Ashamed Of The Name – Campus Crusade For Christ Changes Name, Drops ‘Christ’

The 60-year-old evangelical ministry announced its new name at a staff conference in Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday (July 19), saying the old name had become problematic. ...
"Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world." 1 John 4

Ashamed of The Name of Jesus

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first…” 2 Thessalonians 2:3

It has been well said that it is not how strong you run when you start, it’s how finish. Billy Graham started like a house on fire when he hit the scene in 1947, yet by 1978 he was doubting the existience of Hell and thinking that lost people who don’t know Jesus could still go to Heaven. Now we have the latest victim in the great coming apostasty, Bill Bright’s Campus Crusade for Christ. Only that’s not their name anymore.

So what did they change it to?

They now wish to be known as Cru. Really? When they called themselves Campus Crusade For Christ, you knew exactly what their mission was, where it’s focus was, and in Whose Name they operated. Now with ‘Cru’, a meaningless, nonsensical babble of a name, it could be anything. And maybe in our age of the Laodicean church, that’s the point.

When you read the story below, you will see that they go through a huge song and dance of how its really the word “crusade” they wanted to get rid of . Really? If thats true, why did the name of Christ get tossed in the garbage, too?  Ho, ho, ho…go kid your grandma.

“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38

The 60-year-old evangelical ministry announced its new name at a staff conference in Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday (July 19), saying the old name had become problematic.

“We’ve been having issues with two words in the name — campus and crusade,” said Steve Sellers, a vice president who oversees the ministry’s U.S. operations, in an interview.

Though the Orlando, Fla.-based organization began on campuses in 1951, it has expanded to more than two dozen ministries focused on topics such as families, athletes, the military and inner cities.

When Campus Crusade was founded by the late Bill Bright and his wife Vonette, the word “crusade” typically referred to the large, stadium events held by evangelists like Billy Graham.

“In today’s culture it carries more weight in terms of its historic meaning,” Sellers said, with people thinking “more to the days of the Crusaders and dealing with the Middle East as opposed to a positive use of the word.”

Cru isn’t the only religious organization that has moved away from “crusade.” Wheaton College, Graham’s alma mater in Illinois, changed its mascot from Crusaders to Thunder in 2000. Graham’s son Franklin leads “festivals” instead of crusades, and his grandson Will holds “celebrations.”

Most recently, Crusader Lutheran Church in Rockville, Md., changed its name to Living Faith Lutheran Church out of concern that the old name had “militaristic” and “non-Christian” overtones. Sellers said the Crusade-to-Cru change is part of that trend. “We don’t want the words that we use to get in the way of the message that we have,” he said.

Hmmm, they don’t want the “words that we use to get in the way of the message that we have”, eh? Well, now that you have dropped the Name of Jesus, you no longer have a message, a ministry, or a reason for being.

Another one bites the dust….
