What if the Jews Had Accepted Jesus?

Some one may ask, "What would have happened if the Jews, as a nation, had repented, and accepted Jesus as King, would the earthly Messianic Kingdom have been set up? "

Certainly, but not necessarily immediately, for certain Old Testament prophecies as to Jesus' death and resurrection had to be fulfilled, for He had to die for the redemption of the race, before He could assume His office as King.

But this could and would have been fulfilled by the Roman Government seizing Jesus and crucifying Him as a usurper, and with Jesus' Resurrection and Ascension, Daniel's 69th week would have terminated, and the 70th week begun without a break, and at its close Jesus would have descended and set up His earthly Kingdom.

But you ask, "What about the Church? If it was God's Eternal Purpose to form the Church, how could it have been formed if there was no break or gap between Daniel's 69th and 70th week, and how therefore could there have been a 'bona fide' offer of an earthly Kingdom to Israel? "

The question is hypothetical and based on the supposition that something might have happened that God foresaw would not happen.

God's foreknowledge that the Jewish nation would not at that time heed the announcement that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand and repent, does not militate against the sincerity of the announcement any more than the offer of spiritual salvation by a preacher of the Gospel to an audience of sinners who he has every reason to believe will refuse his offer, is not a sincere and "bona fide" offer.

God's Plan and Purpose in the Ages is based upon His FOREKNOWLEDGE. If God had not foreseen that the Jews would reject the King and therefore the Kingdom. He would have planned for the formation of the Church at some other time than this present Dispensation.

As the Church was to be purchased by the precious blood of Christ, it was necessary that Jesus should be rejected and crucified, and that by His own nation, for the Prophet Zechariah foretold that the Jews should look upon Him whom they had PIERCED. But God's foreknowledge did not require or compel the Jewish nation to reject Jesus, any more than Jesus' foreknowledge that Judas would betray Him compelled Judas to so do.

The possibility of the Church being crowded out by the repentance of the Jewish nation did not enter into the "Plan of God, " who foresaw the refusal of Israel to accept Jesus as King, and that Israel would not nationally repent until after the Church had been formed and taken out of the world.

"How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel" Ephesians 3:3-6

The Church is a 'mystery revealed' by God, separate from His plan for Israel

The "mystery of the church" was first revealed to the Apostle Paul by revelation. That God would bring salvation to the Gentiles was widely known to the Old Testament prophets, the means by which He would bring it was not.

The Apostle Paul was caught up to the Third Heaven and shown things that God would not allow him to repeat.

All through the Old Testament, God showed the prophets that one day, He would save the Gentiles.
"And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God." Hosea 2:23

And again He spoke to Isaiah concerning this:

"I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name." Isaiah 65:1

But the creation of the church was given to no prophet of old times. But unto the Apostle Paul, God was pleased to reveal something hidden:

"How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel" Ephesians 3:3-6

God's Covenant with Abraham is eternal. and not given to the Church

So we begin to see that the Church is a wholly-new entity that God created, and through which He would bring salvation unto the Gentiles. But let the reader take great caution! The Church is not a continuation of the 'Jewish church', and neither does it replace Israel in any way. The hersey of what is known as Replacement Theology says that because the Jews rejected their Messiah, that God cast them off and REPLACED them (hence the term) with the Church. Nothing could be further from the truth. God's covenant with Israel as a NATION is eternal and without condition.

"And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, ...And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee." Genesis 17:3,7

Further, the promises made by God to the Jews through Abraham are not 'transferable to the church', but rather remain with the Jews throughout all eternity. Groups like the Roman Catholic church have attempted to incorporate Old Testament ritual in their worship service, but it is an ill-fitting abomination. Larkin says it best when he writes -

"It is because some religious bodies believe that the Christian Church is but another phase of what they call the "Jewish Church, " that they insist on a "ceremonial ritual" and retain the Priesthood with its altar, vestments, etc., and Temple-like buildings; and call the ordinances of the Christian Church "Sacrifices" and "Sacraments." They also go further and advocate a "State Church, " with the Church as the head, and claim that all the Old Testament promises of riches and glory have been transferred from the Jew to the Church." Clarence Larkin, 'Dispensational Truth' chapter 11.

The church is not the 'Kingdom of Heaven'

John the Baptist came with an amazing message. He came preaching that the 'Kingdom of Heaven' was at hand, and that the people should prepare for it. But what John was preaching was not heralding the Church, it was the 'Kingdom of Heaven' promised to the Jews:

"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." Matthew 3:1-3

Jesus also sent them out to proclaim the 'Kingdom of Heaven', but the people rejected it and it was postoned. But the 'Kingdom of Heaven' was promised to the Jews, and not to the church. The church was never promised a 'kingdom', they were promised to be a Bride for a Groom. When Jesus returns to set up His Kingdom on earth in Jerusalem, He returns WITH His Church, not for His Church.

The Church as the 'Body of Christ'

Ephesians tells us clearly that the Church is to be the Body of Christ:

"And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all." Ephesians 1:22,23

And this new body, being an entirely new creation, is made up of both Jews and Gentiles.

"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."
1 Corinthians 12:12,13

Now we will show that the Bride of Christ comes from His own body, just as the bride of Adam came from his own body.

The Church as the 'Bride of Christ'

The first Adam, Adam from Genesis, was given dominion over the earth, and lost it to Satan. God regains the earth by sending the 'last Adam', Jesus Christ.

"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven."
1 Corinthians 15:45,47

The bible tells us that the 'first Adam' had a bride made for him, and so Jesus, as the 'last Adam', also has a Bride that is being made for Him. The bride for Adam was made from his own flesh and bone. In Genesis we read the following:

"And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Genesis 2:21-23

Ephesians 5 tells us that we, the Church are also part of the 'last Adam's' flesh and bones like Eve was for the 'first Adam'.

"For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh."

And just so there is no confusion, the chapter goes on to verify that

"This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church." Ephesians 5:32

So we see that Adam's bride, Eve, was first taken from his body and then translated into a whole new creation as his living, breathing bride. The Bride of Jesus Christ, the Church, is now part of His body, and at the time of the Rapture will be translated into His living, breathing Bride.

The coming restoration of Israel

Thus far we have shown that when God appeared in the flesh to Israel, to bring in His Kingdom which was promised them by the prophets, Israel rejected and was put off to the side. It was then that God turned His attention to the Gentiles, and revealed a pre-prepared 'mystery' creation called the Church. The Church was given new promises, and did not have the promises given to the Jews 'transferred to them'.

"What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day." Romans 11:7,8

The Day is coming when Israel shall be restored as God has promised. May 14, 1948 fulfilled the promise in Ezekiel 37 to physically restore them to the land of Israel, and when Jesus returns at the end of the Tribulation the Jews will be spiritually restored. But the time of the Church - the 'fullness of the Gentiles - has to run it's course before this can take place:

"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: " Romans 11:25,26

Sisters but separate

Just as two sisters in a family with common parents, so is the Church and Israel. One does not replace the other, as they have been established for differing purposes. We have shown that God's Covenant with Abraham, and the promises made to him, are eternal and cannot be transferred or disannuled. The Church, however, was instituted for God to make a people for Himself that were not His people, Israel. When the Day comes when the Church has fulfilled the purpose for which it was created, the Lord Jesus Himself will come for us and take us home.

"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Titus 2:13,14

When that event, the Rapture, takes place, and the Church is removed from off the earth, then and only then will God turn His attention back to the Jews, and finish fulfilling His Covenant promise to Abraham. Israel is the Bride of God the Father, and the Church is the Bride of God the Son. Israel will live forever in the earthly Kingdom that was promised to them, and the Redeemed of the Lamb, the Church, will rule and reign with Jesus forever in glorified bodies made like unto His own glorious body.
