Triumphant Republicans Have An Obamacare Promise To Keep
Last night’s landslide victory at the polls changed all that, and the question now remains will the Republicans fulfill their promise to get rid of Obamacare?
The Republican’s feet need to be held to the fire to fulfill their main promise to the America people
Obamacare was signed into law in March of 2010, and every day since then the Republican rallying cry has been to repeal it. But without having control of the Senate and Congress, such a repeal remained rhetoric. Last night’s landslide victory at the polls changed all that, and the question now remains will the Republicans fulfill their promise to get rid of Obamacare?
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) tells The Post that a GOP-dominated Senate should “pursue every means possible to repeal Obamacare.” Cruz also said the first order of business should be a series of hearings on President Obama, “looking at the abuse of power, the executive abuse, the regulatory abuse, the lawlessness that sadly has pervaded this administration.”
The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.
Sen. Rand Paul said “I’m not saying we don’t have a vote on repealing Obamacare; we should have a vote. I’m not sure how far that goes but we should have a vote on it. But I also want to pass some stuff.”
The Huffington Post today notes that another option fully on the table would be to attack key elements of Obamacare without necessarily repealing the whole package. But no matter how you look at it, Republicans have a huge Obamacare promised to keep and how they handle it will have a direct impact on how well they do in 2016.
Here are 4 ways that Democrats note Republicans could make major changes in Obamacare:
Individual Mandate
The requirement that nearly all Americans obtain some form of health coverage or face a tax penalty is the granddaddy of them all. Sure, this idea originated with the conservative Heritage Foundation back in the ’90s, but it’s the least popular part of Obamacare and is an affront to liberty in the eyes of tea party types. It also was the subject of a lawsuit that went all the way to the Supreme Court, which upheld it. Undoing the mandate would devastate the rest of the law because it would take away a big incentive for healthy people to buy insurance, leaving the companies with more costly customers and forcing them to jack up prices to unaffordable levels.
Employer Mandate
The Affordable Care Act requires all companies with at least 50 employees to offer health benefits to everyone who works at least 30 hours a week. Businesses hate it. Republicans hate it. Even some leading liberal advocates for Obamacare wouldn’t mind seeing it go. Obama himself delayed full implementation of this provision from 2014 to 2016, and scraping it would have a negligible effect on how many Americans have health insurance.
Medical Device Tax
Somehow, a 2.3 percent sales tax on medical devices like pacemakers became a cause célèbre among Republicans — and Democrats from states like Minnesota that are home to big device manufacturers. Getting rid of the tax has almost happened a few times, and 32 Democratic Senators joined all Republicans voting in favor of repealing it in March 2013. Eliminating the device tax wouldn’t change any of the major parts of Obamacare, either.
Independent Payment Advisory Board
One of the many things falsely dubbed a death panel by Republicans, the so-called IPAB was supposed to be a key tool to reduce health care costs. The 15-member, presidentially appointed and Senate-confirmed panel is tasked with issuing recommendations to cut Medicare fees to medical providers to keep the program’s spending in check. If Congress doesn’t override those plans with cuts of its own, IPAB’s become law. To Republicans, it’s tyranny. To Obamacare, so far it’s been pointless. Obama never named anyone to the board, and Medicare spending has been so low lately, they wouldn’t have had anything to do anyway.
“Insurer Bailout”
The Affordable Care Act includes provisions designed to protect health insurance companies that get unlucky and sign up too many expensive, sick customers. Wonks call these policies the “three Rs” — reinsurance, risk corridors and risk adjustment — but Republicans call them an insurer bailout, because of course they do. (President George W. Bush had no such qualms about these things when he made them part of his Medicare prescription drug law in 2003). Doing away with this protection could destabilize Obamacare’s health insurance exchanges by forcing insurers to eat big losses, and maybe scaring them away entirely.

Chaplain Segunda wrote to tell us two things the other day. The first was that she was very grateful to have received the 1,400 Bibles we sent to the Karnes County Detention Center last week, the second thing she wrote to tell us was that 53 people had prayed to get saved, and they were overjoyed to receive those Bibles from us. An equal amount of Bibles went out to the South Texas Immigration Detention Center, and 750 King James Bibles were sent to the Floyd County Jail in Georgia.

I got a letter yesterday Mark & Margie Beamer who attend the Wooster Bible Church in Ohio, they were writing to send a donation for Bibles Behind Bars and to tell us that the Bibles we sent to that church last year for their jail ministry at the Richland County Jail are still being given out, and that they were excited to help give them out. What a blessing that is for the giver and the receiver!

While it may sound like an episode of Black Mirror, Americans can now purchase a flamethrower-wielding robot dog online from Throwflame called Thermonator.
Have you ever spent a hot, summer afternoon at a water park? I have, and it’s one of my favorite things to do. There is this curious moment that takes place after you enter into the water, right before the thundering force of the jets carry you forward. In that brief, little space, you are calm and peaceful, luxuriously basking in the cool water. Then you reach the main current and woosh!! you go at what feels like a million miles per hour. This is where we are right now with the incoming tide of AI and robot technology, in that brief little moment before the avalanche sweeps us inexorably forward into only God knows what’s coming next.

FROM THE DAILY MAIL UK: Ohio-based Throwflame opened sales for its ‘Thermonator’ Tuesday, selling its 37-pound quadruped machine for $9,420 that is legal in all US states except Maryland. A demonstration video shows a Thermonator creeping and jumping through a forest before torching its surroundings with a 30-foot jet of fire spewing from a flame thrower on its back. Throwflame, based in Cleveland, claims to be the oldest flamethrower manufacturer in the US.
The company released the first-ever full-sized, commercially available flamethrower in 2015, which shoots flames up to 50 feet. ‘This unregulated flamethrower sparked a significant media response relating to legality,’ Throwflame shared on its website. ‘However, flamethrowers remain federally unregulated. This means anyone can buy one without background checks or a waiting period.’
Thermonator appears to be designed like most quadruped robots but has one of Throwflame’s devices attached to its back. The robot dog boasts a variety of cameras and sensors, allowing it to autonomously move throughout its surroundings and find targets to set ablaze. The machine is remotely operated – the demonstration video shows a handler controlling it with a smartphone.
Social media users have weighed in on the machine, comparing it to an episode in the fourth season of Black Mirror titled ‘Metalhead.’
The episode explores what could happen if these machines turned on us, revealing the terrifying quest for survival in a world where robo-dogs can outrun and outsmart humans. X user Rob Sheepe posted: ‘Some real-life Black Mirror ‘Metalhead’ terror right here. How is this legal?’
However, Maryland is the only US state that bans flamethrowers – California requires a permit to own one. Possessing or using a flamethrower in Maryland is punishable by a $250,000 fine and up to 25 years imprisonment. In 2015, Congress introduced a bill that would treat flamethrowers like machine guns, but was stalled and later dismissed. READ MORE

The Biden White House is considering declaring a ‘national climate emergency’ to block American energy development while appeasing its extremist environmentalist donor base.
Oh, how I wish this was coming to you today from The Babylon Bee, but sadly it is actual news that is actually happening in Washington right now. Pretend president Joe Biden is being told by third term president Barack Obama that he needs to declare a ‘national climate emergency’, and Biden is actively and seriously considering doing it. Should he declare a national climate emergency, Biden would be granted powers similar to the pandemic where the government suspended the Constitution for ‘the greater good’. Sounds more like the Greater Reich to me.

In Biden’s head, it’s also not the first time he’s declared a climate emergency.
In an interview last year with the Weather Channel, Biden falsely said that he’d “already done that” when asked whether he intends to declare a climate emergency. The inaccuracy was so blatant that his statement was fact-checked as false by CNN, which is not exactly known as a right-leaning news source.
