Obama Begins Slashing Military Budget 8,700 Jobs Cut

With deeper budget cuts looming, the Pentagon is starting to cut back by trimming the Defense Department’s civilian workforce.
The Army said Thursday it is moving forward with plans announced in July to cut about 8,700 positions, using a mix of early retirement offers, buyouts and attrition to trim the jobs by the end of the fiscal year in late September.

“Army commands and agencies are continuing to take necessary actions to reduce their civilian on-board strength to meet funded targets established by the secretary of defense and reflected in the President’s budget,” Thomas R. Lamont, assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs, said in a statement. “To the maximum extent possible, the Army will rely on voluntary departures to achieve these manpower reductions.”
The cuts will come in 37 states at 70 different locations across eight commands and agencies with nearly 90 percent of the cuts taking place within the Installation Management Command, Army Materiel Command and the Training and Doctrine Command. Most of the cuts are likely to occur in Virginia and Texas, where most of the DOD’s civilian workers are located.
In addition to eligible workers who retire, commanders will be able to use voluntary early retirement offers and buyouts to cut jobs, the Army said.
The failure of the bipartisan debt supercommittee means the Pentagon budget could be cut by a total of $1 trillion over the next decade — what defense leaders warn is a “huge” cut that would amount to a 23 percent reduction in the defense budget, resulting in furloughs and layoffs of “many” civilians and a reduction in the size of the military. A Google Maps satellite has spotted a series of bizarre structures during a sweep of the Gobi desert in China. The internet is buzzing with theories about what their purpose is, with suggestions ranging from giant QR readers to practise targets for military satellites.

To add to the intrigue, they are located on the borders of Gansu province and Xinjiang in northwestern China – an area that the superpower uses to build military, space and nuclear equipment.
In fact, some of the sites are less than 100 miles from Jiuquan, where China’s space programme headquarters and launch pads can be found.
Some internet users have been trying to overlay one of the strange structures on to various U.S. city maps, worried that there may be a sinister military purpose behind them. Others have pointed out that if China wanted to attack a U.S. city, it doesn’t need a practise map in the desert.
What’s also fuelling the mystery is that it’s just too difficult to tell what the structures are made of – whether they are painted on or dug into the landscape. However, upon zooming in, planes and burnt-out trucks can be seen on some of the photographs, which hints that they may indeed be targets of some kind.
This is the second time in a number of days that the search giant has published photographs of possibly secret facilities. Last week it published pictures of Iranian facilities which the UN says may be used to develop nuclear weapons.

JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. — As the highest-ranking member of the U.S. military to come out as gay, retired Rear Adm. Alan S. Steinman had much to celebrate when the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” became official.

To mark the occasion, Steinman invited friends to join him for a party at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Seattle – one of just a handful of such observances held on military bases Tuesday to mark the expiration of the military’s policy banning gays from serving openly.
At the conclusion of his speech, Steinman introduced Dallas Powers, his partner of 15 years. Since Powers serves in the U.S. Air Force, Steinman had been forced to keep their relationship a secret, until Tuesday. The announcement was greeted by a spirited round of applause from the group of officers and civilians in attendance, many of whom had been active in the same civil rights campaign.
Gay servicemembers around the country have been celebrating the policy’s demise at off-base parties since it officially expired at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. Since political events are restricted on bases, Steinman billed his event as a private party to win permission from base commanders at Lewis-McChord to use an officers’ club. In keeping with the venue, Steinman’s party was considerably more subdued and formal than those that took place off base.
The party attracted a small group of high-ranking, formerly closeted gay officers who, based on their rank, felt particularly vulnerable to being exposed and then discharged under don’t ask, don’t tell.
“I was an admiral, living in a fishbowl,” said Steinman who retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1997 – four years after don’t ask don’t tell was instituted. “So people who knew who I was, but I didn’t know who they were.” source – MSNBC

Military culture will undergo a quiet transformation today, as some of the estimated 49,000 gay troops on active duty will be allowed to come forward publicly when the 18-year-old law barring gays from serving openly goes away.
An exhaustive Pentagon report on the effects of lifting the ban recommended strictly prohibiting any special bathroom, berthing or billeting assignments based on sexual orientation, even on ships and in other forward-deployed settings.
The Defense Department is not planning any public events to observe the change, which Congress approved in December. But for many gay troops, the milestone will permanently alter the way they interact with their co-workers.
“It will mean when people ask me what I did this weekend, I can actually tell them,” said Marine Capt. Sarah Pezzat, who works at the Pentagon and lives with a woman whom she plans to marry in the District of Columbia in October.
Others say repeal won’t change their lives at all. The 2011 edition of the annual Military Times Poll shows that more than 61 percent of the 1,019 active-duty respondents believe repeal will have little or no effect on their day-to-day operations and missions, while just 12 percent think repeal will have a major impact.
Similarly, 57 percent said repeal will have no affect on them as individuals. The percentage of service members who support allowing gays to serve openly also reached its highest level in all services since the Military Times Poll began asking the question. source – Marine Corps Times

After years of debate and months of final preparations, the military can no longer prevent gays from serving openly in its ranks. Repeal of a 1993 law that allowed gays to serve only so long as they kept their sexual orientation private took effect Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
Is this the new face of the once-strong United States Military?
Some in Congress still oppose the change, but top Pentagon leaders have certified that it will not undermine the military’s ability to recruit or to fight wars.
The Army was distributing a business-as-usual statement Tuesday saying simply, “The law is repealed,” and reminding soldiers to treat each other fairly.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, scheduled a Pentagon news conference to field questions about the repeal. And a bipartisan group of congressional supporters of allowing openly gay service planned a news conference on Capitol Hill.
Gay advocacy groups planned a series of celebrations across the country.
Pentagon press secretary George Little said Monday that the military is adequately prepared for the end of the current policy, commonly known as “don’t ask, don’t tell,” under which gays can serve as long as they don’t openly acknowledge their sexual orientation and commanders are not allowed to ask.
“No one should be left with the impression that we are unprepared. We are prepared for repeal,” Little said.
Last week, the Pentagon said 97 percent of the military has undergone training in the new law. For weeks the military services have accepted applications from openly gay recruits, while waiting for repeal to take effect before processing the applications. source – Fox News

US Military Plane Forced Down By North Korean Electronic Attack
SEOUL – A US military reconnaissance plane came under electronic attack from North Korea and had to make an emergency landing during a major military exercise in March, a political aide said Friday.
The aide said the plane suffered disturbance to its GPS system due to jamming signals from the North’s southwestern cities of Haeju and Kaesong as it was taking part in the annual US-South Korea drill, Key Resolve.
The incident was disclosed in a report that Seoul’s defense ministry submitted to Ahn Kyu-baek of parliament’s defense committee, the aide to Ahn said.
Spokesmen for the defense ministry and US Forces Korea declined to comment.
Jamming signals — sent at intervals of five to 10 minutes on the afternoon of March 4 — forced the plane to make an emergency landing 45 minutes after it took off, the aide quoted the report as saying.
The signals also affected South Korean naval patrol boats and speedboats, as well as several civilian flights near Seoul’s Gimpo area, according to the report.
Seoul mobile users also complained of bad connections, and the military reported GPS device malfunctions as the South and the US were staging the drill, which was harshly criticized by the North.
The Communist state has about 20 types of jamming devices, mostly imported from Russia, and has been developing a new device with a range of more than 62 miles (100 kilometers) near the heavily-fortified border, the Yonhap news agency has said. source – Fox News
In The Valley Of Decision…Countdown To September 20th

In the valley of decision
At some point, the bible says, it is going to happen. It has to happen. On of the biggest prophetical themes in the bible regarding the end times, is the scenario where the enemies of Israel are working as feverishly as they can to part God’s land, and take it for themselves. The book of Joel lays it out like this:
“For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and [for] my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness [is] great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD [is] near in the valley of decision. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD [will be] the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.” Joel 3 (selected verses.)
This is exactly what is happening right now with Palestine’s bid for statehood at the UN, scheduled for September. If that happens, like many think it will, it is possible that we will see the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy. I do not say this lightly or casually. September 20th as a date is packed chock full with meaning.
What’s so special about September 20th?
There is a lot of potentially prophetic events taking place between the 20th – 29th of September. The following is from John McTernan’s INSIGHTS:

Vermont was just smashed with the worst disaster in its history. Please pray and intercede because America has kindled the anger of the LORD. The collision between a sinful “in your face” rebellious nation with the Holy God of Israel is about to take place. The warnings are over, the confrontation is now here. I know the LORD has kept 7,000 from bending their knee to baal, but for the most part the church has been anesthetized by sin and worldliness. This is a direct result of not fearing the LORD nor understanding His holiness. Individuals can be protected by the Holy Spirit, but the nation is now defenseless before the LORD in judgment.
Marines will abide by the Gay Agenda whether they like it or not. That's an order.
This coming September 20 appears ominous as the issues of America promoting sodomy and bullying Israel converge. On this date, the United States military will be officially sodomized with open homosexuality in the ranks. On this date, the Palestinians will officially appeal to the United Nations Generally Assembly for statehood. It is also the day they are going to start the third intifada. Obama has already agreed to the UN position of going back to the pre-1967 borders and dividing Jerusalem. He is in full agreement with the United Nations!
Right now, the world economy and the US stock market are reeling. The market is in convulsions since the decree to sodomize the military on July 20, effective September 20. The world is coming against Israel at the exact time the world economy is starting to unravel! The disasters are multiplying rapidly as this date approaches. The only way the judgment can be stayed is if the UN shelves the Palestinian application for statehood.

The Comet Elenin
So, you are probably wondering, what about the comet Elenin? In early September, the comet will cross earth’s orbit and be between the earth and the sun. Then on September 26, there will be an alignment with the sun, comet, and earth. This could be at the exact time the UN is debating the creation of a Palestinian state! The comet will be closet to the earth around October 15, which is during the Feast of Tabernacles.
It is very possible that three incredible events are going to occur at the same time this September.
At this time, the earth will pass directly behind the comet as it crosses earth’s orbit. This comet has a hyperbolic orbit which means it will never return. It is very possible that three incredible events are going to occur at the same time this September. The United Nations could be debating the dividing of Israel and Jerusalem in direct violation of the world of God. This will happen during the biblical Fall feasts. At this very time, a comet that seems to have a strange affect on earthquakes will be inside earth’s orbit and aligning itself with the sun and earth! It is very possible that there could be powerful disasters hitting the earth this September/October, as the world comes against Israel.
I am watching this comet very closely as the alignment between it, the earth and sun coincides with enormous earthquakes on the earth. As information develops, I will report it. If the UN General Assembly recognizes a Palestinian state, it will put these nations in direct conflict with the Holy God of Israel. In the past, this has resulted in awesome disasters.
In addition, the sodomizing of the US military will take affect on September 24, which will put it right in the middle of all these events. It is frightening to think of the curse that is now on America and our military as the Middle East is heading towards war. America has done everything to provoke the LORD to judgment as the government pressures Israel to divide Jerusalem and promotes open homosexuality amongst the military. America is looking at awesome judgment while the vast majority of pastors and Christians still seem to have no fear of the LORD judging the nation.
