Much of New York was plunged into darkness Monday by a superstorm that overflowed the city’s historic waterfront, flooded the financial district and subway tunnels and cut power to nearly a million people.

Rising water from the Hudson River overtakes a bank drive-through as Superstorm Sandy pushed ashore.

The city had shut its mass transit system, schools, the stock exchange and Broadway and ordered hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to leave home to get out of the way of the superstorm Sandy as it zeroed in on the nation’s largest city.

Residents spent much of the day trying to salvage normal routines, jogging and snapping pictures of the water while officials warned the worst of the storm had not hit.

By evening, a record 13-foot storm surge was threatening Manhattan’s southern tip, utilities darkened parts of downtown Manhattan on purpose to avoid storm damage and water started lapping over the seawall in Battery Park City, flooded rail yards and parts of the financial district.

Hurricane Idalia Might Possibly Be The Biggest Storm To Ever Hit The ‘Big Bend’ Region Of Florida’s Gulf Coast As Rain Has Already Begun To Fall

Hurricane Idalia’s forecast landfall strength and storm surge levels could reach once-in-a-lifetime levels along parts of Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Just a couple of days ago, no one in Florida was talking about any major storm at all, now Hurricane Idalia may just be set to inflict damage on the Gulf Coast of Florida the likes of which that region has never seen. The nation watched in horror last year when Hurricane Ian made landfall in southwest Florida as a Category 4, resulting in nearly $50 billion dollars in damage.

“I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” Psalm 55:8 (KJB)

When Idalia hits land, she will be cranking out winds just under 130 MPH, with ocean swells possibly anywhere from 10-15ft in the Big Bend region. If that wasn’t enough, roaming bands of tornadoes will also be possible. Pray for the people on the west coast of Florida, they are going to take a direct hit. Pray for us here in Saint Augustine as well, we will be experiencing heavy rains and winds of up to 60 MPH. Hurricane Idalia is going to make landfall early morning on Wednesday, so put your preparedness plan into place before you go to bed tonight.

Hurricane Idalia to unleash rain and strong winds on Florida

FROM CNN: Idalia is forecast to make landfall as a major hurricane (Category 3 or stronger), bringing a potential storm surge of 10 to 15 feet to the Big Bend area and 4 to 7 feet to the Tampa Bay area. Anything greater than 4 feet of storm surge inundation in the Tampa Bay area would set a new record there. Six feet of surge inundation would set a record in Cedar Key on the southern side of the Big Bend.

While other storms, like Hurricane Ian, have produced higher storm surge, these levels would be unprecedented for this part of the Florida Gulf Coast.

The storm’s strength would also be a rare event for the Big Bend.

“This has the makings of an unprecedented event for this part of the state,” the National Weather Service in Tallahassee said. “To put this system into the historical context, there are NO major hurricanes in the historical dataset going back to 1851 that have tracked into Apalachee Bay. None. Don’t mess around with this one.”

Idalia may track into the Apalachee Bay — an inlet that’s part of Florida’s broader Big Bend — as a Category 3 storm, becoming the first to do so.

Only two major hurricanes on record have made landfall within 60 miles of Cedar Key: 1950’s Hurricane Easy and an unnamed hurricane in 1896, according to data from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

“A major hurricane for any location is in itself a rare event,” NHC deputy director Jamie Rhome told CNN. “So for any location, a major hurricane in itself is a rare event, which for most individuals, probably only occurs once-in-a-lifetime.” READ MORE

Hurricane warning in effect as AccuWeather warns Idalia will undergo explosive strengthening ahead of Florida landfall

Right now, our beautiful state Florida is facing the fallout from not one, but two late-summer hurricanes, Idalia and Franklin. Hurricane Idalia will hit just above Tampa and then cross over the top of the state to hit Georgia. Franklin on the east is not expected to make landfall, but the entire east coast of the Sunshine State is facing some very serious swells.

Last October, NTEB was contacted by a number of individuals requesting aid to help the victims of Hurricane Ian. We gave thousands of dollars to local churches that helped to fund the purchase of bottles of water, food and clothing for the people impacted by Ian. We also donated 100 King James Bibles and 5,000 gospel tracts to Bro. Robert Day who distributed them along with his team from Calvary Chapel. As Florida now prepares for the impact of two hurricanes, NTEB stands ready to help provide that same level of help once again thanks to your generous support of this ministry. TO THE FIGHT!!!

Tropical Storm Idalia is expected to intensify into a major hurricane before it makes landfall along the west coast of Florida

FROM ACCUWEATHER: Floridians are bracing for a major hurricane strike on Wednesday as Tropical Storm Idalia has begun to strengthen while churning west of Cuba. AccuWeather hurricane experts say the storm will rapidly intensify into a powerful major hurricane on Tuesday over the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in the state.

An ‘extreme’ risk for impacts is now in place for a portion of the Sunshine State, centered around the Big Bend region bridging the Gulf coasts of the panhandle and peninsula. This area will be most at risk for life-threatening storm surge flooding, damaging winds and torrential rain as Idalia approaches as a hurricane on Wednesday morning.

A hurricane warning is in effect for the west coast of Florida, extending from the eastern part of the Panhandle, encompassing Tampa Bay and points south of there. Tropical storm watches and warnings are also out for other regions of Florida’s Gulf Coast, including the Florida Keys. READ MORE

Idalia strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane early Tuesday but is expected to intensify into an “extremely dangerous major hurricane” before making landfall, according to the National Hurricane Center. Idalia is expected to make landfall along the west coast or Big Bend region of Florida on Wednesday.

In A Nod To The Apocalypse, People In Hawaii Are Hurling Themselves Into The Ocean To Escape The Raging Wildfire Flames On The Island Of Maui

SHARE NOW THE END BEGINS:

The wildfires raging out of control in Maui are so catastrophic, some residents are hurling themselves into the ocean to escape the apocalyptic flames.

The wildfires that have engulfed the island of Maui in Hawaii right now are so intense that people are running into the ocean and casting themselves in, that’s how bad it is. That imagery is very much like how things will be during the great Tribulation, when God’s physical judgement begins falling from the sky. What’s happening in Maui is not the actual apocalypse, but pray for the Hawaiian people and this terrible situation.

“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:” Revelation 6:15,16 (KJB)

Eyewitnesses described an apocalyptic scene Tuesday in Lahaina town, where residents were forced to jump into the harbor waters to avoid fast-moving flames from a massive brush fire that’s destroyed much of the historic area — and continues to burn. The vast majority of wildfires are caused by human interaction, but you can fully expect to see this as a rolling advertisement for climate change. We will keep you updates as this breaking news story continues to unfold.

‘It’s apocalyptic’: People jump into the ocean to flee Maui wildfires as patients overwhelm hospitals and 911 gets cut off

FROM CNN: Even emergency crews might not be able to help as the infernos – fueled in part by Hurricane Dora churning some 800 miles away – have cut off 911 services and communications in Maui.

“911 is down. Cell service is down. Phone service is down” Hawaii Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke told CNN on Wednesday morning.

“Our hospital system on Maui, they are overburdened with burn patients, people suffering from inhalation,” she said. “The reality is that we need to fly people out of Maui to give them burn support because Maui hospital cannot do extensive burn treatment.”

The disaster also has wiped out power to about 14,000 homes and businesses in Maui, according to PowerOutage.us. Clint Hansen took drone video Tuesday night that showed wildfires spreading just north of Kihei. “Lahaina has been devastated,” Hansen told CNN.

“People jumping in the ocean to escape the flames, being rescued by the Coast Guard. All boat owners are being asked to rescue people. Its apocalyptic.”

A dozen people were rescued near Lahaina after “entering the ocean due to smoke and fire conditions,” the Coast Guard and county officials said. “Individuals were transported by the Coast Guard to safe areas,” Maui County officials said.

And it’s not clear where the disaster will head next.

Maui fire officials warned that erratic wind, challenging terrain, steep slopes and dropping humidity, plus the direction and the location of the fire conditions make it difficult to predict path and speed of a wildfire, according to Maui County officials.

“The fire can be a mile or more from your house, but in a minute or two, it can be at your house,” Maui County Fire Assistant Chief Jeff Giesea said. “Burning airborne materials can light fires a great distance away from the main body of fire.” READ MORE

People jumped into the water Tuesday in the Hawaiian town of Lahaina on Maui to escape flames and smoke from a wildfire. Another wildfire, in central Texas just north of Austin, destroyed an apartment building Tuesday night.
