Michelle Obama took to Twitter on Sunday evening to tout her husband’s first-term achievements. Accompanying a message praising all that President Barack Obama has achieved over the past four years, she implored her followers to “imagine what he can do in twice that time.”
Just imagine four more years….
Along with her message was a link to a campaign video that, in detail, highlights the president’s first-term actions. The video, entitled, “A Very Quick Look at President Obama’s First Term,” features the fast-talking, rapid speech deliverer John Moschitta, Jr. (a well-known spokesperson). Throughout the ad, Moschitta touts Obama, mentioning health care, credit card and student loan reform, the auto bailout and a plethora of other policy moves.
While another Obama term will certainly appeal to progressives who would like, more than anything, to see another four years of left-leaning policies, conservatives abhor the thought (and are conversely horrified by the prospect of four more years of left-of-center governance).
Advertising the clip, the First Lady’s Tweet reads, “If this is what the President can do in 4 years, imagine what he can do in twice the time.”

Branding her ‘disgusting’ and ‘a vacation junkie’, they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol.
The ‘top source’ told the National Enquirer: ‘It’s disgusting. Michelle is taking advantage of her privileged position while the most hardworking Americans can barely afford a week or two off work.
‘When it’s all added up, she’s spent more than $10million in taxpayers’ money on her vacations.’
The First Lady is believed to have taken 42 days of holiday in the past year, including a $375,000 break in Spain and a four-day ski trip to Vail, Colorado, where she spent $2,000 a night on a suite at the Sebastian hotel.
And the first family’s nine-day stay in Martha’s Vineyard is also proving costly, with rental of the Blue Heron Farm property alone costing an estimated $50,000 a week.

Mrs. Obama’s South Africa Trip Cost Taxpayers Over $500,000

First Lady Michelle Obama’s trip to South Africa and Botswana last week cost taxpayers well over half a million dollars, possibly in the range of $700,000 or $800,000, according to an analysis by White House Dossier.
Many of the trip’s expenses cannot be obtained with specificity, including the cost of local transportation for the first lady, Secret Service protection, the care and feeding of staffers, and pre-trip advance work done by administration officials in South Africa.
But it is possible to estimate some of these costs and put a price tag on one of the major expenses – her transportation to and from southern Africa and her trips between cities there.
While the goals of her journey – “youth leadership, education, health and wellness” in southern Africa, according to the White House – are laudable, many may question whether such an expensive outreach overseas by the president’s wife is worthwhile given the threat of the ballooning federal debt to the economy.
This is particularly true given that the trip, while featuring many official events, also included tourist components such as visits to historical landmarks and museums, a nonworking chance to meet Nelson Mandela that Mrs. Obama described as “surreal,” and a safari. Mrs. Obama also brought along her mother, her daughters and two of their cousins – the children of her brother Craig Robinson.
In a conversation last week with a South African online newspaper, U.S. Embassy Spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau made clear that the trip was partially a personal pilgrimage for the first lady.
“She’s coming on this trip to talk about women’s development and youth development, and South Africa is a leader in that, not only on the continent but globally,” said Trudeau. “A visit to South Africa is important for them as a family. She’ll be visiting many Struggle-era landmarks, including the Apartheid Museum (and) the Hector Pieterson Memorial.”
Based on the plane’s tail number and a description of it in a press pool report, it’s clear Mrs. Obama flew over and back on a C-32, a specially configured military version of the Boeing 757 that also ferries the vice president on occasion and is sometimes known as “Air Force Two.”
According to publicly available Defense Department figures, DOD charges other federal agencies $12,723 an hour to cover expenses for the use of a C-32. Based on the distance traveled and the flight speed of the plane, this adds up to about $430,000 for use of the aircraft alone.
Perhaps the best estimate of the other costs involved in such a trip comes not from official sources but from a reporter, Dana Milbank of the Washington Post. In a 2002 article, he wrote that his reporting had found that a single presidential fundraising trip within the United States by then-President George W. First Lady launches childhood obesity initiative in Atlanta church

Isn’t abortion a greater danger to children than childhood obesity?
But the killing of unborn babies won’t cross First Lady Michelle Obama’s lips when she visits Atlanta, GA this week to launch her national initiative against childhood obesity. The state ranks No. 3 in childhood obesity, behind only Mississippi and Arkansas, according to a report last year by the nonprofit Trust for America’s Health. More than 37 percent of Georgians aged 10-17 are obese, according to the group.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Obama will speak at one of Atlanta’s mega churches, Northpoint Community Church. What’s curious is why and how this selection was made. According to Pastor Andy Stanley (son of Pastor Charles Stanley, First Baptist Church of Atlanta), a friend who works at the White House called last week to ask if NCC was available to host the First Lady’s campaign launch. “My initial response was, ‘oh, good, the First Lady wants to come to church.” Yes, but she will be doing the preaching.
The Northpoint CC board agreed and arrangements were in motion including notifying church members of the White House visit. Response has been mixed for obvious political reasons. North Atlanta is predominately conservative Republican in its voting and the city of Alpharetta where NCC is located is one of the most ‘Red’.
Eating habits of children aren’t normally of great concern in church but enter the First Lady of the United States, wife of the President, and it’s a political hot potato. No one is against healthier children but using a church to springboard a government campaign appears to be disingenuous. Why not a school auditorium or youth center unless it’s for access and favor for future campaigns in 2012?
If social issues are to be tackled in church, then why not open the pulpit for some straight Scriptural dissection on abortion—an incredibly important issue surrounding the health and livelihood of children. Northpoint Community Church is not known for embracing political issues much less political figures. No matter what way you cut it, it is intimidating for the White House to call and ask for accommodations for the First Lady. It’s a one sided event unless she avails herself to questions about other social dangers to children, isn’t it?
To give the First Lady her due respect is a given. For the President and Mrs. Obama to return that respect to the Christian community is another. Last year the Obamas did not attend the National Day of Prayer always attended by past Presidents rather to remain in the White House to participate ‘privately’. Later the President gave a White House dinner to celebrate Ramadan.
Granted anywhere the First Lady goes is national news and will bring much media attention to this northern Atlanta church. One only hopes that was not a deciding factor for the board’s approval. If Mrs. Obama wanted to attend service the response would most likely have been overwhelmingly positive. In reality however, Sundays have been more so spent at golf courses than at the gathering of the Brethren.
