Jerusalem, Israel: A new Israeli spy satellite entered orbit early Thursday, the Defense Ministry said, boosting the Jewish state’s ability to monitor arch-foe Iran. The observation remote-sensing Ofek 10 satellite, launched into space on a Shavit rocket late Wednesday in cooperation with state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries, outdoes earlier models with its ability to “skip” from one target to another rather than simply “sweep” areas, ministry officials told reporters.
The satellite has already begun transmitting data and visual material. It is expected to be operational within months. It is a lightweight satellite that is expected to improve Israel’s reconnaissance abilities by providing sharp images at any time of day, and in any weather condition, said Ofer Doron of Israel Aerospace Industries.
“It has an incredible imaging capability…to give very precise photos,” said Doron.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon noted Ofek 10 would “enable the security establishment to better deal with threats near and far, at all hours of the day and in any weather.”
“We are continuing to strengthen our tremendous qualitative and technological advantage over our neighbors,” Yaalon added.
Unlike other countries that launch satellites eastward in the direction of the earth’s orbit, Israel launched the satellite westward, opposite the direction of the earth’s orbit, to prevent debris following the launch to land in enemy countries east of Israel, said Doron. The satellite completes a full orbit around the earth every 90 minutes, said Doron.
Israel, the region’s sole if undeclared nuclear power, suspects Iran is covertly pursuing a nuclear weapons capability alongside its civilian program, charges adamantly denied by Tehran.

Israel has two options. They can either a). conduct a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities and at the very least set the timeline back a few years. Or b). they can prepare to be attacked by the nuclear bomb that Obama’s stalling has allowed Iran time and space to build.
Jerusalem, Israel – A rising chorus of Israeli voices is again raising the possibility of carrying out a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities in what appears to be an attempt to draw renewed attention to Tehran’s atomic program — and Israel’s unhappiness with international negotiations with the Iranians
A front-page headline in the daily Haaretz on Thursday proclaimed that Netanyahu has ordered “to prep for strike on Iran in 2014″ and has allocated 10 billion shekels (2.87 billion dollars) for the groundwork. Earlier this week, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon hinted that Israel would have to pursue a military strike on its own, with the US having chosen the path of negotiations. And the military chief, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, said this week that Iran “is not in an area that is out of the military’s range.”
Yoel Gozansky, an Iran expert at the Institute of National Security Studies, a Tel Aviv think tank, said the comments were meant as a wake-up call to the world.
“The world was in a coma. It has awoken suddenly,” he said of the military-option talk. “Someone has an agenda to bring up this subject again, which has dropped off the agenda in recent months, especially after the deal with Iran.”

“The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer” – Barack Hussein Obama
WASHINGTON — President Obama offered the people of Iran a potential “a new beginning” Thursday, “including a better relationship with the United States and the American people, rooted in mutual interest and mutual respect.”
Obama used the occasion of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, to send a short video via Internet and international broadcasters to a country that, a top aide pointedly noted, routinely censors Internet content.
“Along with our international partners, the United States is giving Iran some relief from sanctions. Now we’re engaged in intensive negotiations in the hopes of finding a comprehensive solution that resolves the world’s concerns with the Iranian nuclear program.”
He then made clear, “As I’ve said before, I’m under no illusions. This will be difficult. But I’m committed to diplomacy because I believe there is the basis for a practical solution.”
“Iran’s highest officials, including Supreme Leader Khamenei, have said that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. So there is a chance to reach an agreement if Iran takes meaningful and verifiable steps to assure the world that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.”
“Iran would have access to peaceful nuclear energy,” Obama said. “And we will have addressed — peacefully, with diplomacy — one of the greatest challenges to international peace and security.” It was unclear how many Iranians would have access to the video or whether state television would air it. By early Thursday, it had not. source – NY Daily News
It is starting to become evident to foreign leaders across the globe that the Obama Administration is rapidly imploding with it comes to America’s foreign policy. Things have gotten so bad that many are asking what our foreign policy is, and if we even still have one..
Israeli Defense minister Moshe Yaalon has accused the United States of projecting weakness internationally and said Israel could not rely on its main ally to take the lead in confronting Iran over its nuclear program. Yaalon, whose remarks were reported in the Haaretz daily on Tuesday, caused friction with the United States only two months ago when he described Secretary of State John Kerry’s quest for Israeli-Palestinian peace as messianic and obsessive.
His latest comments, confirmed by an Israeli official who was present at lecture Yaalon delivered at Tel Aviv University on Monday, displayed deep disappointment with U.S. President Barack Obama’s handling of burning world issues. (source – Reuters).
Last week, Barack Obama and John Kerry gave Russia a Monday deadline and a “stern warning” not to make moves to re-take the Crimea. Monday came and went, and Putin took the Crimea without so much as even an acknowledgement towards Obama. It was a blistering public humiliation for America, played out in excruciating detail in the daily news cycles.
Today, his comments played as weak, meaningless, and dramatically out of touch with the situation on the ground in Crimea:
“Continued Russian military intervention in Ukraine will only deepen Russia’s diplomatic isolation and exact a greater toll on the Russian economy,” Obama said at the White House. The U.S. can “calibrate our response” based on whether Russia chooses “to escalate or to de-escalate the situation.” (source – Bloomberg)
Imagine, Obama talking about “calibrating our response” as Putin swallows the Crimea in one, big bite. Neville Chamberlain also “calibrated his response” to Hitler’s annexation of German-speaking Czechoslovakia known as the Sudetenland in the spring of 1938, and it led to Blitzkrieg bombing raids over downtown London.
Obama’s trail of blood and failure is mounting impossibly high, here are just a few of the highlights:
- Obama drew a red line with Syria, and told them that if they used chemical weapons on their own people, that there would be “repercussions”. Assad then gave the order to gas them, and thousands of Syrians lay dead in the street. Obama’s Response: Nothing
- On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, Libyan terrorists killed 4 Americans at the American Consulate in Libya. Obama’s Response: Nothing
- When Obama campaigned in 2008, one of his platform planks was that he vowed that “America will not let Iran go nuclear”. Iran did go nuclear. Obama’s Response: Nothing
America now stands at a crossroads. We have a leader who is leading us straight into a ditch. Our allies are mocking us and our enemies in no way fear us any longer. We are ripe for another terrorist attack. We are falling, we are failing. Is anyone listening?
One of Obama’s main campaign promises in 2008 was that he “will not let Iran go nuclear”. And 5 years later, he has kept that promise with the same degree of integrity and fidelity that Obamacare allows you to “keep your plan if you like it“. All politicians lie, but Obama has set a new gold standard for deception.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s official news agency is reporting that Iran and Russia have discussed a draft agreement to build two more nuclear power plants in the Islamic Republic.
The report Wednesday by IRNA said visiting Russian official Nikolai Spassky and Iranian nuclear officials reached an initial agreement about building two new nuclear power plants for Iran. Each plant would have 1,000-megawatts capacity plus water purification capabilities.
It said a formal agreement would be signed later. It did not elaborate. Iran built its first nuclear power plant in southern port of Bushehr with Russia’s help. That plant has been online since 2011 with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts.

Iran: The air force commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps was quoted by Iran’s Fars news agency as saying Tuesday that Iran’s military has its finger on the trigger to destroy Israel as soon as it receives the order to do so.
In an article headlined “IRGC Commander: Iran’s Finger on Trigger to Destroy Zionist Regime,” Fars wrote that Brigadier General Hossein Salami had declared that Iranian military commanders are prepared to attack and destroy the Zionist regime of Israel as soon as they receive such an order. “Today, we can destroy every spot which is under the Zionist regime’s control with any volume of fire power (that we want) right from here,” Fars quoted Salami as telling a conference in Tehran Tuesday on “The Islamic World’s Role in the Geometry of the World Power.”
Iranian leaders regularly issue threats against Israel and the United States, but the wording ascribed to Salami on Tuesday was particularly aggressive.
“Islam has given us this wish, capacity and power to destroy the Zionist regime so that our hands will remain on the trigger from 1,400 kilometers away for the day when such an incident (confrontation with Israel) takes place,” he was also quoted saying in the speech.
The comments came a day after Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a shipment of what he said were Iranian arms intercepted at sea last week, which he charged were intended for terror groups in Gaza. Netanyahu castigated the West for clinging to the illusion that Iran had changed, and said it remained relentlessly committed to fostering terrorism and advancing a nuclear weapons program.
Last month, Iranian state TV ran a documentary featuring a computerized video of Iran’s drones and missiles bombing Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ben Gurion Airport and the Dimona nuclear reactor in a hypothetical retaliation for an Israeli or American strike on the Islamic Republic.
Iranian drones and missiles were also shown in the film carrying out simulated strikes on the American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, downing American aircraft and striking American military targets in the Persian Gulf.
Set to dramatic music, the video showed Iranian drones and missiles carrying out strikes against Tel Aviv’s Kikar Hamedina square, the Azrieli Towers skyscrapers, and the IDF’s Kirya central command complex, as well as Ben Gurion International Airport, Haifa’s Technion, several army and air force bases, and the nuclear reactor in Dimona.
China and Russia are spending billions to augment their defenses, Iran has gone fully nuclear. What is Obama’s reaction to safeguard America’s safety? If you guessed “reduce the world’s greatest Army to Pre-WW II levels”, then YOU are the winner!
NY Times WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel plans to shrink the United States Army to its smallest force since before the World War II buildup and eliminate an entire class of Air Force attack jets in a new spending proposal that officials describe as the first Pentagon budget to aggressively push the military off the war footing adopted after the terror attacks of 2001.
The proposal, described by several Pentagon officials on the condition of anonymity in advance of its release on Monday, takes into account the fiscal reality of government austerity and the political reality of a president who pledged to end two costly and exhausting land wars. A result, the officials argue, will be a military capable of defeating any adversary, but too small for protracted foreign occupations.
The officials acknowledge that budget cuts will impose greater risk on the armed forces if they are again ordered to carry out two large-scale military actions at the same time: Success would take longer, they say, and there would be a larger number of casualties. Officials also say that a smaller military could invite adventurism by adversaries.
Mr. Hagel’s plan would most significantly reshape America’s land forces — active-duty soldiers as well as those in the National Guard and Reserve.
The Army, which took on the brunt of the fighting and the casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq, already was scheduled to drop to 490,000 troops from a post-9/11 peak of 570,000. Under Mr. Hagel’s proposals, the Army would drop over the coming years to between 440,000 and 450,000.
Under Mr. Hagel’s proposals, the entire fleet of Air Force A-10 attack aircraft would be eliminated.
That would be the smallest United States Army since 1940. For years, and especially during the Cold War, the Pentagon argued that it needed a military large enough to fight two wars simultaneously — say, in Europe and Asia. In more recent budget and strategy documents, the military has been ordered to be prepared to decisively win one conflict while holding off an adversary’s aspirations in a second until sufficient forces could be mobilized and redeployed to win there. source – NY Times
