churches. But I have one question. Lectio Divina – I believe this is just meditating on a passage in scripture; reading it and meditating on its meaning. I guess I don’t see what’s wrong with that. Thank you!

      • carson

In my area we have a catholic radio station, they talk alot about mary and say that people should pray at a specific time and date because it’s a special empowering date/time etc etc, just strange..and listening to them to observe some of what’s up they also will say the same verse over and over sometimes when they get to praying.
When you tune to the station and their at that point of the radio show where their simply repeating over and over the same thing and it just goes on and on and you wonder how long they do it for (I’ve never stuck around long enough to find out but after some minutes I’ve heard enough) it’s really strange and annoying and..well garbage yeah but yeah they basically chant the same verse, that’s not meditating like say with david did, thinking on a verse and it’s meaning and weighing it with other verse truths and etc..
I was told they think something deeper will be revealed simply from saying the same thing over and over, rather then weighing a thing out with other verse truths, pondering/weighing as opposed to chanting/repeating.

in india they have this mechanical wheel..some of them now motorized, you stick your note with a prayer on it and spin it or turn it on..the rotation of it is considered a prayer..and off to work or whatever they go..praying all day as the wheel spins with the motorized ones…
you wonder why these others don’t adopt the prayer wheel.
Actually we’d wonder why bother at all, all that stuff is just tragic blindness..pray they might be granted truth and sight to come out of all this stuff.

      • Richard,

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing testimony! I pray that the Lord will use your words to bring healing to others.

        You inspire me!

      Aramaic Bible Translation Project Proposal
      Victor Alexander ©1997-2015

The following are excerpts from a project proposal that I made in 1995 to the NEH, to translate the Ancient Aramaic Scriptures directly into English. The proposal was rejected because none of the mainline Protestant Churches nor the Catholic Church in the US approved the project. Nevertheless, I commenced the translation on my own. Here is the original proposal.

Statement of Significance and Impact of Project

The purpose of this project is to translate the Bible from the original Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. In its present translations the Bible contains thousands of verses which do not rhyme or maintain any appreciable poetic structure, whereas the original Aramaic version is a masterfully written and poetically beautiful work. Besides considerations of style, there are extensive passages in the present English language versions that are translated so poorly from an idiomatic standpoint that the scholar, let alone the layman can hardly understand them. And there are two larger issues in the humanities, which will benefit by a non-denominational, authentic translation of the Bible according to standards of literary excellence. First of all, the major reason for the insistence of Western Biblical theologians that Greek was the original language of the Gospel can be traced to the original controversies between the Greek converts to Christianity and the founding Jewish Christians. In addition, a Bible translated from Aramaic, with total disregard for the influence of the churches will not contain racist connotations. Mostly theologians grinding their own ax have imposed these on it. The second consideration is to expose the influence that the Aramaic language has had on early English, Shakespearean English and subsequent literature and thought, because of the place of the Bible in English society throughout the Christian era. Therefore, restoring the Aramaic idioms and poetic constructions through a fresh translation from the original Aramaic, would likewise benefit American students and scholars of humanities in their renewed appreciation for the language of the Bible. The readership of the Bible [in authentic translation] would be dramatically expanded, since people of all cultures and religious backgrounds could read it for purely literary reasons. And the students of religion would find it a very profound work of theological thought. For the deeply religious Christian, it would be a breath of fresh air, as passage after passage begins to read with clarity, style and impact.

I was raised a devoted Catholic and knew all the teachings and ways of the church. I became a Baptist when I came to know Jesus as my personal Savior. I have also been a part of contemplative prayer since becoming g Baptist. Contemplative prayer is NOT what you describe. It is a simple way of helping a person get quiet before God and listen to Him speak to the heart. There is no mysticism involved. But a calling on God Most High and setting the mind totally upon Him so as to push out distractions that interfere with praying to Him and hearing Him. It is simply sitting still before God. Be still & know that I am God- a scripture that is taught in contemplative prayer. Please be aware of what you speak. There may be some who take this prayer time to a level it was never intended but that happens in any church teaching. Legalism for example is sometimes taken to an extreme quite often in churches. So please be clear before you accuse.

      • Getting quiet before the Lord and praying and listening is nice as long as we remember there are two voices. Second Corinthians 10:5, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exaleth itself against the knowledge of God. And bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” Ephesians 6:16, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” Fiery darts are thoughts put into the mind by the wicked. Ephesians 6:10-13, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

      • I’m sorry, but you are wrong. The description that gave of this practice is accurate. It is evil and dangerous.

      • Geri Ungurean

Beth, may I ask which Baptist church you attend?

      • Tony

Beth, you are always welcome to come back to the Catholic Church. Although the various Baptist communities do teach some doctrines that are in line with the Scripture and Sacred Tradition they also teach doctrines that are outside of both Scripture and Tradition.

      • Geri Ungurean

Do people speak in tongues in your church, yet have no interpreter?

        • Dear NTEB/Geri:

I think I have a reply concerning speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues is in a language that humans speak but that that speaker does not understand. Watch this interpretation of Kenneth Copelan speaking in tongues.

It is to the point and shows the deception used. Thanks, Norbert.

          • Speaking in tongues as evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit is one battle that the devil is winning. Speaking in tongues is the only biblical proof of receiving the Holy Ghost and is evidenced by scriptures in Acts 2:1-4, Acts 10:38-48 and Acts 19:1-7.

First Corinthians 14 is the tongue chapter. In verse two it says “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” In verses 13-19, “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”

Verses 23-25, “If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.”

And finally verses 27-28, “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.”

Whoever is right between them, the only thing I can share from the Bible is that truth of God cannot be compromised with any other sort of belief that is adulterated with falsehood. In the true christian truth there is no such thing as ENTERFAITH,the mixing of apostate teachings with the clear declared truth from God..Galatians1:8,9; 2Jhn1:9;Jhn8:31…Being a holy God,which means pure and clean, he does not allow any adulteration with false of apostate teachings.God’s genuine servants must stay clear from any merging with a deviant groups claiming to be worshippers of the true God that does not remained in Jesus teachings and word…

    • Second Corinthians 6:14-18, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
Romans 5:17, “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”

Dear Geri. You absolutely need to read the “Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible”, “The Summa Theologica” by St. Thomas Aquinas and the “Magisterium of the Church” by Henry Denzinger.

      • Acts 26:13  At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from
heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about
me and them which journeyed with me.

Acts 26:14  And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard
a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue,
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick
        against the pricks.

Acts 26:15   And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said,
I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

I found this article interesting, but this isn’t the “norm” for most Southern Baptist Churches, some of us still hold to the sound doctrines that makes up a SBC Church.

      • Kim Wilde

Hay Al, what are you going to do when you realize that the World will be headed up by a JEW when JESUS comes back ?

        • The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back “for his bride” and not for any other reason (regardless of what this world’s wisdom may say).

When the Lord Jesus returns He will return in the clouds, where His bride will meet Him “in the air.”
His arrival is with clouds, and every eyes shall see Him.

          1. “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11.

          2. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” Revelation 1:7.

The Lord Jesus Christ declared to Nicodemus “Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.” John 3:10-13.
To the Jews He said, “Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.” John 8:23., and to Pilot He said, “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” John 18:36.

Once He has collected His saints from this earth (the Lord’s Harvest), this earth and this heavens, together with the elements, will burn with fervent heat and be dissolved.

Have you not read the testimony of the Apostle Peter considering the Day of the Lord,
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
          II Peter 3:3-16.

          • Alex,
The Lord Jesus Christ is NOT coming back.
My 2,000 years old brother Jesus said that in his own words in Mark 8.38

            38. “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this sinful and adulterous generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of, when he comes in the glory of his father, together with his holy angels.”

I am the Son of Man and am coming in the glory of my father who initiated website and the everlasting gospel, Global Peace Forever, described in the Book of Revelation 14.6

6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

        • Kim,

It was the Jesuit Ribera who first taught that the events prophesied in the books of Daniel and Revelation would not be fulfilled until the final three and a half years of this present age. At that time, according to Ribera, anti-Christ would arise. Of course this position was a smoke screen to deflect from the fact that the Roman Catholic theologians knew clearly that the person depicted as anti-Christ in Scripture was none other than the Papacy. Ribera laid the foundation of a system of prophetic interpretation of which the Secret Rapture became an integral part.

However, despite of the efforts of Jesuits like Ribera and others, It took another two and a half centuries before this Jesuit deception was accepted within the walls Evangelical Churches.

In the early 19th Century Futurism entered the bloodstream of Protestant prophetic teaching by three main roads:
          (i) A Chilean Jesuit priest, Emmanuel Lacunza wrote a book entitled ‘The Coming of Messiah in Glory and Majesty’, and in its pages taught the novel notion that Christ returns not once, but twice, and at the ‘first stage’ of His return He ‘raptures’ His Church so they can escape the reign of the ‘future antichrist’. In order to avoid any taint of Romanism, Lacunza published his book under the assumed name of Rabbi Ben Ezra, a supposedly converted Jew. Lacunza’s book found its way to the library of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and there in 1826 Dr Maitland, the Archbishop’s librarian came upon it and read it and soon after began to issue a series of pamphlets giving the Jesuit, Futurist view of prophecy. The idea soon found acceptance in the Anglo-Catholic Ritualist movement in the National Church of England, and soon it tainted the very heart of Protestantism.
(ii) The Secret Rapture doctrine was given a second door of entrance at this time by the ministry of one, Edward Irving, founder of the so-called ‘Catholic Apostolic Church’. It was in Irving’s London church, in 1830, that a young girl named Margaret McDonald gave an ecstatic prophecy in which she claimed there would be a special secret coming of the Lord to ‘rapture’ those awaiting His return. From then until his death in 1834 Irving devoted his considerable talent as a preacher to spreading the theory of the ‘secret rapture’.
(iii) However, it was necessary for Jesuitry to have a third door of entrance to the Reformed fold and this they gained via a sincere Christian, J. N. Darby, generally regarded as the founder of the ‘Brethren’. As an Anglican curate Darby attended a number of mysteriously organised meetings on Bible Prophecy at Powerscourt in Ireland, and at these gatherings he learned about the ‘secret rapture’. He carried the teaching into the Brethren and hence into the heart of Evangelicalism. With a new veneer of being scriptural the teaching spread and was later popularised in the notes of the Schofield Reference Bible.
(Alan Campbell. The Secret Rapture. Is it Scriptural?)

          J. N. Darby, influenced by Edward Irving and followed by C. I. Scofield and the early dispensationalists such as Lewis S. Chafer and Charles Ryrie, held to this position. Ryrie describes pre-tribulationism as ‘normative dispensational eschatology’ and ‘a regular feature of classic dispensational premillennialism’. Pre-tribulationist premillennialists believe that Jesus Christ will return in the air to secretly ‘rapture’ true believers before the Tribulation begins on earth. After seven years of tribulation, Christ will return with His saints to overcome the Antichrist and his forces and establish God’s millennial kingdom on earth.

Al, I notice that you refuse to address your stance on ISRAEL & HIS Chosen People( Jews) in case you missed this point. I also have NO TIME OR DESIRE TO READ YOUR INFOMERCIAL !

            • if you honestly and sincerely desire to know what the New Covenant teaches you would not permit yourself to be deceived, but rather seek with your whole heart the truth as in Jesus. Each of us are responsible for our own souls, for God, in Christ Jesus, has made all the provision necessary (and much, much more) to keep us from deception. But remember this important fact – The Lord Jesus Christ warned that there will be such great deception that if possible the very elect could be deceived. Are you completely confident, after fervently and prayerfully seeking the Lord God, that your understanding of the New Covenant is in accordance with Christ and His Apostles? Have you in yourself that anointing of which the Apostle John spoke, and are you relying entirely upon that for teaching?
” But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”

Only the anointing (which is Christ in you) teaches the truth as in Jesus.

      • No way that the Quran and the New covenant that was established when Jesus died on the Cross and shed His blood to give us eternal life were written by the same God. God wrote the Bible and the devil wrote the quran. The Quran 9:29 says, “Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth , (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” Quran (5:33) – “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement they shall have a grievous chastisement” Quran (8:12) – “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them”
Under God’s new covenant that established Christianity through the death of Jesus on the Cross when He took the sins of the world Jesus says in Matthew 22:36-40, King James Version (KJV) “36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Impossible that both the Quran and the New Covenant were written by the inspiration of the same God. Second Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect [complete], thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

        • Bill, Who is suggesting theat the Koran and New Testament were written at the time of Christ’s crucifixion? Where did you see that?

          • *That

          • I was trying to respond to Alexander Gillian. He said, “Now the End Begins often exagreate and misleads readers.
            1. Allah is just Arabic for God, and is the word used for God in all Arabic Bibles. Moslems use the Arabic for God because, a. The Koran was written in Arabic. b. Becuase they are Arabic speakers.” Sounds like he was trying to say God and allah are the same.

The Bible was written as the church was being established and the Koran was written 600 or 700 hundred years later by satan to attack Christianity.

I am sick and tired of people, tongue talkers, and others saying what we Southern Baptists Believe, let me enlighten you about what we believe, I am retired, but I was a Southern Baptist Pastor. Southern Baptists are Fundamentalists. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. We are not embracing the Catholic Doctrine, nor any other unbiblical doctrine, like our friends who publish these lies. We know about Saddleback Church. A lot of us believe that Saddleback, and her pastor should be thrown out of the Convention. It is not up to us, it is unto their local Association of churches.

As far as Bible versions are concerned, there are some of that believe that The King James version is as close to the original manuscripts as you can get. My 10 th great grandfather was on the translation committee. No he was not a Southern Baptist. They didn’t come into existance until 1845. I noticed that you are using a female as an authority. I do not acceGod put the men as leaders in the church. I have had my say. Thankyou.

      • As far as Bible versions are concerned, there are some of that believe that The King James version is as close to the original manuscripts as you can get. WRONG!.

As far as Bible versions are concerned, there is the latest translation of the Bible direct from Aramaic to English language, not spoiled by any other translations.
        Check it for yourself.

        • Hello Marek,
There are very few examples of the New Testament to be found in Aramaic. The many 1,000s of MSS and fragments that have been preserved are written in Hellenistic or Koine Greek. The consensus amongst translators and compilers is that the Aramaic fragments were translated from the orginal Greek texts. The OT quotations given in the New Testament are from the LXX or Septuagint Greek OT. Of the many 1,000s of NT Greek MSS and fragments that have been preserved, over 95% agree with the NT Greek Text complied by Erasmus and used in later editions, often referred to as the Majority Text (which speaks for itself). However, in mid 1800s two British priests (Westcott and Hort) complied a Greek Text based mainly on two Greek MSS, because they wanted to created and alternative to the Majorty Text, and believed the two MSS they used were the most ancient, and practically ignored the 95% of MSS used my Erasmus. Westcott and Hort’s Greek text became known as the Critical Text, and is the basis of the Bibles Societies Greek text currently in vogue, and is now known by the name Nestle-Åland Text. Westcott and Hort were Anglo-Catholic in theology and created their own Greek text because they despised the work of Emamus and strongly disagreed with much of Prostestant Theology. The two MSS they used were believed to be favoured by the Church of Rome, one such being taken from the Vatican Archives. The other MS was taken from a Greek Orthodox monestry at Mt. Sinai. The basis of their new Greek Testament was a contempt for Protestantism. Nearly all modern versions use the Nestle-Åland Text, rather than the Majority Text. This has been the practice of most translators since the production of Westcott and Hort’s Greek Text in 1881.

          • Sorry for the typos… Can’t see a way of editing.

          • Alex,

I thank you for updates Alex, of most of them I am aware of especially of Greek and Erasmus texts but I am still talking about Aramaic text which Jesus spoken with,

            Vic Alexander ©1997-2015 says:
“The following are excerpts from a project proposal that I made in 1995 to the NEH, to translate the Ancient Aramaic Scriptures directly into English. The proposal was rejected because none of the mainline Protestant Churches nor the Catholic Church in the US approved the project. Nevertheless, I commenced the translation on my own. Here is the original proposal.”

Marek, Why is it that everybody always has the inside track to GOD ? Your Alex translation is a direct repeat of everyone who denies that GOD gave us his DIVINE WORD in scripture and that scripture is the King James Bible ? What GOD is using this guy to change what JESUS really had to say ? If you truly have a walk with GOD you will have all the understanding you need about what JESUS said through reading the word. Not some rework of satans guidance. satan always has someone who thinks they know better.

Three things I have to ask you, 1) Retired ?
      2) Were you head of a 501c3 organization?
      3) No women were teachers in your organization?
I’ve had my day and would really appreciate some answers please.

      • King James Bible was initiated on a special order of the King James.
First verse of Genesis 1.1 of Alex translation explains everything.
        Genesis 1
        1. As the beginning, the Son of God creates the heavens and the earth.*

*1:1 John 1:1 “In the beginning of creation, there was the Manifestation. And that Manifestation was with God and God was the [the embodiment of] that Manifestation.

        That was the creation.

Then from the chapter 2 verse 4 where the LORD God, the God Maker, overtook from the God Creator and started making things according to his jealous character where he made a mess of everything even initiated the first command to keep created Man but made by him submissive.

Genesis 2.4. This is how the sky and the earth were created when the Lord God made the heaven and the earth.

Alex, personally I’m going in the rapture. I also believe that those who go against GODS CHOSEN aren’t going to like the end results of not listening to GODS WORD concerning HIS CHOSEN PEOPLE. I as a Gentile am grafted in( Thank you JESUS, GOD & THE HOLY SPIRIT)! He has a special place in his heart for the JEWS & ISRAEL! Don’t believe it ? Take it up with HIM !

      • I believe every inspired word of God. I have no disagreement with any of it. My disagreement is with that which is added by men to the testimony of God.

Remember Jesus words… “AFTER the tribulation”.

“Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

Stay on the Word. “All truth will expose myth if you stay on it.” G.W. North.

      Hillary? What?

    • Second,
The Apostles Paul and Peter are very clear regarding who God’s chosen people are.

“But God hath CHOSEN the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.”
      I Corinthians 1:27-28
“According as he hath CHOSEN us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”
      Ephesians 1:4
“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning CHOSEN you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.”
      II Thessalonians 2:13
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath CHOSEN him to be a soldier.”
      II Timothy 2:4
“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God CHOSEN the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?”
      James 2:5
“But ye are a CHOSEN generation, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an HOLY NATION, a PECULIAR PEOPLE; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but ARE NOW THE PEOPLE OF GOD: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
      I Peter 2:9-10.

    • Thirdly, See why Amillennialism is Scriptural and why Premillennialism and Postmillennialism are not.

    • Kim Wilde

Alxe, since you refuse to state your Anti-Semitic stance on here I’ll do it for you! You & your kind have a very interesting end coming! Please no more infomercials.

      • All true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ will eventually be labelled as “Anti-Semictic”. The Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for the same reason. Yet many are ignorant of this because they refuse to believe what Jesus Christ and His Apostles taught.

Peter declared by the Holy Ghost – “Ye are a CHOSEN generation, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an HOLY NATION, a PECULIAR PEOPLE… Which in time past were not a people, but ARE NOW THE PEOPLE OF GOD.” I Peter 2:9-10

This is the testimony of the Holy Ghost which all Zionists refuse to hear. And like the Jews of old (and present) are “stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears”, and “always resist the Holy Ghost”. Acts 7:51. Stephen’s murder is a testimony against the cult of Zionism.

The Holy Ghost tells us clearly who God’s people are.

    • What I am saying is that there is a lot of misinformation and downright ignorance amongst many professing Christians about the Arabic word for God (pronounced “Allah”). My comment has nothing to do with religion per say, but about language, and that in the Arabic “Allah” is simply the name for God. Of itself it has nothing to do with Islam.
In English we use “God” – when true Christians use it they are referring to the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, when non-Christians use it, who are they referring to? If we reverse this fact and apply it to Moslems we see that they take the Arabic word for God (Allah) and claim it is their god. “God” means different things to different people worldwide and each language has its own name/s.
Arabic speaking Christians do not use the English word “God”, they use “Allah”, because it is Arabic for God. Yet Western Christians appear to be paranoid because our brothers and sisters in Christ don’t speak English and speak their own mother tongue. It is completely non sensical.

I’ve been saved for about 6 years now and I have been attending church for about 4 years now. There are some very strange things being taught in the Baptist churches I’ve attended, and most of them were Southern Baptist. One pastor claimed the Bible supported life on other planets and the deacon of this church endorsed the “Book of Mormon” by saying that the first half of it is just like the King James Bible. Another church had a Sunday School teacher say that the Holy Spirit spoke to him and he thought Christian bakers should be baking cakes for homosexual couples. He then told us a few weeks later he was a Freemason. When I told the pastor my concerns about what he said, his response was that I took it the wrong way. Another church’s pastor was telling the congregation he wanted to be their father in the faith and 2 other churches were teaching the unbiblical concept of giving up something for Lent. I attended a new one just recently and the first Sunday worship service had no Bible preaching but was instead a ceremony to decorate the church with Christmas holly and hang ornaments on the tree. What is going on is really disturbing but I take comfort in the fact that the Lord said there would be a great falling away before the end and his return. I frankly don’t understand why so many so-called Christians are allowing these things in their churches.
