Heavenly Irony! Atheist Group Forced To Study The Bible In Attempt To Prove Tebow Is A ‘Fake’
The best part about this story is reading that the Atheist Group that is attacking him had to study the Gospels in an attempt to try and make their case. You just can’t beat the bible!
“What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.” Philippians 1:18
DENVER (CBS Denver) – Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has seemingly made himself the poster boy for Christianity, praying on the field after a win, putting Bible verses on his eye black during games and even starring in an anti-abortion ad during the Super Bowl, but one atheist group believes he’s doing it all for personal gain.
American Atheists — a New Jersey based group that promotes the separation of church and state — tells CBS Denver that the only reason Tebow is popular is because he constantly injects his Christianity among the public.
Silverman says if Tebow is truly a Christian, he would pray in private, not public. “It is not surprising Tebow ignores Matthew 6:5 in which Jesus says, ‘When you pray, do not pray like the hypocrites in the street,’” Silverman says. “They pray to be seen praying. Pray in the closet.”
“When we watch a sporting event, we are all united for our team,” says David Silverman, president of American Atheists. “Tebow takes religion and injects it into the mix and divides the fan base.”
Silverman states that Tebow’s repeated references to God into his post-game comments after a win is “bad for football.
“(Religion) injects the divisive force into football,” Silverman says. “Why in the world are we talking about religion when we are talking about football?”
Tebow’s popularity rose during the season with his improbable comebacks, the latest coming in a thrilling 29-23 overtime playoff win against the Pittsburgh Steelers after an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas.
The fascination over Tebow officially reached national heights when people across the U.S. started “Tebowing,” mimicking Tebow’s sideline prayers.
Silverman believes that Tebow is “full of crap” when he publically displays his Christianity on the football field and said his prayers are for publicity.
“It’s not that Tebow prays, it’s that he waits for the cameras to be on him to do it,” Silverman says. “He’s totally faking.”
As some criticize Tebow for his overt Christianity, the Christian Coalition believes the Broncos quarterback is being mocked for his religious stance.
“I think that atheists just need to get over it,” Michele Combs, spokeswoman for the Christian Coalition, tells CBS Denver. “He’s a Christian giving his ability to God. What’s wrong with that?”
Combs goes on to say that she believes people embrace his show of faith.
“I think more positive has come from this,” she says. “Young athletes look up to him.” source – CBS

This is really good news, that Tebow is not only winning games but giving God the glory even when he loses. He is much more open about his Christianity than Montana, Bill Walsh or Mike Holmgren. I didn’t even know they were Christian until they were about to retire or afterwards. The same with Walter Payton and Mike Singletary, but I saw the ESPN interview where Payton thanked the Lord Jesus Christ for all of success and helping him with his battle with cancer. The 49′s seem to be a pretty Christian team, Montana, Walsh and Singletary all played or coached for them and DeBartolo is a Christian and is the owner. I have to check to see if he still is. Then we had Tom Landry of the Cowboys. I just wish more of them would speak out for Jesus Christ more. It is kind of disappointed to find out they were Christian after they retire and you can’t watch them play or coach anymore.
in Christ,
Dave
p.s. did you do something different for this blog entry? It worked right when I clicked on it. Good work and God bless you!

I don’t see why so many are up in arms about this….many football players throughout history have given God glory in their games. Now suddenly it’s a problem? I think those opposing Christianity fear it and that’s why they try to snuff it out. Thank you Tim for bringing the glory of God so publicly and having NO FEAR! We could all learn something from Tim’s courage. As the Nike logo states: JUST DO IT!

It’s seems so funny when American Atheists use words(against Christians) from a Book they believe is a fairy tale and a God who does not exist????
Where will they go next????

Ephesians 5:20 “Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
The Bible is pretty clear that we are to give thanks in all things and that is precisely what Tebow is doing. There is nothing wrong with giving God all the glory!

American Atheist, the voice of a few, wanting to persuade the faith of millions, seems like a uphill battle to me. So we are to pray in the closet, maybe you need to practice what you preach. GOD bless you.

The bottom line is, Yeshua was not telling us we should never pray in public; He was attempting to tell people to not be like the hypocrites who desire to be heard in order to show how pious or religious they are!
1 Thessalonians 5:17 tell…s us to “pray without ceasing.” If we are to pray continually this means we should pray anytime, including in public without any fear of what others think or do. The point is, YHWH is always watching, and He’s the only one whose opinion matters.
Divine communication is not some “super spiritual” experience as postured by some, but about being humble and obedient: “For the worship that is pure and set apart before Elohim the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction; and: that one keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27).
Prayer is a dialogue with Heaven, not a monologue. Yeshua’s teaching stands as the demarcation between relationship with YHWH rather than a religion about Him. Prayer is meant to establish and maintain an intimate relationship, and accountability between each individual and YHWH.
We should keep private our personal dialogues with God. But praying without ceasing means also outloud with or for others. The idea is not to be “flashy” about it in order to cause others to think we have some special insights into God and the Bible that others don’t.

Yep, that’s true Karen. It is not the act (form) of praying in public but the why (substance) behind it. Evangelists have always prayed in public, street ministers, outreach groups but it was to give God the glory as opposed to themselves.
I like and appreciate Tebow for doing that but I give God the glory for His sovereignty and even if I don’t, at least I pause and think of the things that I could be thank God for in my life.

“Silverman believes that Tebow is ‘full of crap’….” It takes great restraint not to turn that around and state what Mr. Silverman is full of. Let the scriptures do the talking:
Matthew 10:32 (New Living Translation)
“”Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”
Enough said.

I think it’s funny how the atheist comes against tebow for “mixing” his religion with sports. Does an atheist only not believe in God at home? Doesn’t he deny God everywhere he goes? Is he then not mixing his “religion” or perhaps stance on religion everywhere he goes? and as for the “tebow waiting for the cameras to be on him to pray”…this guy is the quarter back…over half the game is on the quarter back….oh wait…they’re only playing when the camera is on them…I think there out for selfish gain. Give me a break. Or rather give Tebow a break. One last thing, even if Tebow were out for selfish gain, that doesn’t prove he’s a fake, just proves he’s human.

Mr. Silverman: it isn’t religion. It’s public expression of his faith.

Well, here is the problem with Atheist the minute you talk about God they mention the word religion. Tebow is not a religious man he is a Christian and these are two different things all together. Being a Christian is believing that Christ Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Being religious is being an Atheist. It has nothing to do with God. When you look at the history of the bible and Gods word it actually takes more faith not to believe than it does to believe so Atheist are very faithful in their religious beliefs.

Leave Tim Tebow alone, He is truly Christian and my brother in Christ. God is with him all the way because he depend on God’s plan. I am rooting for Tim, alot of people who are lost souls, awlays get angry and blah blah blah about our faith or christians ( saved group). They pick on tim tebow means they reject Jesus.
Pray for their own lost souls amen

Why are we talking about religion when we talk about football? WE aren’t YOU are. If it’s so fake and so unreal, then why are the athiest so scared. EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tounge shall confess. So many people not connected are scared of a ghost…..think about that for a minute.

Go Tim !!!!
Oh, that we all would be so open in our praise to God. The very earth you live on, Mr. Athiest, and the air you breath, the water you drink, the heat, the cool of winter, and I could go on and on. Everything you do every minute of the day is a gift from God.
And yes , YOUR time will come. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9 &10. Turn or Burn—-You decide.
